  1. And I bought it! Drove about 200 miles in it yesterday and compared to other cars of this age i've driven it feels screwed together really well. Love it and hope to get many miles of hassle free motoring out of it.
  2. Hi All, Apart from the obvious things you'd check on all cars, any specific areas I should be looking at on a IS300 Sportcross ? I'm guessing things like checking the timing belt & water pump have be done at the correct age or mileage (any idea when this is? 8 years or 80K miles?) Many thanks Stu. BTW - Any idea what the width is with mirrors? Specs of seen aren't clear if 1725mm is with or without mirrors.
  3. Here are a couple i've found locally i'm going to go and check out... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201410318645611 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201411068790434 Are either of them know to this forum? Any advice most welcome!
  4. Almost forgot..... What are they like for rust? Good, bad, average? Any particular places to pay attention to?
  5. Hi All, As mentioned in a previous post I'm 99.99% certain i'll shortly be buying a RX300 of about 2002 vintage. And it just so happens I have a spare set of alloys from a 1995 RAV4 with brand new winter tyres on them. I've checked a few websites and it looks like the rims are very similar. OEM bolt patterns, etc are claimed to be the same and a lot of the other values seem to match or the ranges largely overlap. The OEM RAV4 rim (which I have) is 6.5 x 16 ET45 and the OEM RX300 is 6.5 x 16 ET35, so would that extra 10mm of wheel offset (35 v 45) on the RAV wheels cause a problem if I was to fit them for use over the winter? Thanks!
  6. Hi All, Newbie here and not yet a Lexus owner. I'm looking for a cheap, cheerful and hopefully reliable ride and the 2000 - 2003 RX 300 has appeared on my radar as well within budget and there are a number for sale locally with about 80,000 - 120,000 miles recorded. I do less than 6,000 miles a year so the poor fuel consumption doesn't really bother me. Other than the usual common sense car checks are there any things I should specifically be looking for? I searched for a buyers guide on the forum but couldn't find one. I've seen on some sites mention of ECU problems which can lead to poor auto changes and can be terminal to the transmission. How common is this and what are the warning signs? Am I right in thinking the cambelt needs replacing before 100,000 miles or 10 years? What is an approx. cost to have a garage do a cambelt change? Other than the above and the alloys corroding I can't find any reports of much going wrong (which is one of the reasons i'd like to get one). Does anyone have any top tips on anything else to look out for? Many thanks Stu.
