  1. Thanks to all - thought I'd reply to my own post and relate what happened. As we know, the key should still work even without power and I sprayed WD40 into the lock as I said. After some 4 hours of turning the key and sprsying, nothing changed, so I waited for replies to my posting. My wife came in at 5 o'clock that evening and I told her what had happened. She picked up the key, put it in the door lock and opened the door... I stood there with my mouth open whilst she muttered something about alzeimers and strolled away, leaving me dumbfounded. Apart from the obvious (witchcraft) I can only assume the WD40 needed time to work.. Women eh? The tip about the boot light is a good one though and I've made a note in case the head of the coven is not available.
  2. I have a LS400 1997 and unfortunately left it for a few months whilst we were away. The battery is stone dead and the remote won't open the doors. Much to my surprise, the key wont open the door either and so I'm stuck. The key opens the boot, no probs, but not the doors. Tried many things including a new battery in the remote and wd40 in the key slot, but struggling now. Ideally if I could open the bonnet I could re-charge the battery and that would probably do it, but of course I cannot open the bonnet because I can't get to the bonnet release (in the car). Does anyone know how to open the bonnet release from the outside? Thanks to all for your help
  3. I have had my LS400 (1997) since new and can honestly say I have nver had a problem with it. However, in the last month the speedo and tachometer have developed an intermittant fault. When first switched on, sometimes they both stay at zero, and then after a few miles, they spring into life and act normally. Then on some days only the tacho works. Other days only the speedo works. after a few weeks of this, they both appear normal again, except the speedo needle illumination (on the actual needle itself) is only half lit. everything else, including all the other gauges is perfect. anyone come across this before? I now live in Tenerife and Lexus dealers here are few and far between and very, very expensive. Quite upto the job of removing and replacing dashboards etc, but I'd love to know if any memebers have come across this before. Thanks
  4. I have a 1996 LS400 with the glove mounted cd changer and I am having terrible trouble getting the CDs to play. The radio and cassette work fine and strangely so do the CDs every now and then (about once every fifty or hundred tries, a CD will play perfectly normally). Most of the time the display shows the track number and then hangs after about 20 seconds it then shows "ERR 23" or "ERR 21". I have cleaned the lens with a lens cleaner and changed the discs randomly but to no avail. When a CD sometimes plays perfectly normally, it can be any slot or any CD that plays, so I don't think it is related to the media. Do any of the CD experts out there have any ideas for me ? Thanks to all.
