  1. Well it turns out my IS200 needs a new starter motor, just wondering what sort of price I should be expecting from an independant garage to get it fixed? Thanks.
  2. Well we moved the car down the street and started it up the next morning. It fired first time although sounding slightly lumpy at first. I drove the car around for a bit and turned it off and back on a number of times. Seemed very strange, I took it to the shop today came back, parked up took some stuff inside and went back out to start the car again and it is doing exactly the same as before!!! I can here what I expect to be the starter relay clicking under the bonnet when I turn the key but nothing else, does this sound like a dodgy starter motor/solenoid? Could it suddenly just decide to start working again if it was the starter? I am about 90% sure the battery is fine. My only other thoughts are a dodgy earth or poor connection somewhere.
  3. Oh and where are all the fuses in my IS? Im at work now and will need to check them all quickly when I get home, hopefully its a fuse!
  4. hi try moving the gearlever out of park then put it back into park it maybe the switch in the gearbox that stops you starting the car in gear I have tried and still nothing. It does feel/sound exactly the same as when you try and start the car in gear. Could anyone point out where any sensors are for this?
  5. My car was driving fine today until I pulled up at Macdonalds and went inside, I came back out and the car will not start. All the dash lights iluminate as they should, but the car does not make any effort to start, it wont even try and turn over. The battery reading is telling me about 11V - 12V which is normal but it will still not put any effort into starting. Its a 2000 automatic btw :) Any ideas what might be wrong and what to check for? Thanks.
  6. This happened to me at the weekend and I ended up getting my car seized by a right set of w**k**s! I changed my policy to the lexus on Friday afternoon and got pulled on Saturday for no insurance on the PNC, I explained that I had just changed my policy and that it may not be up to date on the system but they would not listen. I convinced them to ring the insurance company to check my policy, they had the phone on loud speaker and after listening to some classical music for a couple of minutes they hung up and told me to find a way home as they were taking my car! I pleaded with them to stay on hold until they could talk to someone from the insurance company but they said there time is too precious. Needless to say I was fuming when they told me I needed to find a lift home (40 miles from home) and I would have to pay £150+VAT to get my car back as well as being reported for no insurance! I have since spoken to my insurance company who have confirmed that I was insured on the car so im not too worried about being reported for the offence but im still gutted about the loss of my car for 2 days and having to pay for the recovery. I will be going to the police station at some point today with my insurance documents and ill play hell about the whole drama, I think its well within my right to tell them where to shove the recovery fee.
  7. Probably a few hundred quid, not a fortune as its only going to suit a select number of cars, mainly on this forum.
  8. First of all I would like to say thank you for all the useful information on your forum, I read a lot of stuff before buying my Lexus. I purchased a Black IS200 on Saturday afternoon, it has 110k on the clocks since 2000 with full service history. I was a bit wary of buying a car for £2k but the car seems mint, the bodywork, interior and engine are all perfect and it drives like a dream! Iv got to say after owning it just a few days im very impressed at the build quality and how well this car has stood up over the last 11 years. The only niggle I have is the handbrake light sometimes stays on when the handbrake it down, I am going to have a look into it at the weekend but its a tiny problem for a 11 year old car. Hope to be around for a while :D!
