If you are tech savy and can take it apart send photos, if the socket is indeed at fault I can do it at my work place and will only charge you shipping - assuming I can get a FFF replacement socket - otherwise you will need a new board
Thanks Toffee.
Its crazy as the unit has been working as normal for past three days. You might be right it might be to do with some socket on the board. I didn’t take out the unit this weekend as it was too hot and also the fact the it is working.
Anyhow, ECP changed over my Bosch S4 Battery, free of charge as it has 5 year warranty and I’ve only had it 2.5yrs. Will see how I get on.

ATS do a air con regas which includes pressure test and oil change over.
Buy via Groupon as they have an offer instead of £62 it is £37

Duff ZIF socket on a main board on the head unit - maybe.
- I had the same problem on my old Lexus - dead screen, I got a replacement board and put it back together myself - think there is a thread here somewhere.
Did you loose the functions of the physical buttons on the side too? As in they didn’t work.

If screen is dead this is the only option - what is the point of fixing trashy old-school sat-nav when one can have modern android system in place for less money. But if it is just digitiser or broken cable then it could be fixed relatively cheaply.
I don’t think it is the digitiser as if it was just that then the buttons on the left and right of the screen should work.
i have basically lost all functions (Climate, Map, Destination, Menu, Disp & Info) as in the image above and have a black screen.
Will open up the console to inspect the wiring.
If the whole unit is dead then I have a choice of a second hand ML unit or the Android.Anyone know if the Android is plug and play?

I have the same problems so looking for a way to solve it. I will start off by taking the head unit out and inspect the wiring. I

My lexus is 220d 2008 mark Levinson head unit screen has stopped working but my radio is still working but can't see anything has any body any advice on how to fix this thanks
Hi, can you use the climate control or any of the buttons on the left and right of your screen?

The A/C replacement would have no relevance to this. Either the entire unit gone bad (which would be strange), or connector got loose. I guess you can check the fuses for head unit, but my expectation would be that if fuse is blown it would be completely dead - no radio or sound at all.
Do you know where the fuse is?

Yes, but that does not explain why physical buttons do not work. As Anton said - screen digitizer faults are common and relatively cheap to fix (£18). By "dead" do you mean it is black or simply that touch controls are not responsive?
Yeah the buttons are not responsive along with the screen.

Has the head unit been taken out before? If yes then my theory would be that some connector was not fully plugged in and wiggled itself lose over time.
Never taken out. Also when they changed the AC compressor I don’t know if they disconnected the Battery.
The problem with the screen going on and off started before I booked in to have the compressor fitted.
Read somewhere else in the US that the screen strip can damage in extreme heat.

As well use tape on the dash surrounding head unit and vents, ideally double or even triple layer of tape. Dash is extremely easy to chip.
As for why could it be - I would look at connectors to the head-unit. You should have separate buttons for A/C control, so I can't see how broken screen can make it impossible to switch it off. Which makes me believe maybe other electrical connectors issue going to head unit.
That’s right all the buttons on the left and right are not working and completely dead.
-
Thanks guys, I’ve disconnected the Battery and reconnected.
The AC is off now but the screen is still dead.
just noticed while the sun was shining in the screen and black line going across the screen. Don’t know if this means it’s knackered.
Is there a fuse I can check aswell before taking the unit out and buying a new screen etc.
Thank you

Battery is not that old, say 2.5 years. Everything works as it should.
The Mark Levinson, screen started playing up for last few days… it would come on or go off for a drive. Then maybe stay off on the next drive to as very intermittent, I just never knew when it would be on or off.
while the screen is blank the buttons on the side and the climate control do not work, however the radio/cd player works which is the unit just below.
Few weeks ago when the screen went blank and came back on it was like it did some sort of auto update and changed everything and all my settings.

Hi All
Don’t know what is going on with my Lexus 😞
You may remember last month my AC compressor died and was replaced.
Now, today I got in the car and it was really hot so put the AC on full blast. Immediately realised I forgot my house keys so turned the ignition off.
Came back to car, the AC came in blasting but the screen is dead and all the buttons are not working on either side. The radio and the CD player all works and sound is also working.
Just the screen and the buttons are not working so I can’t turn off the AC which is on full blast 😞
Anyone know what has cursed my car, and how I can turn off the AC and get the screen back to life. Is there a fuse or something and if so where? Thank you 🙏🏼

Quick update: After being told by AA that they do not cover garage cost for air condition unit, I looked on eBay for second hand compressor.
Found a place in Rainham, Essex that supplied and fitted the second hand unit in a hour for £220. I then purchased a AC regas with ATS via Groupon for £38.
So £258 and my beloved IS is now ice cold.
Thank you everyone for all your help, I guess I could t have timed it better with the heatwave next week.

Update:
Hi Linas, thank you for linking your thread and I have read your symptoms.
While I wait for the parts to be ordered by a air-con specialist, out of curiosity I tried the Air-con button today and my car did not stop but the rev started to jump and the AC light was flashing. The temperature did not cool, so I switched it off and all was normal again.
I have been quoted £650 for a new part and regas on the basis of my diagnosis. My wife reminded me that we have AA parts and Labour which covers £535 for repairs but the garage said if we use AA then the charge would be £780 plus £75 diagnostic. This means that I would pay the extra after the AA contribution.
Reading the terms of AA I have to be broken down and AA called, inspect them they take me to a garage.

Linas, may I ask if you got a new ac compressor and if so how much was the bill.
Thank you

That is basically what A/C service is. They re-gas and at the same time refill the oil, machine does everything in single operation and you usually get receipt saying how many grams of gas was and millilitres of oil was recovered, before refilling with correct amount.
So your A/C was serviced and used in the way which should have preserved it most. In other hand it is 16 years old part, so not bad going. My car got 2 compressors in same time, but it was 200k miles.
To be fair with you I can't think of anything else considering your symptoms, if it would be just the case of A/C not blowing cold air, or A/C light flashing, then you could potentially be looking at A/C clutch relay, or pressure sensors, but because your engine is stilling seized compressor is really the only thing that can cause it.
Thank you Linas,
will look at costs for AC compressors in London.
-
BTW my AC was working a treat and ice cold before suddenly the car stopped.
-
Hope it’s not a seized AC compressor as looking at costs looks like a few hundred supply and fitted 😞

I had exactly same problem twice. In simple terms it will be stuck or seizing A/C compressor. Once the clutch was still working, so RPM would jump for some time then A/C light would start flashing. Second time clutch failed as well, so the engine could not be started without removing belt from AC compressor. In your case it sounds like clutch works, so you can basically turn-off A/C compressor and start the car.
When was the last A/C service done (has to be done every 2 years)? And yes as John said it is fine to drive car without A/C on, it does not hurt the car at all, but generally it is recommended to keep it on, so that compressor oil moves around and lubricates A/C system.
Haven’t serviced the AirCon system but did get re-gassed in February by ATS. I always drive with Aircon on and on circulate even in winter when I am using heat. The AC is active always.

OK to drive with the aircon off.
Thank you John and everyone. Just got home from visiting family. Drove car with AC off and all was good.
Will check fuse tomorrow morning and fingers crossed it is that.

Hi All,
Hope everyone is having a great Bank Holiday weekend.
I was until I turned on my AC and the car shut down on me on main road. Tried starting up again and switched off straight away. Switched off the AC and the car starts and drives all good.
Tried turning in AC in a safe place and again car engine stops. Inspected everything and belt seems to me moving all okay without the AC on however stops when AC on.
Does anyone know what it could be?
Also is it okay to drive without the AC on? Car drives fine and I’ve done 5-6 miles already in this state.
So I have a Lexus IS250 2006 Auto, 118K on the clock.
Thank you

I have been using an ex Lexus Woodford Technician who set-up his own garage in Hainault Business Park. It’s an appointment service so great you get the one to one treatment and I have been using him for over 14 years.
His name is Dan - 07878 018732
You can say Ishaq passed the details via the forum and he will look after you.
I have never been disappointed and he tells me what works needs doing next, but to be honest the IS250 is a bullet and all that ever do is brakes and discs and oil service.
Good luck.
