  1. Hi folks I’m looking to purchase a 2005 GS 300 and it appears that the standard E10 unleaded fuel is not compatible. I’ve spoken with the current owner and he’s adamant that he only uses standard unleaded and has not faced any issues with the engine/car. Can current GS 300 (2005 - 2007) owners please confirm? If standard unleaded is not compatible then I will have to rethink the purchase given super unleaded prices and practicability of finding super unleaded at most fuel stations. cheers
  2. Thanks both, that’s really helpful. I will research this further. It does seem quite involved and I’m not sure I feel comfortable doing this on my own! Cheers
  3. Hi guys. In a similar boat with a 2016 RX450h. Any recommendation for a CarPlay integration? I want to get this done professionally. Many thanks
  4. Hi all im planning on purchasing a 2016 rx450h premier and desperately require apple CarPlay integration. Are their any reliable integrations available? I would like to get this professionally installed. many thanks
  5. So no coverage for over 100k mileage cars even if under 10 years old? I’m hoping the 1 year hybrid warranty will still be available
  6. Intently watching this space for an update re the new essential servicing plans (tomorrow is 1 June !).
  7. I’ve managed to agree £10k for the car. Hopefully is a sensible price for the age and mileage. Will keep a bit aside for any unforeseen costs
  8. Thanks. I will likely go down the indi route if they stop essential servicing or don’t provide a sensible discount on the normal servicing cost. Can the hybrid check (and associated 1 year warranty) be done separate to general servicing as that it something I would still go to Lexus for. thanks
  9. Thanks. Yes Lexus Reading is my nearest dealership so will be going there. In terms of servicing did you opt for essential service given the car is over 5 years old? The full service costs, especially for a major service is £725 which is quite steep ! Presumably the extended warranty is not void if opting for essential service? Do you know how much Lexus Reading charge for an essential service as I couldn’t see an option for that when looking at their online booking system. many thanks
  10. Thanks. Are shock absorbers typically covered by the Lexus extended warranty? This apparently has one which I will just keep extending. At £46 /month it seems like a no brainer given it also includes comprehensive breakdown cover.
  11. Not quite sure what to make of your ‘silly’ comment. I was asking for opinions on the sound quality difference between the standard and ML sound system and whether it’s worth holding out for one which has the ML system , it has nothing to do with warranty. Anyway thanks for your input
  12. Many thanks all, very helpful. anyone have any experience of the standard sound system? This one unfortunately doesn’t come with the ML system or the wide screen but is good value for money given age/condition. I do like my music though ! thanks
  13. Hi all I'm looking into purchasing a 2013 GS450H with 150,000 miles on the clock. The car comes with full Lexus service history where it has been serviced every single year (including the hybrid battery health checks). 1 previous owner from new who did mainly motorway miles. no advisories on the MOT either. Overall condition of the car is excellent for the age and mileage. I'm a bit nervous about the high mileage but take comfort in the fact that a) it's a lexus and b) its been very well looked after and c) the hybird battery will be warranted for 15 years (provided I get it yearly serviced). Anything I need to look out for? I would expect this engine can do another 150k very easily provided it is well cared for. Thoughts? Many thanks
  14. It seems that this only works with the US version. There are a number of European members in that thread who, like me, are unable to access the hidden menu. Has anyone from the UK actually managed to get this to work? Cheers
  15. cheers for the link. I've tried and it doesn't work (my Nav looks identical to the one pictured, car running and in park). The hidden menu doesn't appear. Also, does upgrading to the latest version of the maps update the interface in any way or is it strictly just a map update?
  16. Hi guys - a couple of queries; 1) Anyone know how to access the hidden menu on the GS (2005)? I'm trying to override the nav menu so I can use all the features while driving (the system automatically blocks some of the features when the car is no longer stationary)? It's quite annoying especially when it doesn't even show you the incoming call number on the screen ! 2) I'm looking to update the maps to the latest 2012-2013 version (currently has the 2005 version). Is this just a map update or will it also update the software? Recommended? Cheers
  17. Quick update - Lexus said that the shim kit does not come with the pads and quoted me £120 to fit this (£38 for the kit and rest labour). I argued that it would not have taken the rep more than 2 mins to slot in the shim kit when they were replacing the pads and therefore I wasn't prepared to pay for the extortionate labour charges. They finally agreed and only charged me for the parts. No more squeals !
  18. Something else I've noticed, the steering tends to turn to the left when I brake. Seized caliper? Will get Lexus to look at this tomorrow as well. Slightly disappointed with their service.
  19. Understood. When I challenged the ref re price diff he made up an excuse that he thought my car was 08 reg rather than 05, apologised and agreed to £295.
  20. Hi Guys I recently took my Lexus (GS 2005) to the dealer for servicing and also asked them to look at the front brake issue (steering wobbled when breaking). They came back with warped front discs and said that front discs and pads has to be replaced and quoted £445. I asked for a discount but they didn't budge. I later checked the Lexus UK website and that showed the cost for front discs and pads to be £295 ! I rang them again quoting the website and they agreed to do it for £295 (I wasn't impressed). When I went to collect the car the rep mentioned that the shim kit was missing from the front brake pads but it shouldn't cause any issue. However, the car now squeals like a **** (sounds like a dolphin being slaughtered) every time I brake. What I find really shocking is a) Lexus didn't notice it when they tested the car after fitting the discs/brakes (I assume they tested it!) and b,) the shim kit is part of the brake pads and they should have included a new one when fitting the pads. The car wasn't squealing before the discs/pads were replaced so at the end of the day it is their responsibility to sort this out. I'm planning on visiting them first thing on Monday to get this sorted as it is currently quite annoying and embarrassing to drive. I wanted to get your thoughts on how I should approach this as they will probably try to charge me for installing the shim kit. The way I see it, I might agree to pay for the parts but definitely not the labour as it could have easily been installed when they were replacing the pads. Appreciate your thoughts/opinion.
  21. Cheers Chris. I've noticed an issue with the brakes (the steering wheel tends to wobble when I brake and the quality of the brakes seem pretty poor) and have booked the car in for a check up and intermediate service. I'm hoping this is not a major issue and won't cost an arm and a leg (hence why I wanted to get some comfort regarding the extended warranty).
  22. Howdy folks ! New to the forum as I've recenlty purchased a GS 300 SEL (2005). I wanted to get your thoughts regarding the extended warranty option (£1,950 for 2 years) as I'm concerned about the quantum of bills that can rack up in case something goes wrong. The car has 75k miles on it and is 05 reg so I only have till May 13 to whack the warranty on before the car get older than 7 years. Is this something you would recommend? Lexus are known to be bullet proof but I'm not sure if it applies to the GS. Lexus has also recently introduced another warranty service for older cars (between 5 to 10 years) which excludes anything related to the Navagation console and has a limit of £2,000 (not sure if thats per claim or per year). The cost is £500 per year. Would that be a better option? Any thoughts/opinions welcome. Cheers
