  1. Apologies for the broken description as I hit return thinking it would go to the next line but it posted my unfinished question. So it is definately the cable as my mechanic was under the car prodding around and the cable has stretched. I bought a second hand cable and the mechanic tried to fit it but said that it runs under the hybrid connections in the engine bay and for obvious safety reasons was not able to replace it. Has anybody replaced the gear selector cable and what was the procedure? Any advice or solutions appreciated.
  2. I would be grateful for any information regarding the replacement of the gear selector cable. My 2005 RX400h with 164k miles has started to be difficult to select gears . It's not hte CVT
  3. What made you buy new driveshafts? Reluctor rings are about £10 each, not sure how much driveshafts are but I'm thinking expensive.
  4. I already have new rear reluctor rings which will be installed when the bearings are done. I was going to do just 1 job at a time i.e. new discs and pads first, but got some good deals on all the parts I purchased and the mechanic can do them all in one shot. Hopefully that will fix the annoying judder/pulsating problem. By comparison I had new discs and pads fitted to my RX last year which has over twice the mileage (164k), never had a problem with judder or ABS and presumably still on its original sensors and bearings.
  5. Yes, used to happen at all speeds until I removed the spacers, now it only happens when slowing down from 30mph.
  6. So, after driving back to France and getting acquainted with the SC here are some views, opinions, things to fix and general questions. Firstly I'm still working on the brake judder//pulsating problem I first encountered. After removing the 20mm wheel spacers and getting the wheels balanced and brakes inspected, the problem is better but not fixed as it still vibrates at lower speeds and not at all speeds. I have bought new discs, pads, ABS sensors and wheel bearings for each corner and am having them fit next week, not a small job and something I am unable to do myself so have entrusted my local mechanic to tackle (anybody know the torque spec, for the hub nut, 199NM I've heard). After a good clean and removing the boot trim I found water in the left and right lower areas near the rear wheel arches, given that the car had been stood under trees for the Winter and had been pressure washed to within an inch of it's life before the sale I'm of the opinion that it's not a leak per se. I have cleaned and treated the seals with Shin-Etsu, and completely dried the area and everything looks good so far. Other observations – after a quick burst on the non UK motorway at approx. 100 mph, I felt the back end was not very well planted when negotiating a sweeping curve, you know the scene, you're giving it some legs on a good piece of motorway that has a long radius curve and the back end starts to feel loose, not dangerous but also not confident. The car has as new tyres and recent new rear shocks so was wondering if this is it's normal comfy GT suspension setup. On a positive note I really enjoy driving the SC, it's comfy, quiet and has a nice turn of speed especially in 3rd and 4th, looking forward to cruising with the top down in Summer. All advice/opinions welcome as it's a keeper and just trying to make it as good as it can be without breaking the bank.
  7. Thanks. The drive back for me and the car was relaxing, but the weather was terrible and my wife and daughter were following in the RX400h (she's not comfortable driving on UK's busy roads for long distances) so they were both slightly traumatised by the journey but me and the SC got on great 😃 The colour is Mica Grey metallic which was a new colour introduced in 2006.
  8. Just had the CT (MOT) done this morning, passed with flying colours and doesn't need doing again for 2 years. Sorted out the French Insurance, paid the import taxes, got the CT now just the grey card to do and get the French number plates. Agree that France is a lovely country its just the French that's a problem, as mentioned getting anything done for a reasonable price is nigh on impossible and the paperwork is relentless. I left the UK in 2004 and only go back to visit family (and pick up cars, buy cheddar cheese and HP sauce, it's a Lancashire thing), currently residing in Brittany.
  9. Yes. Knocked a few hundred off the asking price because of the brakes and got him to fill it up with 98.
  10. Managed to scratch that itch. I previously posted for opinions on a Purple model but pulled the plug on that one. So instead I got this one (hopefully managed to upload a pic or 2) Just given it a good clean after driving it back to France, it appears to be a good solid example with 16 service stamps ( 13 Lexus main dealer + 3 independents). A couple of things need attention:- Brake judder – I've got new ABS sensors and it's in the garage on Thursday to have the brakes cleaned and inspected, it had new discs and pads 2½ years ago but if they have uneven pad wear or disc warp then they'll get replaced. Wheels to be balanced. Door mirror passenger side works a bit but not fully, won't retract fully or tilt when reversing and only moves in/out not up and down. Any pointers would be appreciated. Everything else works fine, a real comfy quiet cruiser, 6 speed auto is smooth as butter and picks it feet up nicely in sports mode.
  11. Thanks for the comments. For me personally, somebody (a car enthusiast) who hasn't changed the oil in their 3.5yr ownership, makes me think what else have they not bothered doing. The colour combo was the hook but the lack of clarity in what he had and had not done, plus the inability to produce any receipts/invoices other than a car battery in 2021 was sufficient to pull the plug.
  12. Quick update. After many emails I wasn't happy with the limited info I was getting back. The deal breaker for me was when I asked about its last oil & filter change, the reply was he hasn't done one during 3.5yrs ownership as it was done when he bought it and has only covered 4000 miles. That for me is unacceptable regardless of the miles covered, happy to hear Opinions given that was the thread title.
  13. Affirmative Spock, nice Cobra.
  14. The vehicle check states that it is not an import. Also having been in contact with the seller he informed me that he has imported parts from Japan and Germany. So I think he has just put the badge on for some individuality.
  15. The vehicle has been returned to it's original plate - MV06 GHN, 5 owners.
