  1. I want to redo a similar setup to this. I did this in my older IS200. I since brought an Audi A4 which was crap so Im back to an IS200. My plan is to have an Alpine W505R double din dvd headunit in place of the standard radio. This will have an Alpine Blackbird navigation system docked in it. Lastly I have a motorised housing which I aquired recently. I just stripped the screen out of it to replace it with a different screen where I can input the signal from my headunit.

The headunit will output the satnav visual into the motorised housing screen.

I was intent on getting an Apine TME M780 screen however after measuring up im finding its going to be too tall, the width is fine. My second solution is to go with an Alpine 6.5 like I did with my previous setup or buy a 7" screen and strip it. What would you guys recommend. Anyone fitted any 7" screens they can recommend?

  2. I was inspired a while back by this thread to have a go at my own Portable GPS mod, it works great with a a garmin 255w, couldn't be more pleased. Looking through this thread and pictures i have noticed that you've only connected the permanent live, the ACC and the negative.

I had a look through the wiring diagrams and found the unit is also connected to the Starter circuit. All you need is a 12v feed off the starter circuit going to Pin 3 on the unit plug, this stops the unit closing then opening again when you start the engine.

I originally didn't have this connected and it got really annoying, quick solder job from the loom near the ignition barrel (the wire you need is the thin black and white striped wire) and hey presto, sorted. Just something to think about.

Sorry i don't have any pictures, i didn't document my work. I hope this helps someone and sorry again if my description is vague.

Sorry to bring this post back alive. I was wondering which one is pin 3. I got all the other connections sorted but I need to take the wire to the starter circuit. Do you just count accross from the first row from left to right?

  3. The security light is supposed to stay turned off. When you put you new key to be programmed in the ignition barrel, if it starts to flash it is not in program mode. You have to press the accelerator pedal once then it should start to flash.

  4. if you look on ebay their is a boy selling trd side skirts brand new never been fitted.........dealers also sell the front and rear bumper lips wouldnt go for fiberglass though!!!!brakes too easy!!!! and doesn't fit as well as oe.i've got the tte front bumper with trd side skirts and the trd rear lip got the front bumper easy but the side skirts and rear lip were harder to get as i waited to get them second hand as i wasnt paying dealer prices!

I have seen those but are they genuine?

  5. I got a Nokia 3230 (Sybian 60) as a free up-grade from O2.

Got TomTom Mobile 5 running on it and it is really good. Also down loaded the speed camea data base from Pocket GPS after a tip from here and that seems to have most camera sites on it.

Also use the organiser function for a diary which syncs to Outlook on the PC at work over Bluetooth.

Didn't bother with a car kit just bought a cheap phone holder from the local market and made a bracket to mount it in the car. I have a Jabra Bluetooth headset which connects to the phone at the same time as the TomTom GPS receiver with no problems.

Only down side is the phone eats the battery when using the GPS, get about 3 hours on a full charge, so I had to buy an in car power adaptor which leaves me short of power for the radar detector. I have a plan for multiple power outlet to get around that.

    Hope that helps :D

You need a Nokia CR27 Holder made for the 6680 but the N70 work in it also as I have it. You can plug the HF 3 Hands free kit into the bottom of it and plug the other end into the lighter socket. Works perfect!

  6. so....

would people agree this sounds like a faulty multimeter, or do i need to worry...

Ground the neagtive lead from the multimeter on the car elsewhere, then try both terminals again one after the other. This way you will find the positive. If it still blows the fuse must be something wrong with the mutimeter. I done the exact thing to wire up my sat nav and did not come across any problems.

    Good Luck
