  1. Your right. 100% right. But you ever driven a modified car as a daily? 1. Unless it's sunny they are a pain to drive IMO. 2. Lowered cars scrape of everything, I literally refuse to go over speed bumps as I die a little inside when I hear that scraping noise. Plus if it snows lack of ground clearance makes them horrible to drive as your bumper becomes a snow plough. 3. I love the noise they make but manifolds, decats and exhausts even if not boomy on the motorway do make the car tiring when your not in the mood. 4. With the lowered ride height plus other mods like slight -ve camber make it tramline, thick arbs make it crashy, poly bushes don't help and the lowering on bad surfaces make it uncomfortable and again tiring. 5. An Evo or Impreza will slightly solve this but a 2 door without a decent boot makes taking anything a pain. 6. When you commuting to work and back and doing your biz there is nothing better than on your day off if it's sunny. To take the weekend car into the middle of nowhere and just hoon. Don't break the speed limit but go on roads that are tight and technical with the window open so you can hear your daft exhaust. It's the best. That way when you start up your weekend car you know it's going to be fun. You don't care about mpg's or anything at that point as you've earned it. I'm not comparing the gs450h to the arosa. Never was. The 330d seems to be a better option for me. It will average about 45mpg on a run and when remapped will have nearly 300bhp. Won't be as fast or sound as nice as the gs450h but the mpg I can live with. A car isn't perfect. But it might be perfect for someone with their need and wants at that time of their life.
  2. But you quoted yourself, I then answered you but you ignored that and quoted yourself again? Basically nothing lower than 40mpg on a run. Higher is better, but aesthetics and power equal higher mpg on the criteria. E.g. car 1 gets 55mpg but is ugly and slow, this is a good choice. Car 2 gets 45mpg but looks better is is much more powerful. This although getting lower mpg is also a good choice. I thought the gs would get around 40mpg on a run but I've been told it wouldn't therefore for myself it's a bad choice. Something that gets 30mpg over something that gets 50mpg will cost me an extra £730 over a year. price of fuel an average of £1 a litre. That is too much for me. Where as 40mpg vs 50mpg is only £272.77 a year. I can live with that. There is a much bigger difference than people are saying. If this was my only car I'd be able to live with that but as as a second car it doesn't work out for me to have 2 cars which aren't great on fuel. 40mpg is easily doable by most modern diesels that are pretty powerful. But the prius looks like it can do more. I really need to drive a prius to see if I will like it. I don't want to buy one get 55mpg but hate it. That wouldn't be any good. I might love it. Obviously I know now the gs won't do 40mpg which is a real shame as it would have been perfect. It ticked all the boxes.
  3. Hi thanks for not reading the thread but thanks for playing. What decision is made? I've driven the type r version of the that civic the fn2 and it honestly feels slow to me. Also my friend has the 1.8 vtec unit in his something -rv which albiet heavier is slow as hell. Thing with the fiddy is that in normal driving I don't take it above 2krpm and because of that the fuel consumption was really low. It's not 0-60 times, they honestly don't mean anything. It's in gear performance. E.g. the Nissan Leaf's 0-60 time is probably dreadful but it's actually decent when you floor it at 60mph it will still go and quite quickly too. Same with the fiddy it's "only" making 250nm by 1500rpm but thats more than enough at low revs. Please read my posts again I am not comparing the prius to gs in fuel consumption. I have a list of cars. The gs450h was at the top. I thought ok that will tick more boxes off therefore allowing me to get rid of more cars. Consolidation if you will. But I was hoping to get at least 40mpg rather than 30mpg. At 30mpg it's offering me nothing. I would want to drive other things at 30mpg. At 40mpg it's a fuel efficient good looking mile muncher. I used to drive a 1.4 Tdi Seat Arosa. A 1.4 PD diesel. Amazing on fuel, remapped to 100bhp and weighed under a ton. But it was needed more by someone else and I owe them so they can probably keep it. 1 car down. Now my leaf is going back in October time. So I'm back to 1 car. I prefer to have 2. 1 for commuting and 1 for weekend. Now the Nissan is at 30mpg can do the daily commute. Infact over summer I usually use that and give my mum my commuting car but I will be changing that for an Evo or Impreza later in the year. That will be tuned and will be my weekend and track car. These cars are evil on fuel though with low 20's driving sensibly and can be in single digits if your being daft hence the reason of the commuting car. At 40mpg I can live with that. I would have the power and it's decent on fuel. Also you guys seems to forget bigger cars generally cost more on insurance, tyres, tax and depreciation. But at 40mpg again I could live with that as I would intend to keep the car for 3-5 years. A Prius is better on fuel and does everything cheaper but it's ugly and a lot slower than the other things. That's fine though since it gets much better mpg. Basically I'd prefer to drive other things at 30mpg. Also I don't like diesels I really don't but they may be only compromise I can find between fuel efficiency and power. I studied the 335d and would prefer the 330d for a few reasons but with a remap it would be between 280-300bhp with a ton of torque and still average 40+mpg. Also e92's are look nice. The 2.2 cdti's are in the same boat. The clutch will disintegrate but when it does upgrade it and remap it you can easily 195+bhp and loads of torque plus the economy of the diesel. Now I know the prius is even cheaper to run than both of them but is it worth it for me to have 1/2 or 1/3 of the bhp that's what I need to find out. Plus it doesn't look as nice and although diesels suck I can't see it being as fun to drive. Please understand I'm not knocking lexus they are great cars. But the mpg benefit of the gs450h was the attraction not really anything else.
  4. Fantatsic. I've been looking quite hard at the prius. An e92 is much better looking but these Priuses seem to be bulletproof. Just a shame the gs450h will only get around 30ish.
  5. I get the way they will drive I currently drive a Nissan Leaf which is fully electric. What type of mpg would the 1.5 do roughly on the motorway and is it noisy?
  6. I don't live on or work on a motorway so it takes me 30mins to get to work in the day and about 25mins at night. You can cut the DPF out though? I found that bmw's are as you say but what is the other alternative. According to most people here I'm looking at 30ish mpg which isn't great. I was looking at a gen2 prius. According to their owners 50+mpg should be easily attainable. That was the reason I thought I would love the GS450h. I own a 3.5 v6 and it's so effortless and I also own an electric car and it's great and smooth. I thought put the 2 together and best car ever. But 30ish mpg isn't worth the time for me. As my non hybrid can get that fairly easily.
  7. I get that but I was hoping to get at least 35mpg maybe closer to 40mpg on a run. It 's not a lot of difference but there is a difference. Fuel prices are currently low but remember when they got up to nearly £1.50? Well for v power anyways but I don't see fuel staying so cheap for so long IMO. Wouldn't buy an fn3 in anything other than the 2.2 cdti which is on my list. Shame the clutches are like chocolate. My brother has an fn2 and it's not great on fuel although it is a larger engine. I still find his a little tiring to drive as you have the rev the crap out of it to go anywhere. He used to have a 1.6 ep2 and that was the worst! Reliable as hell but revving to 4krpm at 70mph was tiring and that was slow at least the fn2 is faster than those. I currently pay £20 a year for my unlimited supply of fuel. So I don't want to have to go back 30mpg for no reason. I actually looked at the CT200h but they are ugly and the ride isn't meant to be too nice. Interior is lovely. Does just seem like an expensive auris though. Yes of course, my dilemma was I know the prius will win in mpg hands down. But if a GS450h could do 35mpg or 40mpg on a long motorway run then I'd be happier in the Lex but being 30-35mpg WORSE than the prius is too much for me. If it was 15-20mpg worse than the prius I'd handle that. That is amazing! I recently sold my 1.4tdi Seat Arosa and that would be proud with figures like that. How slow is the 1.5 prius though? Is it slow slow or is it ok? I really like the prius but whenever I see how fast it is I just think ugh. I will maybe have to test drive one. Can I also ask what the best prius forum is as there are so many! I get that. Diesels can be fast but I really don't like diesels. They smell and I hate the noise they make plus I do find they need alot of maintenance. But they are getting much better mpg with a more powerful engine. My brother used to have a e46 330d and it was fine but I'm not sure how relaible the 335d or newer 330d engines are. My research continues!
  8. Awesome mate thank you I'll let you know if I'm up there at any point. I used to work in Stonehaven just last year so my mileage went down a fair bit from then! I was doing nealry 800miles a week but it's a lot less now thankfully. 16 miles each way plus a small trip elsewhere so usually about 35-40 miles a day. Plus I usually go to Glasgow once a month which is another 200miles. I don't see the point in wasting fuel for the sake of it. I prefer to drive cars that are generally more powerful as it saves them being trashed. I currently own 3 cars but would like to sell 2 and have it replaced by something decent sized, comfortable, reliable and have decent mpg. I have a car that I use purely on my days off and I don't mind the mpg on that but I don't see the point in wasting money (or more so) than needed for my commuting car.
  9. That's a shame. That is a very poor IMO. I could easily get 28-30mpg from my Nissan 3.5 v6 non hybrid. I might try to get a test drive in a gen4 as I've heard their mpg is slightly better. Well it's going to be a Toyota or e92 335d. Cheers.
  10. Hi John, Performance isn't just an indicator of that, a w220 s500 does it in 6.2seconds and it certainly is an old mans car. You say to expect 30-35mpg but what is normal driving?
  11. Hi guys, I'm new here. So I am looking for a new(read second hand lol) car in about October time. A long time I know but I really like to research my cars well. I don't really want a diesel for a few reasons and I am looking for something reliable and with decent MPG. With me being a Weeabo I want to stick to Japanese cars as IMO they are reliable and make good cars. The research has led me to 3 cars that interest me. 1. A Gen3 gs450h. 2. A Toyota Prius 1.5 and 3. Toyota Auris HSD 1.8. Well that's a range of cars and OBVIOUSLY the smaller cars will get better MPG. Well yes but how much better? Some people say the lexus will average 35mpg others say about 40mpg. There is too many variables I know but I was wondering if anyone near me could give me a lift in one to see the rough mpg round my town and too experience the car. I won't drive it and will happily pay for petrol money. My usual commute is about 16 miles mainly 70mph dual carriage way but about 25% town driving. Reasons to get the Lexus: 1. Gen3's are probably one of the best looking Lexus ever made IMO 2. Fast 3. Refined 4. Because of the bigger engine I would feel I wouldn't have to trash it much therefore getting better mpg Reasons NOT to get the Lexus 1. Other hybrids will get better mpg (to what extent I need to find out, as prius owners sometime say they get 40mpg and other get 70mpg. Who to believe?) 2. More complex therefore technically more to go wrong. 3. More expensive to run, fuel, tyres, tax etc et 4. Is it old manish? I don't know. Also I want to go hybrid due to me not having a drive any more as diesels do need regular maintenance. I currently drive a Leaf and want the quietness of an electric/hybrid car. Just to see if anyone can help me here. If anyone is around my area Dundee/Angus then please let me ride in your gs450h lol.
