  1. I've contacted the dealer and they have confirmed that the work hasn't been done. They've also said that the extended warranty is for 7 years which mine is approaching anyway so It's a gamble really!!
  2. I'm keen that it's been replaced on the theory that if it's already been fixed it won't go again...right? Isn't the warranty work done to fix a manufacturing fault? It's on 57,000 miles now, hence the 'stick or twist' debate I'm having with myself.
  3. Thanks guys, i'll raise it with the dealer to see if they have any other paperwork for me. Regarding the question about the extended warrenty, would having it serviced away from the dealer void this? My concern is that Ive not kept up the 100% dealer servicing as Id been told the warrenty work had already been done, if this isnt the case and the gasket does go I could be liable for the works due to bad advice from the dealer.
  4. Thanks for that, yes that is helpful! I'm hoping I can keep it, I'm just slightly paranoid about it going t*ts up under the bonnet and loosing its trade in value! Do you have any problems getting pushchairs in/out of the boot?
  5. Thanks Steve, that was my suspicion, however it's got a compliment slip stapled to it from the dealer saying "Here is the print out for the head gasket work" - Have they cocked it up or have I been swindled?
  6. Firstly, sorry for starting a thread on a theme I'm sure has been covered - I wasn't sure if this was better than dragging up an old thread. I bought a 58 plate 220d about 18 months ago, it's got 57,000 on the clock and (as mentioned in a post elsewhere) I'm trying to decide weather to trade it in whilst it still has some decent value in it or weather to run it till it explodes. Obviously with this model the head gasket is an issue - the Lexus dealer I bought it from said it had been replaced and sent me a document confirming a number of replaced items classed as 'warranty work'. The list is as follows; Converter, Main Valve Assy, EGR Insulator, Mani Gasket, Exhaust Gasket, EGR Valv Tube, No.1 Gskt.EGR VALVE So basically, as somebody with no mechanical knowledge what so ever - does that look about right and it's been replaced fully, or is it still going to be prone to major naughtiness? The service history is full but not 100% dealer (Last one was Kwik Fit for it's sins!), does this mean, if the above work isn't the full replacement, should it go wrong the extended warranty is no longer valid? Any advice would be much appreciated. If I can relax knowing it's not going to ave a fatal error any time soon I'll probably keep it for the long haul, if not I may decide to quit whlist I'm ahead!
  7. Hi All, I'm looking for some advice on whether I need to replace the IS220d or not. In short, we've got a little one on the way and with my wife driving what is effectively a 2 seater we're abit short on boot spae for push chairs etc and mines getting on a bit now. I need to watch the money so I'm not really in the market for something like a Lexus now so looking at the Mazda3, Focus, Civic, Qashqai type cars that are nice enough but not nice enough for me to get excited about. Basically my issue is this; The Lexus is 6/7 years old with 57,000 on the clock, so certain elements, such as the head gasket, could be a ticking time bomb (It isn't 100% dealer serviced which may void any extended warrantees) The running costs are very high compared to the ones mentioned above. Saloon boot and non-folding seats could be a mare getting pushchairs etc in and out of. Rear brake disks need replacing before too long which isn't going to be cheap Considering the above, is it better to twist and go for a new car, or should the above not really matter and should I stick with what I've got? Does anyone have any experience of this car with babies for one thing!? Convince me to keep it so I don't have to buy a focus! :'( EDIT - Can someone fix the typo in the thread title, I can't edit it now. Thanks.
  8. Im sure this has been asked before, but I understand the faulty part in itself is quite cheap to replace, but the consequences of it breaking are very expensive. If this is right, why not just replace it now rather than waiting for it all to go wrong?
  9. Apologies for digging up an old thread - I see a lot about this issues online but, as a new owner, have a few queries that I've not seen answered really on here or anywhere else; 1 - Have Lexus ever announced anything official about the fault and the extended warranty? I've seen it mentioned everywhere but nothing officially. 2 - Is the extended warranty the first you reach out of 7 years / 110k miles or the second? Ie, my car is 5 years old with 46k miles on the clock. I won't reach 110k miles probably ever but will the warranty expire in 2 years regardless? 3 - Given the age and mileage of the car, when can I expect this issue to happen? Is it predictable or random? 4 - What is the likeliness of it happen? I doubt people would come online to say 'all is well' so imagine the horror stories clogging up the web are somewhat biased 5 - Most importantly, can anything be done to prevent this happening?
  10. Yes I got a standard 12 month warranty with it. Will check with them before doing anything.
  11. Cheers! Im not in the least bit handy but I've got a mate who can have a look for me. Does messing with this stuff invalidate the warranty at all?
  12. Hi all, new to the Lexus world this week and have a (possibly very daft question) to do with the economy. I've just upgraded from a 1.4l petrol Ibiza to an 08 220D, and I seem to be getting the same amount of MPG on my usual run (About 120 mile round trip on Motorway and A roads) now than I did in the Ibiza, roughly 37mph ave (sometimes higher in the Ibiza). However, at coasting the read out on the Ibiza went up to 200mpg, where as the maximum shown on the Lexus is 90mpg. Does this skew the averages or is this just an arbitrary thing from them to stick on the screen? I've bought the car for comfort rather than MPG,and of course the IS is bigger and heavier so if it is the same then fair enough, I'm just curious. It seems odd that a car apparently designed for eating up motorway miles is as economical as a 1.4l getting ragged to keep up with motorway speeds. With it being an approved used one (to narrow it down if any of the sales staff read this forum ;)), would things such as the EGR valve and ECU reset which I've seen suggested to boost average MPGs have been carried out? It did have its 5 year service in August as well if not? Or is that a naive assumption?! If I'm doing about 10,000 miles a year, about 7500 of which are on motorways or NSL A roads, did I make the right call getting the deisel? Having one of those 'buyers remorse' moments and regretting not giving more thought to the 250!
