  1. Have started to clean engine bay on my 400h.

One thing that particularly niggled me was the corroded Hybrid Synergy Drive badge on the electic motor cover.

After removing the cover and washing it I used mer scratch remover which took away top layer gently removing the coroded laquer. Then gently polished the metal to a mirror finish with Autoglym metal polish.

Used fine brush to apply gunmetal grey lettering using Revel Model paint. When dried used show room shine to bring shine to silver coated plastic.

Result looks line new. Also replaced scrivit fastenings at the same time.

  2. Thanks to all for advice. Couldnt find any wonder wipes locally so thought i'd bite the bullet and try and get the mark of.

Had some Auto Glym trim and stain cleaner in the Garage. Dabbed it on clean car polishing cloth and after half an hours careful work it came off. Have used leather cleaner on the whole panel and then fed the clean surface with Autoglym leather cream.

    Result panel looks like new.

    All the best

  3. I am new here myself after a week or so.Welcome aboard I am loving the 400H so far.Your mods look interesting and look forward to hearing more and seeing pics on progress.

No range I am afraid the car is clever but not that clever. I t does not know when the Hybrid Electrical power will kick in and how it will effect your remaining range. I.E you may be coming up to a 30 to 40 mph zone and run for a couple of miles on electrical power.Conversly you may be about to climb several miles up an incline at very poor Mpg.

Sure some of the experts on here may give you a more technical reply but in laymans terms thats why the display has no range capability.

Ps interesting pic of yr left, hand drive cabin you seem to have an extra cubby underneath the vent which is not on mine .

Ps are you in Prague if so lovely City

  4. I am amazed so far with the fuel economy with although only done 600 miles so far. My Rover was a 1968 cc CDTI auto and my daily work commute is 14 miles which is down hill one way and up the back with a couple of miles through towns and villages.

The Rover averaged 32 mpg and so far Lexi ( Have named every car sknce I was 17) has averaged 33.8 mpg.

On runs such as the second day when I did a 300 mile tester on all kinds of roadsmincluding a stint to Levington on the North Yorks Moors I acheived 35.7. Any one who has been to Levington and the surrounding area will understand that this is pretty testing conditions for a car particularly in torrential rain.

I am still thinking of adding ZX1 anti friction additive. Am new to the technical side of the car so want to make sure gear box and engine oil are totally separate before adding as not 100% sure how the Cvt gearbox works hence anti friction may not be a good idea.

In the engine however I am confident as my last two Rovers each coveredmin excess of 190000 miles and the engines were still going strong at point of sale.

    Best regards

  5. The Paint stain was on the car when I bought it have only had the car a week or so.Suspect it has been on for quite some time.

Itmis only a very small stain but I would like to try and fix it. Can see the bonnet and bumper has been sprayed which for a 2005 car is not surprising so think it is paint rather than original though of nail varnish.

    Thanks again for replies.

  6. Must say i am frustrated over the phone scenario. I am an Iphone fan and have a windows 8 work phone they are both now paired but cannot sync either. have had trouble trying to,fathom out how to manually input into the phone book and still dont know. Then I manage to programe 5 numbers into one touch dialing and it wont let me use it on the move.

On my Rover 75's I fitted a parrot MK9200 I fit and dont know if to try and do the same or if it will mess the highly complex electrics up.

Why seamless connection even with my two phones connected at the same time.

    Easy sync with phone book

The clever bit for me though was the music it streamed direct via Bluetooth to,the Harmin Kardon sound unit and I have I Tunes Match and subscribe to EE. With the coverage I could stream my entire music collection most of the time. Voice recognition for the whole phOne book was also very good.

Anyone already done this with a Navigator or does the two lots of Bluetooth and complex electrics mean its a no no. Or maybe its me just doing things wrong but the manual is a nightmare and I like to think I embrace technology. For someone who is not used tom electronics and computers it must be nigh on impossible to work the Nav and phone.

Views appreciated on getting a new Parrot and training it to,talk Lexus please

  7. Had a great day yesterday picked up my RX400H.

Must say liking it more by the minute and the test drive didn,t do it justice.

Few things im stuck with and could do with some advice.

1 Annoying rattle coming from rear of the car not sure if luggage cover which may be broken or something else.

    2. Should there be a cover over the aux Battery looks as if it should have one but none there

3 Its a Navigator and shows a phone icon but I cant fathom out if I can connect my Bluetooth enabled phones one is a iphone5 and my work phone is an Htc running windows 8

    Thanks

  8. Phil,

I have a 2007 400H and had the same battery dying problem right from brand new. Each time it happened I called Lexus and they changed the battery. Its a manufacturing fault and Lexus knew about it but had no 'fix' for it.I work away and my car was left for many days with-out being used and I would always find the battery dead on return to the uk.

I finally got round the problem by getting my Plymouth lexus dealer to permantley live wire the power socket on the floor and plugging a solar power charger(Solar cells layed on top of dash) into it when the car was not being used.It continually trickle charges the battery.

I have not had a dead battery since doing this.

Its a poor excuse for a car with all the extras I ordered that cost over 50K at the time to keep the battery running but it works.

I understand that on the new 450H they put a larger battery in thus getting round this problem.

I hope they do the same with the new baby RX due out next year,,,lessons learned I hope.

    Derek

Have been reading the aux Battery problems re the 400h with interest and it is my biggest worry about owning the car which incidently I only pick up today.Read about solar chargers in the posts and then saw that the ignition turns the power off and thought oh no that wont work either. Permanent power to the socket is a great idea (just like at home) and is hopfully the real solution tomthis problem for owners.Must say this is a major issue that Lexus should not have missed. Most people need to leave their cars forma week or two when they go on holiday and should not have this worry.Buying mine second hand from non Lexus dealer. They have agreed to fit a new aux Battery as part lf the deal. (exide) .Will eventually replace with best Bosch substitute I can find as have good experience with them.

Thanks for your post Derek as I think it is the solution to the problem.
