  1. Yeah we might do that. The problem is that we'd have to take it in again which is time consuming, a phone conversation along the lines of "how much would it cost to fix our broken aircon" probably wouldn't be too productive. Thanks all for the suggestions, I'll try to get the part number too. Good tip.
  2. Hi The aircon on our RX400h (08) stopped working and has been diagnosed as a fractured pipe. They said that the whole hybrid system has to be removed to get to it so it's a big job, which will take 3 hours, with a chunky labour bill to go with it. Does that seem reasonable? It's a Lexus dealership so I am fairly comfortable that they're not ripping us off, but just wanted to double check what others had seen. Cheers
  3. Bit tricky mid-motorway. He's pointing out a design flaw in the way it warns you, not objecting to being warned.
  4. I had to replace the 12V on my 2008 car this week - it was just completely shot, couldn't hold any charge in the cold. But yes, don't sit with elctrical drains like satnav, AC, bluetooth or radio running, unless you Start the hybrid system & it is in Ready.
  5. Yeah I mean things like setting up the phone (or does the updated firmware not make you go through 4 menus to change which phone is connected?) or other settings, so thanks for clearing that up.
  6. Thanks - I decided to avoid the major surgery and managed to just about bend it out far enough to get the clips into place and the father-in-law noticed that the main clips on the trim had to be tucked under the rubber door seal - all working fine now :)
  7. The plastic piece with the moon shape hole that the seatbelt actually runs through, inside/behind the trim, isn't sitting right so the belt doesn't move smoothly and I need to adjust it. I've tried prising this trim off at the sides which kind of works but it seems fully wedged in at the top under the headlining and at the bottom where the column changes to black. Is there a "correct" way to remove this? I don't want to snap any clips.
  8. and thanks for some advice you guys gave me when I was looking to buy. Really helped. So I ended up picking up this, high mileage July 08 RX at a decent price. Couple of grand more than several similar mileage 06 SEs I looked at. I think it must be an Exec LE because it has the right spec for that. Bodywork in very good nick though a dink on the boot needs fixing and some gritter chips need sorting. Wheels are immaculate, somehow. Maybe refurbed. Proper Lexus service history (even the 90k when it's only done 87) - I imagine the next one will cost me a few bob? Interior and paint had had some Supagard treatment applied to it when new and I think it has kept it in decent condition in spite of the mileage. Quick check of the satnav history suggests a lot of motorway trips which I'm hoping is a good sign. Wife was ready to kill me this week when it refused to start 4 days out of 5 :) New battery went in today! Outfit who sold it to us is paying, which I appreciate, though they must have known it was dead and really should have done it before. btw, Kwikfit happily let us book it in for that and then said "oh we can't work on hybrids" when we took it in. Muppets. Halfords Autocentre were great, guy even drove off to their warehouse to get a different battery when they realised they'd brought in the wrong one. So nice to drive. I haven't quite got the seat set up right yet, lower back feels a bit stressed after half an hour, but the ride, performance, handling (not perfect but I'm a BMW addict and it's not embarassed in that company) and especially level of kit is amazing. The dials, hifi, satnav and bluetooth are REALLY nice. And I love the comedy 50p digital clock - what were they thinking? Speaking of which - it lets you register more than one phone but you have to change manually between them (and actually I'd quite like to register my personal & work phones and have them both active) - I don't suppose later satnav firmware allows that?
  9. Does the "on the go" update allow you to change other settings on the move or just the destination? It's very annoying how nannying the thing is, cutting out half the options. Can't even set the mirror/seat memory position! It's a split second press with one hand. I'll probably buy the E18 West Europe disk anyway because the idea of having the newest firmware appeals to my shiny instinct, but would be good to know what has changed. Thanks!
  10. Thanks guys. That's very helpful. Looking at another few today so should get some useful comparisons.
  11. Hi Considering buying an RX400h. The bodywork is generally ok, interior is very good. But the wheels have suffered what seems to be the Lexus canker. I can work on that. The thing that's a bit more of a mystery to me, and I'd really appreciate any thoughts from the experts on here, are these components of the suspension which seem to have suffered from some deteriotaion, much moreso than the rest of the undercarraige. What are these things and does anyone know how much they will cost to replace? And does the general state of corrosion there look normal/ok for a 55 plate? Thanks (sorry about image size, best way to show detail) Right rear wheel Left rear wheel
