I've recently purchased a 2002 RX300 which had the CD magazine missing. After buying a replacement mag on eBay from the US I realised that the magazine is different for left / right hand drive cars. So I got a quote from a UK Lexus parts dealer and the cost came back as £95. There's no guarantee that the laser in the unit is up to scratch and so I'm a bit wary about spending the best part of a hundred quid. I'm assuming it won't play MP3 discs and I'm not ever sure if it'll play Audio CD-R discs or not.
I have a decent stereo from my old car, a Sony with detachable fascia and USB input and so I'm wondering if I might not be better getting that fitted into the car instead. Has anybody here done that successfully or know of anywhere that would be able to do it for me? I've done a forum search and found a lot of stories about how to add an iPod but I couldn't see anyone who's fitted a whole new stereo to the car.
