  1. Thanks for information guy's I went and got a new battery last night. It immediately sorted all the problems out and the car is starting properly again. Thanks for your help, G
  2. Thanks for that you are probably right. The starter just clicked a number of times this morning when I pressed the starter button and check came up on the display. After three attempts the car barely started but it sounded very strained. I wouldn't mind but I drove it around yesterday to and from work which should have well charged up the battery. I don't have a charger so might just go to Halford's and get a new battery this evening.
  3. Hi Guy's, I have an IS 250 Executive and I had the misfortune to have a truck come in on me about 6 months ago. It took me this long to get it sorted with their insurance. I was lucky in that all force went into my drivers wing mirror and only the outer casing got broken. I searched high and low and got a replacement in a scrap yard that had the heated all electric/folding functions of my old mirror. I had it replaced and fitted last week along with a faulty PDC sensor that I also sourced from a scrap merchant. It was a back street guy who fixed both of these and his level of knowledge would not be great. The day I collected my car I noticed the auto open switch on my drivers window didn't work. I had to hold my finger down on switch to put window down and same when I wanted to put it up. I brought it back and bloke said it just worked for him. I Leave my car at Train station during the day and when I returned Friday my car battery was flat. I got my wife down and she jump started it off her car. I notice now however that my automatic steering wheel is labored in its movement and making more noise than usual. I also notice that the start button in my car is having problems starting the car. When I press it nothing happens. I press it again and it starts but just about? Has anyone come across these problems before? Anyone know what it could be? Any advice on what to do? I don't want to go to Lexus dealer and get raped as usual!! Thanks G
  4. Thanks fort he information Briatore that will be very usefull
  5. Its strange but seems to be a common problem, there are loads of posts here for IS owners whos calipers have seized. Some are getting them sorted by Lexus under warranty others arent. I guess I am lucky that I am being sorted, bar having to pay the labout costs of the dealer. Having had my car for another month I am finding the constant rattle in the dash more and more irritating. But I cant afford to spend hundreds of euros hoping the dealer will get it fixed. I have to say I also find the 2.5 litre engine completely gutless, with no poke whatsoever. Am thinking of offloading already as too many issues raising their ugly heads.
  6. The 520d and 320d are the same engine. I used to be with a company who ran a fleet of both and I have to say they were anything but plagued with issues. Turbos did need replacing usually between 90,000 -110,000 miles but that's pretty acceptable I think. They would be much more reliable than Audi A4. although I have to agree I would not fancy a 3 series as they look bland and feel cheap inside unless you spend a lot on extras. They give good service also and look after their clients well. I have never had a BMW mechanic leave oily hand prints all over my cream leather interior unlike the last couple of times I have visited Lexus dealers.
  7. Thanks for your reply's guy's and your points are taken aboard that compared to some manufacturers Lexus parts last way longer. I have just got my wheels refurbed for €400 and they look like new again, changes the car completely to have them done. I only need a couple of more parts now and I will be happy. 1) Rear outside left parking sensor and 2) Headlight Washer actuator right P/S. I dont suppose any members have access to these parts or would I be better going to a scrap yard?
  8. I have to say I love the Lexus they are a cracking car but I could not live with these "normal Lexus Diesel issue's" and the manufacturers lack of acceptance responsibility wise for the cars design faults. Having had 3 BMW 520 D's over a 5 year period and covered 300,000 miles in these cars and they adhere to the latest emmissions laws they never missed a beat. Long service intervals, 1100 kms per tank I dont honestly think that any other diesel could come close.
  9. Guy's, is there anywhere to get cheap Lexus car parts? The dealers are absolute robbers for standard parts and lets face it there is nothing special about Lexus parts. Its not like your getting incredible quality or anything. I was quoted €2400 for a set of 17" IS 250 Alloy wheels. The wheels we all know are crap quality and will corrode in about 24 months. If there is nowehre in the UK for cheap parts what about getting parts from the US? Anyone any ideas? regards, G
  10. I am missing the blanking plate from my bumper also but have the jet in mine partially working, does however need the blanking plate to work properly. I have been to the dealer and they tell me the blanking plate will cost me €35 (Iam in Dublin) this is sprayed the same colour as car. However they tell me also that this blanking plate wont connect to the washer as the teeth are damaged.. I will need a new headlight washer actuator which comes in at a cost of €280. I think I might just buy the plate and get it sprayed and superglue to bumper. So I guess the scrap yard is the best place to start looking for this part, but I have been looking for a month with no joy so best of luck.
  11. Brought my independently service IS250 for its first trip to a main dealer since it was PDI'd in 2007. My main reason was because I thought that they would do the recall work needed on the car as it had not been in the network. I have to say I found them a little condescending when I arrived and was not that happy with attitude but bit my tongue nonetheless. The customer service girl said that car had all recall work done. I queried this and she said it had definitely been done. They had quoted me €450 for a major service which was pricey but I thought sure it will get the full monty and all will be good. I wrote a little list and hoped they would sort the list out also. 1) Faulty parking sensor 2) Squeeking Dash 3) Cover for headlight wash was missing. My buddy and I joked about how long it would take them to call telling me about more work needed to be done. The call came after an hour. They told me that my rear brake callipers had seized and that it would cost €800. My front brake disks and pads needed to be replaced and that would cost €520, they couldnt replace the cover on bumper but had to replace the headlight washer actuator €280. The parking sensor was €400 to replace and finnally the service €450. They also said that it would take them 3 hours to diagnose as they would have to take the dash out to fit a suppresiion kit to fix squeek, up to €500 and said if it had been inside the network this would have been done under warranty. €2950 in total I pushed the point about the dash being a common problem and one they came across before so why would the charge me so much labour when they could do this relatively quickly but they clearly didnt want to do this job. I also queried whether it was reasonable for the brake callipers to need replacing after 5 years considering my brother in laws 1999 golf had just had them replaced for the first time. They said wear and tear. I then asked them to approach Lexus for a goodwill application, reluctantly he said he would. At this stage I told them just to do the service €450 was about as much exposure I could afford on that day. They did the "full" service and I arrived to pick the car up later that day. They had washed car outside but hadnt bothered to vac inside not that it was bad but I would have expected this after "Full" service. They then told me that they hadnt done spark plugs as they would be okay till next service. When I queried that these should have been inc the "Full" service they said oh no that would be extra, seemily the standard service is €350. I got into my car noticing that the cream leather had black oily paw prints on the back headrests and on my driver seat. I drove home with the list I had given them on my seat thoroughly ****** off and €450 lighter in pocket. The car had also acquired a new dent on the drivers door that was noticed on my arrival home, too late to comment of course. A week later I called the same south county Dublin dealership about the goodwill application they said they would look into it for me and call me back. They did this a few days later sayting that Lexus would do the brake callipers as a goodwill gesture. However they would be charging me €190 for fitting them for me. I was surprised Lexus came through even on the callipers. The whole Lexus experience I had heard was amazing seemed a lot less than what I had been used to in BMW dealerships in the past. I dont think I will be revisiting this dealership anytime soon after I get my callipers done. However I have found a dealer about 60 miles away whose prices seem a lot more reasonable, €350 for "Full" Service, €320 for front pads and discs. I dont want to be unreasonable here as I bought a 5 year old IS250 that had been indepenently lubricated but I now know why.
  12. Thanks for that puts my mind a little more at rest I must get it in next week to get it sorted
  13. Got my car back today with the alloys just refurbed, I have to say they did a good job on them, only guaranteeing them for 6 months mind so it will be interesting to see how long I get out of them before corrosion comes back. I think I need to seal them and get them waxed up to protect them further. Anybody know what sort of a service has to be done on one of these at 67000 miles? Does the Cambelt have to be changed around this time?
  14. Hi Guy's, this is my first post on the forum. I am a converted BMW driver that has been there and done that with the marque over the past 22 years, having had 3 series, 5 series M3's and M5 over those years. Sadly my circumstances have now changed and I find myself with a limited budget in this economic downturn. No more new cars for me so I am being careful and methodical in my choice of car. This has culminated in my purchase of a 07 IS250 Executive with 2 careful owners and 67,700 Miles (109,000 Kms). Because of my budget though this was a private purchase which is something I would normally steer clear of as I like to have my cars perfect. I paid €7800 for the car which would fetch €11000 at a main dealer. The car has not seen a Lexus dealer since it was PDI'd in August 2007 but there is a form of service history in that every 18000 it was serviced by a tyre centre in Dublin where I live as it was a company car.. God only knows what it got or didnt get but the car seems to run well so must have been lubricated in some way. So what I need to do now is clean it up a little, the driver was a smoker and a coffee drinker as the carpets are manky dirty and need a valet which it will get on Saturday. Anybody have any idea how to get cigarette smoke smell out of the car? There is also a vile smelly sock type smell which I imagine is the pollen filter thing not being changed. There is a nokia car kit I need to get taken out as it is bolted to the trim, there is a Bluetooth Nokia car kit that works which is a bonus. I have noticed an irritating rattle from the dashboard that is frying my brain also, anyone any idea what this could be? The car came with parking sensors but they dont seem to work as I am told to clean sonar on the rear left, I must have a look at this and see can I get it to work, anybody any ideas The wheels are in tatters and need to be fully refurbed they are all blistered and corroded which is a disgrace that a premium manufacturer would put second rate alloys on there cars, is it better to do this or just buy a new set of allioy's?Also there seems to be Xenon lights on the car and one of the light washer caps is missing. Other than these nigels it seems to be in good nick. I called the dealer in Dublin and they have quoted me €350 for a full service, €200 for a rear parking sensor, €35 for the plastic cap for the wash system in the bumper (Painted). I have been quoted €400 to refurb the alloys. and €149 for a full valet. Am I mad bringing it to a main dealer? my thinking is that they will give it software update and look after recall stuff that wont have been done on this car and that at least I will be starting from a place I am happy with as this car has to do me for at least three years. What are members thoughts on this and I hope I havent made you bored? Grinche
