Hi Steve
yes I did run it in 3rd gear for about 10 15 minutes. I made sure that it’s upto the temperature before I dropped off it at mechanics. But he tested it 4 hours later.
when I said it was 0.02 CO, it’s when it’s idle. When it’s tested at 2500rpm, it’s actually 0
thanks scudeny as well for the message.

Good news
it passed the MOT
CO emission is 0.02% as against 0.2 % limit
lambda within the limits as well.
Honestly speaking the car feels different as well. Very very quiet and acceleration is noticeably better.
just did the terraclean and nothing else.
thanks for all the input

That is very cheap for terraclean, must be COVID pricing... before you could not get it done for less than ~£100-£120. At very least it would not hurt.
You can try to be a little cheeky and try to figure out when they actually going to test it and arrive like 20 min before that. But I do know exactly what you mean... some places just say bring the car in for 9AM and pick-up at 2PM... most of the time when you arrive at 2... only then they say... "ohh yes that car let's do the MOT".
At some point I found the place which actually gives proper appointments and you out of there within 45 min...
yes that’s what I thought to get it done.
I will post the retest result on Monday. Fingers crossed. -

I have done terraclean - car was ~160k miles at the time... as a matter of fact I don't even know why I did it... probably as preventative maintenance and hoping that engine will be more efficient or something. The test sheet showed 0.00% emissions before the clean and 0.00% emissions after the test... seems like I was running on hydrogen all the time.
In short, it made no difference on my car, but I didn't have problem in the first place. So who knows... apart of that I didn't felt any improvements after terraclean whatsoever.
As somebody already suggested, considering that car was driven rarely and for short journeys simply blasting it for 20 min on motorway and getting fully warmed-up before MOT could be all it needs.
If at all possible I always try to do MOT right after driving when car is still warm, some more reasonable places as well runs the engine at least for few minutes before testing emissions, because to be fair any ICE car would fail the test if they put the probe on cold engine and only then started the it.
I have someone coming to do a terraclean tomorrow at discounted price (£50). Think will get it done and then go for a 30 min run before going to retest on Monday. But the thing is once I take the car back to garage, there isn’t any guaranty that they will test it then and there.
I did ask the garage if they tested it on a warmed up car and they said yes. But I know it may not be right.
I will clean the MAF as well before the retest.
if needing to replace the o2 sensors, please can you send a link to buy this one. Hope I won’t need it -

Not always, it has to be really bad for an error to be detected.
I'd start with cleaning your MAF sensor as that is a simple thing to do.
Please can you direct me in the right direction on how to clean the MAF sensor?

Has it been serviced regularly particularly the air filter and oil.
How is the car used, just around town or longer higher speed journeys, a good run can do wonders on a town dwelling car.
Yes
it was last serviced in September 2019 by Lexus, oil and filter service
since March 2020, it has only been used about 500 miles and mainly short journeys like 3 4 miles.

have you ever had to change the O2 sensors? 99k miles and 13 years old, they might not be reading 100% which could result in higher than normal CO.
Hello
never changed it. But if it’s faulty, would it not show up in diagnostic process?
-
Hello all
my 57plate IS250 failed MOT on its emissions.
CO emissions 1.62% but the limit is 0.2%
lambda emission is 0.95 but limit is 0.97to1.05
The diagnostic was run and there is t any electrical sensor fault and there isn’t any warning light on in the dashboard.
The garage has suggested to go for terraclean which will hopefully clear the carbon buildups and result in a lower emission.
Could it be the case?
Mileage is 99k.
any helpful information be appreciated.
thank you

Update
I got my car back this afternoon.
I spoke to the technician and he explained that the code was relating to gearbox shift D solenoid which is all internal. Further he said it was due to second gear not engaged at 7 mph speed. He reckons its a one off thingy and should it happen again, they will have to diagnose it further. He did about ten mile road test in manual mode and codes havent returned back. I dont know which codes were they. I drove back home from dealer and all is looking fine for the time being.
I dont notice any problem with gear change. Its smooth as anything.
I asked if it could be because of condensation in the gear box and he denied it.
He seemed like a decent guy who knew what he is talking about. As per him its very rare that these faults often.
All in all i have car back now and enjoyed my ride home. I have to monitor it over next week or so to see if it happens again.
I do short journeys during the week. Can it be because of that?

Thanks for all the input guys.
The light is still on and i have only driven couple of miles since it appeared yesterday.
Its going in tomorrow and will have an update on it. I could read the codes etc myself but prefer for dealer to do it as its under warranty. Plus they will have a lexus code reader than a general one.
Will post an update tomorrow
wish me luck

Is there a DPF on IS250? I wasnt aware of that. I was under impression that its only in diesels
-
Hope its just the sensor. It will be covered under warranty - hopefully

Yes, will do that in the evening. I forgot to mention that it has 81k on the clock. I checked the Battery terminals, they are all tight.

Hello all
So yesterday I got this check VSC light on with engine management and yellow skidding sign in the Dash. This was right after getting into the car after an hour of parked up at the gym. so engine was half warm i would say.
No issue with the performance though. Still need to check the fuel cap and see if it has any effect on it.
Also booked in with Aberdeen Lexus as I have extended warranty till end f this year.
Any possible reason for this dreaded light to be on?

All the callipers are new - Lexus changed them before selling it to me.
the noise is coming from the front on passenger side. Dont think its affecting the performance of the car. I will listen to it more carefully today and post an update on this.
-
The noise is not there when engine is idling. It only comes when I am accelerating for the first 3-4 miles. This is when I only let it idle for a minute only before starting my journey. If I let it idle for 4-5 mins before starting journey (when cold), there is no noise.
Mileage is 80k

Hello All
I have been enjoying my IS250 for the past 6ish months now. I am not sure if I have been picky but I could hear a slight grinding noise coming from engine when the car is gold. Once temperature is in the middle, its quiet. Wondering if this is normal?
I have been trying to run through a can of BG44k but haven't got a chance yet. Would it rectify the problem?
Thanks
-
Thank you :-)
-
The car was hesitating to accelerate but after reading other posts, I believe it was due to blowing exhaust. since it got repaired this week, the car is performing much better. no erratic idling etc. and good acceleration. BG44 was more like a thought as the car has 78k on the clock.
I will perform ECU reset over weekend as exaust has been replaced now. Please can someone advise how to sync the windows after reset and any potential problem reset can cause?
thanks

Hello all
Please can you advise how to reset the ECU on IS250 Auto? its 57 plate.
Also would like to know if someone has used BG44 on IS250 before. I suspect a carbon build-up issue.
Regards
Harpreet

Agree with you rayaans
but the thing is there was an existing paste repair done to the exhaust which in my opinion was a substandard to Lexus approved inspection.
Also corrosion consitute a failure item if it is likely to develop/disintegrate further with in three months of MOT.
Well its sorted now.
-
Lexus Bolton carried out the MOT.
their argument waa they did not make mistake in inspection and mot so this corrosion has happened after they sold the car. And they are sorting it out as a good will gesture. I asked them to send me an email that they will pay for it. Email has arrived.
-
Finally Lexus Bolton agreed to pay for the replacement middle section. Not the OEM part but a replacement from exhaust speciallist
I called the RRG group headoffice this morning and she could not be more helpful. I explained everything and she said she will take care of it.
I will update once its replaced next week.
Thank you for your suggestions. This forum is helpful.
Exhaust Backbox - IS250 - 57 Plate - pipe sleeve & bolts
in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club

Hello all
The exhaust backbox on my IS250 has come off the body and exhaust pipe (Y-section). It is due to corrosion between the pipe and backbox junction. I cannot afford just now to put a new y-section on, so trying to repair it by inserting an expanded pipe sleeve between the original pipe and backbox. Any recommendations on the pipe? I guess it has to be 45 deg bend pipe to go on between the pipe and backbox?
Also, does anybody know the bolt sizes or part number that hold the backbox to the car body via rubber brackets? How to source these out?
Any helpful suggestions be much appreciated
