I recently damaged my Lexus IS200 Sport 2000 X reg, engine management light came on then the tracking light flashing, slowed the car but motorway driving so unfortunately travelled a good 10 minutes this way the engine became noisy and finally found lay-by to pull over, as I pulled over into the lay-by the deceleration caused the lights to come up, not normal so I did try to turn engine over but wouldn't turn over.
Breakdown came out and diagnosed coolant leak and lack of compression indicated head gasket gone, however couldn't see any obvious sign of oil/water mix (now this was in the dark) towed to local garage.
This is the unfortunate string of events has began to occur, by no means being a mechanic I am relying on the garage for advice, the garage fear that I have damaged the bottom end (although other mechanics are saying if there is oil bottom end damage not likely to occur) there is still oil! After a quote of 1300 without sourcing a cylinder head considered replacement car or fix, chosen fix. So I began by sourcing cylinder head, this then transpired through various conversations into me purchasing a replacement engine. The garage still to date haven't done anymore to check into the state of my engine, but have removed the engine ready for replacement.
The replacement engine- long story short, jet washed, rusty and garage not happy to fit. Although replacement has been offered; impression that original supplied the best they had I have little faith in supplier (yeah I didn't really do my homework on them) and have stated on phone and e-mail that I want refund.
This is the situation to date and I am now looking for your experience to help guide me with my decision.
