  1. Hi Ian, Thanks for your reply not sure where in or around Stafford where I live is there anyone who does this Terraclean had a look on You Tube looks interesting in the mean time I took my car to DJ Auto's in Stoke who put it on his diagnosis machine and he informs me that my cats are knackered booked in for tomorrow 23/01/2015 at a cost of £1078 inc vat for 2 genuine cats fitted sounds a bit better than his original off the top of his head quote of £3000 phew! Cheers Brian
  2. Hi all. My pride and joy has developed a fault " engine management light/abs light/traction light all amber in colour so I asked the question on here a bit ago and members answers ranged from oxygen sensor to air leek or blocked cats. Anyway took it to my local "very good" auto electrician in Stoke on Trent DJ Auto's who put it on diagnosis and told me that p0420 left bank cat was knackered and the right bank cat was on it's way out as well, he also tells me that "non genuine" cats don't have enough cells inside the cat and won't last more than a couple of months. His findings are based on the readings on his diagnostic machine before and after cat sensors, the cost of genuine Lexus cats £1500 each plus fitting, what I am going to try unless someone on here tells me otherwise as iv'e got nothing to loose apart from £40 is to put 4 bottles of Cataclean into a full tank of fuel and hope for the best does anyone know on here if his non genuine cats is true has anyone else put non genuine cats on? and fixed the problem your answers will be very welcome. Thanks for your replys in advance Brian
  3. Thanks Steve for your advice there is a really good auto electrician up in Stoke On Trent called D J Auto's and iv'e been told what he doesn't know about diagnostic's ain't worth talking about so will give him a call in the new year, thanks again for your reply.
  4. Hi All, As in topic title my car is GS430 2005 with 99000 miles on clock and the check VSC warning as come on along with yellow slip indicator light, yellow brake system warning light and yellow engine sign also when these are lit up I cannot engage cruise control. This was a known fault when I purchased the car 4 months ago but the then owner told me he took it to be checked and there was no fault stored in the vehicle memory and that the day to day running of the car was not affected and the lights etc were put out. Since that time the lights have come back on around 4 times and iv'e put them out with a code reader I bought and to be fair I don't notice any difference in the performance of the car. The fault code is P0420 and I get 2 "pages" both saying catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1).I have been reading via google search about this fault code with various "fixes" from "cataclean" to wanting new oxygen sensors to leaking injectors to needing new cats, is there anyone on here that can help with a cure before a go down the OMG how much Lexus dealer route. The lights come on after a random mileage ranging from 8 miles to nearly 100 miles, also I do very short journeys of around 2 miles per day up to 10 miles a day will this have any effect on the cats getting warm enough to do their job?. Kind Regards for your replies Brian.
  5. Hi, I apologise if in the wrong section. I'm in the process of purchasing a GS. Just wondering if the car is known on this forum or any previous owners on here?? Any previous known issues with the car at all?? Any help/info would be great Thanks Brian
  6. HI all, I'm thinking of purchasing one for the above topic title considering there aint alot of difference in size and according to Parkers/Honest John mpg the LS is better this is my reason for considering the LS as well. My concern is the suspension on the LS is it usually bullit proof or do people tend to have problems with it? the car will be used daily so no issues with it being stood for long periods, Thanks in advance for your replies.
  7. Hi Gregg, Thanks for your reply i must admit i do like the Omega i had a 2.6 CDX auto 6 years ago and only sold it because the road tax was going to be increased "mine was a 2001 model" to £400 and i couldn't justify it so i sold it only for the transport dude to change his mind :megaangry: but yes a great car,iv'e got a BMW 330i M-Tech sport coupe and love it but trips to the vet with my Jack Russell and wife has to get in back with him doesn't go down well with wife we are getting on a bit now, i like the look of Jag S type but like the thought of being wafted around in the comfort of the GS Cheers Brian
  8. Thanks guy's if thats the case with the mpg i might as well go for the GS430 SE do these cars suffer with rust like the e46 bmw they are prone to wheel arch rusting"took me ages to find a none rusty one"
  9. Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could answer me a couple of questions regarding the GS around the 2003ish year. Firstly according to the Parkers guide there's only 1mpg average difference between the GS300 and the GS430 is this about right? and secondly is the sport model still comfortable like the se or does it loose the floatability feeling because it's a sport. Many thanks for any replies. Brian
  10. Thanks Ian,I had a few cars in mind the GS300/430,omega 3.2 elite, bmw 530i and S type Jaguar all of which offer comfort with around the same running costs eg fuel consumption, i run a BMW 330i M-Tech sport coupe 2001 at the moment and mpg wise is slightly better than all of the above but a bit too hard a ride now at my age lol. Kind Regards Brian.
  11. Hi all, i'm thinking of buying a Lexus GS300/430 around 2003 model, not had a lexus before and was hoping some one on here could give me some advice on what to look for in respect of faults "all cars have them" weak points and general info really. I'm looking to spend around £2500. The only knowledge i have of the GS range is what iv'e read on Parkers and Honest John sites. At my time in life i'm looking for comfort. Many thanks in advance for your replys. Brian
  12. Hi, i am thinking of buying a LS 430 2003/ish and was wondering if anybody has had any problems with air bags eg, bursting splitting etc also shock absorbers any ideas on cost of replacing these items and what sort of mileage do people get out of these.many thanks,Brian :D
  13. HI Scandy, thanks for the reply,i am looking for comfort as apposed to performance as i,m 56 now and need to slow down a bit,lol lol.I think i am right in thinking the GS430 sport also has air suspension so in that respect the choice is LS430 and because i only do 6/7000 miles a year fuel consumption is not realy an issue. The real thing that worries me is the cost of the air suspension should it go wrong eg, air bags, sensors etc. From what i can see on the forums the engine/gearbox etc are bullet proof as long as proper maintainance has been followed then anything else is what any other car could suffer from but then again other cars are not built like a lexus.I think i just need to take the plunge and find one that offers the most "goodies",least mileage and least owners. Cheers Brian ;)
  14. Hi, i am looking to purchase either a LS 430 or a GS 430 price range £4-6000.I have seen some nice GS430s on autotrader around 2002/3,but now i am also looking at the LS 430s because it is only 6" longer there,s not much in it size wise. The LS looks far more luxurious simiular mpg but with more gadgets more to go wrong.eg how long does the air suspension last is there any way to tell if its on its way out"must be expensive to replace" etc,etc any help/advice on this matter would be greatful, seen a nice LS430 2001 "Y" for £5500,Thanks Brian :duh:
