i recently had the engine management light come on the dash, along with the traction control light flashing at me.
i work in a garage so plugged it into our diagnostics machine, which said it had an idle control problem.
after speaking to our master technician he said the best thing to try is to clean out the throttle housing/butterfly.
i took off the throttle housing, and cleaned the butterfly ect, and bolted it all back together, but now the car wont idle atall? you can manually make it idle by turning the butterfly, and once the vehicle gets warm, it idles ok....but once it idles ok, it wont rev, if u put your foot on the throttle, it does nothing until the last 10% and then it will rev?
i spoke to various mechanics, and they are all stumped by this, mainly because of the complexety of the throttle setup on these vehicles
instead of the throttle cable being linked directly to the butterfly, it is linked to a rod, which in turn turns a motor, which seems to send a signal to the ECU, which then sends a signal back to the opposite side of the throttle housing, which then turns a gear which opens the butterfly? seems alittle complex!
i know this is abit of an essay, im just kind of stumped at the moment, and the car has been sat at work for a few days now, and there isnt much skin left on my head from all the head scratching
any ideas?
many thanks
