  1. I had a leak in a similar place in my 2008 Rx400h---the radiators and spigot pipes for the hoses are made of plastic. After many years and miles the plastic become brittle and hardened and the natural slight rocking of the engine on its mounts eventually causes a leak where the spigot pipes enter there radiator core and flex with the slight engine movement.. It's definitely a radiator out job and you may be able to plastic weld around the spigot pipe onto the radiator. My Lexus specialist advised me that  would only be a relatively short term solution and it would be best to fit a new radiator. No problems since then. I am afraid that I have no idea why it should affect the hybrid system.

  2. There must be some parasitic drain on your Battery for it to discharge so much.

I have a 2007 Rx400h and it was still using the original factory fitted 12 volt Battery until earlier this year when I had to replace it after 15 years of usage.

Even before replacement I could quite happily leave it for four weeks whilst we were on holiday and it would start just fine upon our return.

  3. Had a similar situation some years ago when my wife BMW 3 series estate was written off by a woman pulling out of their driveway without looking. The police were called as both drivers were admitted to hospital---thankfully with only very minor injuries. Their subsequent reportI apportioned the whole of the blame to the other driver.

I then informed her insurance company that I wasn't interested in their money---I merely wanted a vehicle of similar specification, age and mileage. As the car was a fairly unique specification that was going to be difficult. I accompanied my response with letter from my BMW dealer explaining how difficult it would be to source a similar vehicle and that in his opinion it would cost at least $X thousand pounds. Other insurance company paid out a very generous amount in full within a week without any further quibbles.

It might be worth approaching your Lexus dealer to ask if they would provide a similar letter saying, in their opinion, how much it would cost to replace your written off car.

  4. I had a similar problem on my 15 year old Rx400h---purchased a can of the strangely named Gummi-pflege from amazonhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Liqui-Moly-7182-Rubber-Care-75-ml/dp/B00CSYM1K8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=gummi-pflege&qid=1693569258&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

The rubber seals around the rear hatch seemed a bit "sticky"--not surprising after such a long time.

Treated the seals and hey presto, the rear hatch was working smoothly again. I think that perhaps the "stickiness" of the seals was preventing the motor from lifting the hatch.

  5. A quick heads up for anyone looking to buy some roof bars. From next Thursday the 6th May Lidl will have a set of roof bars available for £29.99. These are not some Chinese junk but are made by Menabo, a well respected Italian manufacturer established 50 years ago. I purchased a set when Lidl last had them on offer and am very pleased with them. Lidl will also have a pair of quick release ratchet straps on offer for £2.99.

  6. Bought one from Amazon a couple of years ago. Use it on my BMW 6 series with AGM Battery as well as my Rx400h. Proved to be vey reliable and I like the fact that you can change from ordinary lead acid to AGM and from Motor Bikes to cars as well as using a "recondition" mode. A short review from Honest John here https://kit.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/review-ctek-battery-charger-mxs-50/#:~:text=It's sturdy and it works,a quick worker as well.

  7. I am fortunate that I have a very well respected and reviewed Lexus & Toyota specialist about six miles away. My Rx400h is now nearly thirteen years old and i took the car out of the main dealer network around five years ago. My Lexus specailist has performed superbly during that time.  OK--I don't get a loan car, Nespresso coffee and and attractive young lady on reception in a smart showroom. But I do pay a fraction of main dealer prices. If anyone is interested the outfit i use is http://www.tech-one.co.uk/  based in Sidcup.

No connections other than a very satisfied customer

  8. Another example of insurance "madness"  i have been a very happy customer of Direct Line for many years----2008 Lexus Rx400h, drivers aged 74 and 76, garaged, semi-rural area, £300 total excess, protected NCB and 8 years NCB.

Last year I paid £308.00 and the renewal has just come in at £694.40 !!!!! A phone call to Direct Line elicited the response "I'm sorry but that's the best we can do"

Went on line to Direct Line and got a quote as if I was a new customer----£548.80

Shopped around and ended up with John Lewis Insurance for £384.62 with exactly the same provisions as my previous insurance.
