  1. Chris, Thanks, I really value your input, I see that the unit is from a 400h - which is partially electric propulsion so the data on the screen has to be different - to match the different part number? Stupidly perhaps I've put a bid on it! Jim/Ken. (Doesn't matter which)
  2. PCM ~ Thanks for the tip-off, I've been reading their reviews and they are shocking at best! Not quite sure where to go now, don't know if the Lithuanian one for sale would fit - or even if it would work as its part number is different. Any useful contributions great fully received chaps, thank you. Jim
  3. Hi Chris, Thanks for your recommendation but the part number of this screen appears to differ from that given by the Lexus Agent which is: 86110-48130 which fits RX300 2003 - 2009. However I've found a British company BBA-REMAN in Rochester, Kent who tell me that they have repaired many of these with the above part number, their web address is www.bba.reman.com, having spoken with one of their technicians he told me that the cost of the repair would be £175.00 + Carriage and Vat, and that repair would be completed in 3 - 5 days and collection / delivery can be arranged. So now I have to arrange with my garage to remove the thing then later refit it as I have no idea where the fixings are or how to get at them. Jim
  4. Phoned Dingles Toyota Norwich (Lexus Dept) today to find part number and cost of replacement Touch Screen... Are you sitting comfortably?.... The part number is: 86110-48130. - the cost is...£1961.48 incl VAT for exchange screen. I didn't care to ask their fitting charge but at over £70 per hour could be looking upwards of £500. Jim
  5. Found several 'screens' for RX300 up to 2003, could this be the one I need? Can anyone help with the part number for this Touch Screen? I also need a manual that shows how to disassemble the panel to gain access. Manual's referred to here don't download, many others have also had the same download problem. Thanks chaps, Jim
  6. I've had my 04 RX 300 for 11 years, mainly it's been ok and I run on LPG (which has nothing to do with current problem).... Early during ownership I discovered that the on-board navigation system IS NOT SAT NAV but run from a very expensive CD disc costing circa £200 for updated replacement, so instead I bought a GPS unit from Halfords. A place had to be found to a fix the mounting sucker to, as the Touch Screen is flat and glass-like this seemed a good place - until now! How would I have known that the 'Screen' is/was an electronic membrane? Repeated use of the GPS Sucker has now caused the screen membrane to distort causing a convex bump that appears to have hairline radial cracks. Now, pressing any of the buttons on the screen does not work so the clock cannot be altered, the air-con direction doesn't work none of the buttons on any screen work. How difficult is it to remove the 'screen' to fit a replacement? And where can a reasonable priced unit be obtained from? Any help or info here would be a great assistance. Needles to say this is a 'Heads-up' on a failure that can be caused through using the screen as a GPS MOUNTING SURFACE and would be applicable to any Touch-Screen in other vehicles. Jim
  7. There's two switches marked AUTO and ALL moving either of these does nothing.... Found it, Thank you Mark, the switch is marked as a door/window having a strike through it, the switch was pressed! Somehow I must have done this in the dark the other night without realising it. Stupid really because I've had the car for 10 years. Once again Thank you Mark and Colin. Ken
  8. A week ago all was fine, everything worked, but today while out my passenger could not open window! Back home I tried everything including disconnecting the battery to 'Re-Boot' the system, again to no avail; the handbook describes how to re-set the windows - but assumes that they go DOWN which is not the case at the moment. Of course the book continues: further problems take it to a dealer £££££ and more £ which is not what I want after being taken to the cleaners once by a main Toyota Dealership. Does anybody understand this fault as all fuses visible under bonnet have been checked and are ok, only the driver's window operates correctly ? Ken
  9. I run my RX300 on LPG and have done since buying it 9 years ago, to be honest I've never calculated fuel consumption - there's no need; the LPG tank (that replaces the spare wheel) has 60ltr (water capacity) and takes me 160 miles Fakenham to Leeds with caravan in tow - with enough gas left over to run 40 miles. Using LPG has the effect of making the petrol gauge inaccurate so the odometer is used instead, simply resetting the trip at fill ups, with a full tank I get 220 + miles which at 70p litre makes for really Eco motoring. 10. Well, the car was at the workshops for 24 hours, the fault was found to be No 1 spark plug, not surprising as the plugs had gone several thousand miles beyond recommended change time (60,000) with all plugs renewed the fault lights no longer show, just in case the problem turned out to be a faulty coil the No.1 coil was swapped with one at the front - to be easier to get at if needs be, but it wasn't necessary as the plugs were to blame. Total cost was £340, not bad considering what it would have been at a Toyota dealer (circa £700). Ken
  11. I omitted to say that after buying my RX300 I had an LPG conversion done by a VERY PROFICIENT AND CERTIFIED COMPANY - K Mugglestone of Boston, Lincs, that was 54000 miles ago and no problems have ever occurred. After writing my problem I took the car round to my local excellent garage to have it checked by diagnostic meter, the fault showed as No 1 cylinder defective combustion, the fault shown was cleared and fuel changed to petrol, the car ran perfectly and even after a road test the engine check & vsc faults did not reappear. I phoned Mugglestones and mentioned the problem and got the following information that would clarify where the fault lay, 'Start the engine on petrol, check that it runs ok, then switch to gas, still at tick over without load, if the engine runs normally there is unlikely to be a fault in the gas system at any speed or load BUT because gas is dry any fault in the ignition system will always show up on gas before it does so on petrol' , as the car has covered 69000 miles with original iridium plugs (they should be renewed at 60000 miles) the plug gaps will have widened considerably and likely to be the problem so change them, 'If the problem still exists it would most likely be down to a defective on-plug coil needing replacement.' The car has been given to the garage today for plug change tomorrow - which entails removing the inlet manifold to gain access... ££££ Will let you know the result anon. Ken
  12. Yesterday the outside temp indicated was 5 deg, on attempting to start the battery was flat (1year old), I used my portable jump start and all was ok. Today, after driving 30 miles first the engine light blinked for several minutes before staying on, the engine sounds ok and not misfiring or lacking a cyl or power; minute later the vsc light came on and now both stay on! But there is no difference in the running of the car, The car was 1 year old when bought in 05 with 15k on the clock, now has 68k and has always run well. I've checked the petrol filler cap, it's ok and gives a 'swoosh' when loosened admitting air. I've topped up the coolant with Toyota Long Life Coolant, checked the oil level that was ok too but I have no diagnostic tools, I've run out of ideas... Ken
