  1. Just adding to this as the problem evolves .... basically had a dpf clean, fitted a new egr and still i have intermittent smoke (blueish in colour) often under acceleration, sometimes at idle/low revs. Is it possible the dpf is regenerating erratically when it shouldn't be?
  2. Have fitted a second hand but good egr to the car and so far no limp mode but seems to be taking the odd notion idle high (1500rpm) from cold and stall when warm and some smoke now and again
  3. Update: when car is warm it seems to have good power, no engine management light but some smoke. When cold it has very high idle, very low power until 3000 rpm intermittent going into linp mode.
  4. 07 Is220d - Story is the car was going into limp mode throwing up dpf beyond threshold. Had a terraclean done on the whole engine and dpf. The boys said they hadnt seen a dpf so bad but it was cleared out now. Problem is its still in limp mode and is now idling at 2k rpm. Undriveable now, in fairness the fellas havent charged me but they are suspecting an egr problem??? Any ideas? Urgently stuck here.
  5. I have now fell into the famous 95% threshold dpf problem. Car is going in for a terraclean rival firm dpf clean with a friend who is giving it an extra go on the machine. It will then be traded in for something else. 1 month ownership of an is220d has taught me toyota where on heroin when designing this engine and modern diesels are complete and utter scrap and not cost effective. I will however not give up on the Lexus brand and will own another (petrol) in the future.
  6. To save starting another dpf thread, im desperately stuck with a smoke issue on my 220d. I think dpf removal is the way forward. My quwstion is if i gut out the dpf & cat will I need to have the ecu remapped?
  7. So cleaned the egr valve on a whim and it was fairly sooty and seemed to be stuck open by about 1-2mm. Cleaned and refitted, so far zero smoke and power seems consistent, fingers crossed it cures the smoke but still no further on as to why it uses coolant when topped up to the max line and uses it until its below the low line.
  8. From driving the car a bit more the car is definitely not using coolant once it gets to the low line of the coolant bottle. Im now convinced tho its intermittently down on power too.
  9. Hi new to the forum and bought a 2007 is220d as i loved my is200 I had. I know now headgaskets are a common problem on these cars and have had it diagnosed as this by a mechanic bit im not convinced. Car will use coolant if its topped up to the max line and will drop until it gets below the slow line then not use another drop. So it seems to be pressurising the coolant bottle when full. There is no milky oil cap and the oil was changed for a regular service and is still clear. The car will give off white smoke when warm but not all the time and still has good power and drives as it should. Economy seems to be around 40mpg or so. The car had a new turbo and dpf 11 months ago by the previous owner who said the smoke problem started then and swore blind on the test drive it didnt use coolant. Any ideas?
