Went to have a new tyre fitted today and the fitter refused to remove the the old tyre as he couldn't deflate it by removing the centre of the valve. He said it had no ears that his removal tool fitted into and was worried if he fitted the new tyre he wouldn't be able to inflate it, he then removed the dust cap from one of my other wheels and pointed out the offending ears. I had a damaged tyre pressure sensor in the glove box from a previous botched tyre change and on inspection that had no ears. I got some long nosed pliers and tried to unscrew it, but it just spun around. Are there different types ? and are the centre stems replaceable ? The fitter was telling me that if your car was fitted with pressure sensors from new, they are now part of the MOT test and have to work and they had all the equipment in place to replace and reprogram sensors for all makes and models except Lexus. Lexus wouldn't give them permission to do it or the required information for reprogramming
