This edition has a comparative test between the LC500, Bentley Continental, DB11 and BMW 850. Now, you might think that comparing £160K+ vehicles with sub-£100K ones is a bit silly but the LC does not come in last place. That honour goes to... well I'll let you guess.

They also have taken delivery of an RX LWB for long term testing. This should be interesting.

    458bhp in the latest cars.

  2. Quoted horsepower on the Lexus Europe and Lexus UK media websites for the new yellow V8 special edition: 464 DIN hp/ 457 bhp. So like the RCF, the LC500 V8 is suffering a marginal loss of power under the new European 6d emissions rules.

Waved goodbye to my RC yesterday as it left for a South Coast Lexus dealer to make a large profit at my expense so it's goodbye from me folks - expect it will be up for £35-36k next week😭

Thanks everyone who took the time to read my posts and offer advice👍

Enjoyed the 8 months/2400 miles ownership but unlikely to buy another if I'm being honest🙄

Sorry to end on a negative note but some things that spoiled my enjoyment were -

    1. Depreciation/difficulty selling - offers of £19k-29k on a mint 8 month old RC with 2k miles that cost £40k new (now £42k) is a joke! - when I sold my Discovery Sport with 7k miles (£40k new) after 9 months I got £35k

    2. Battery drain when parked up - dealer couldn't find/fix problem - happened last time after 2 days parked!

    3. Mirror Link system - never got it working and dealer/Lexus were useless

    4. Lack of lumbar support for passenger - SWMBO got back ache every time we went out so ended up only using it on my own

    5. Poor MPG - Did 100 miles yesterday in my Outlander PHEV starting with a full £1 Electric charge and achieved 45mpg (last tank was 133 mpg). I expected better than 30 which is all I got off last 2 tanks in RC

I did consider swapping RC and PHEV for an NX or RX but I've decided to stick with Mitsubishi - almost 2 years/17k miles faultless ownership and 83 mpg would be hard to give up. Paid £25k new after tax rebate and online car buyers are offering me £20-22k!

If Lexus build a PHEV I might be back but then again Toyota already do and it has a 5 year warranty like Mitsubishi - as Lexus will only give 3 years and will be twice the price maybe not🤔

    Shame. Such a beautiful car.

We get to hear more about it tomorrow.

Not sure this picture/colour does it any favours:

New 4 cylinder hybrid engine giving 215 hp, F Sport version available, 3.5 V6 available in some European countries but not in UK. On sale in Europe in September and in UK in January 2019.

Have to say it surprises me as well.

I thought their biggest market was the US who expect their V8’s to come with epic noise as standard & a lot of the US “F” cars also end up with after market exhausts as well.

Can’t help thinking Lexus deliberately designed the exhaust to be quiet/refined  and is a Japanese preference for some reason.

    Doesn't the V8 LC500 have a louder exhaust?

In absolute terms, not adjusting for price and age  - I tend to agree. But it is not better enough to justify £14000 price difference (in fact even more if comparing like for like SE-L with Premier ), if anything then IS300h is much better option for £10k (or £6000 difference).

There is no such thing as new GS - it is over, gone, discontinued, dead, replaced by ES. And for ES - there is nothing of substance to discuss yet., so inevitably that boils down into pointless (pre)assumptions, theories and opinion wars.

And on that note we (Linas included) await the formal unveiling of the ES later this month.

Yes it is, I mentioned that in the post with the pic I posted.

Dont know what people are on tbh - the Arteon is a brilliant car and so is the new A4, even in 190ps FWD 2.0l guise.

Most people don't care about FWD vs RWD, if you do, get a proper sports coupe.

There's no reason that Lexus can't drop the 3.5l Twin Turbo into the ES with an AWD setup and call it an ES-F

Agree the Arteon is a very good car. More spacious than an A5 and approaching it in terms of quality.

Also agree FWD is not an issue in regular driving.

  8. A few performance figures from the Australian PDrive You Tube site:

    0-60kmh/0-100kmh (62mph)/Standing 1/4 (sec)

    RCF  2.65/5.04/13.20

    GSF 2.63/5.08/13.24

    LC500h 2.97/5.56/14.03

    LC500 2.74/5.12/13.45

    M4 Competition 2.80/4.71/12.84

    F Type 400 Sport (V6) 2.69/4.96/13.25

    F Type SVR (V8) 2.06/3.82/11.90

    McLaren 570S Spyder 1.93/3.25/10.99

Yes, I agree.  My 10 year old 460 (which I've had for 9 years) has more safety kit than the +.  I've waited for something with equal or better safety spec to come along, and now it's here in a car with only 4 seats at the very top of the price range.  I don't think that Lexus understands UK motorists, nor the reasons that they would buy an LS.

I suspect it's going to be a Volvo S90 for me next, but I'm putting it off for as long as I can.

    It makes me sad.

    : o (

S90 T8 is a plug in hybrid with a 4 cylinder engine.  The Genesis G90 is probably the closest fit for your LS460 but it's not on sale in the UK.  Mercedes S500 is now a turbo charged straight 6 mild hybrid with 450 hp - BMW 750i still has a V8.

Aren't most of these big saloons now configured as 4 seaters - if you want more space you go for an SUV.

No you dont - its standard across the range and can get it on the base £73k one.

5.4s is hardly bad for a 2.4 tonne vehicle to 62mph.

Besides, Id love to see a rolling start between LS500h and RC-F - my bets are on the LS because that engine/gearbox combo has absolutely rapid in gear acceleration

The LS500H weighs between 2300 - 2400kg depending on the version. The RCF weighs around 1800kg and has around 100 more horsepower.

I can't therefore see how the LS could beat an RCF in a rolling race even with electric assistance. The figures just don't add up. But I may be wrong!!
