  1. thanks for the replies everyone, went to my local garage to book it in for a cambelt and asked them to check the gearbox fluid at the same time :) more money!
  2. Hi Everyone, I have a 2003 IS200 with the automatic gearbox and I have always known toyota/lexus autos to be very smooth. Mine is smooth but shifting from 1st to 2nd is becoming slightly jerky (2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th I cant even tell when it changes) Is it just because its a low gear that it will be a bit jerky or does it need a fluid change?
  3. Hi Scudney That's done the trick, sprayed it this morning and it folded :) thank you. Funny what a bit of oil can do... unless it miraculously fixed itself overnight! Thanks again
  4. Hi Everyone, I don't know if anyone can help but my passenger side folding mirror has decided to not fold in when pressing the button. The drivers side folds fine and I can still adjust the passenger side mirror glass as well, it just wont fold (although manually it does) I have checked fuses but I assume they're fine because the other mirror works unless they have separate fuses? Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the replies, yea the picture quality isn't the best... V pleased with it just need to get the rear wheels done as there are a couple of kerb marks which spoil it up close
  6. ..... and wash and polish the beast :) Looks quite good I reckon, I used Maguire's brilliant shine polish, goes on nice and no hard buffing to remove but it isn't cheap!
  7. Great thanks Colin, that's less than I thought :) I know a couple of guys who own a garage and they did say change the water pump while the engine is apart so will do that. The belt has only done 30,000 since its last change but it is 6 years next year so need to get it done
  8. Hi Everyone, I have a 2003 IS200 (not sport) and its due a cambelt change mid next year. Does anyone know what sort of price this will be? am I going to have to re-mortgage?! Lee
  9. Hi Everyone, I have seen a few IS200'S around Norwich lately and wondered if anyone else on here lives in Norwich?
  10. I cant go back to my normal garage (or the MOT) place and ask them as they cant find an issue with it. Its an awful sound because the car is so quiet and that's the only thing I can hear! could it be shock absorbers then?
  11. Hi Everyone, I have a 2003 IS200 and I love it but there is one thing wrong with it and has been for a while. The dreaded knocking sound, the service history says its been checked before at lexus but no fault found. My normal local garage has looked at it and found nothing and when it had the MOT it was also put on the "shake plates" but also found nothing. If this is a common fault and I take it to a different garage and they manage to find something is wrong, how do I know they aren't trying to rip me off or whether they have actually found the problem? Does anyone know for sure what the knocking could be?
  12. Hi Everyone, I bought my IS200 over 6 months ago and am now sorting out some fiddly bits on it. I am missing the silver wheel nut covers for the locking wheel nuts (it makes the wheels look awful!) Does anyone know what size the wheel nuts are? I thought they were 21mm?
  13. Hi Everyone, I'm sorry to post yet another "knocking" topic but mine is getting quite bad (and annoying) I have taken it in to my usual local garage who are brilliant but they say they cant find anything wrong, it happens at mainly low speeds over minor bumps and speed humps but hardly hear it when travelling above say 40 mph. I looked at the previous service history and did find on one of the servicing sheets "could be top mounts" but these seem fine.... Does anyone have any ideas? is it a cheapish fix? its a shame as the rest of the car is so quiet, its only done 50,000 miles so its almost perfect mechanically apart from this of course lol
  14. I will certainly give that a try and also the shell optimax. Ah so the civic was a "needs must" thing then I guess? Not bad cars at all the civics, my old man has an accord and he loves it. I had a Nissan 200sx before my citroen as well but it was costing me a bomb in insurance and fuel so I had to get rid of it after a year, I wanted one really badly so I just went and bought one, silly things you do when your younger hey! I love my lexus too, so comfortable and quiet and everyone loves the colour too, I like the wheels on yours too in your picture I assume that's you car? lol Still need to try and get a knocking sound sorted on mine, so annoying and it doesn't make a sound apart from that and no one can find anything wrong with it!
  15. do I have to mix it with a full tank then? Yea I agree with keeping the revs up, above 3500/4000 rpm its very nippy :) wow you have spent loads on it! what car did you have before that?
  16. Andy, Well there is a lexus stick under the bonnet to say it was done at 36k and the car is now on 54k but the guys did say it was due next year so maybe its the age rather than the mileage. I haven't tried optimax yet, I have used BP ultimate up until now but will give it a try seeing as you mention it. Its probably worth it, over a full tank it wouldn't be much difference in price anyway I would imagine? what fuel system cleaner do you recommend? I used to use red ex in my old cars but I have heard that that's not the best stuff?
  17. yea they plugs were done, they were £55 with a 15% discount as I know the guys there. It was the first time they had seen the car so I was showing them all the Lexus service history and it has always had the best parts fitted to it so I did make sure proper parts were used (seeing as it is a lexus, if I still had my citroen xsara, would be a different story lol) Thanks for the welcome Andy, I love the car, so smooth, quiet but sounds awesome when you press on a bit!
  18. Hey Everyone, It was just a general question about servicing, I have had my IS200 for about 6 weeks now and I have just had a major service done on it (plugs, filters the usual) It came out at £155, is this a good price? I know the guys in the garage who did knock £15 off for me but even so does this sound right? Never had a car as "nice" as a Lexus before so was curious, it wasn't due for another 3000 miles but better safe than sorry and it sounded sweet before but its made a big difference, very smooth and quiet I guess it responds well to servicing? Lee
  19. Hey everyone, just thought id share my handywork! I used a spray on polish/wax from turtle wax to do my car and was pleasantly surprised by the results, only took 20 mins and no hard buffing/rubbing just wipe on/wipe off, highly recommended!
  20. Hey Everyone, Only my second post here!, great forum! I have a general question, do any of you use the 1 2 3 positions on the auto box very often? I use mine for engine braking when going down or up steep hills but do you ever use it for manual driving in general? like rather than using the kickdown if your about to overtake someone, just select it manually?
  21. Hi Steve, Thanks for the reply, It does sound like that, it sounds like the cog is slipping when I move it. Luckily I can get it in just the right position so its not hugely urgent, I will definately go second hand as I bet new they are loads money!
  22. Hello everyone, First post on here after saying hi in the newbies section... I went to move my drivers mirror this morning and I can hear the motor trying to move the glass which it does in and out but when I try to tilt the glass up it clicks and returns to its original position again when it gets to a certain point it's like part of the glass has come away or unstuck from the motor.. Is this an easy fix? I don't really want to take it apart myself only had the car two days!
