  1. Don't want to tempt fate but my 2005 400h has just notched 160,000 miles and shows no signs of being anything else but a reliable daily driver. Just come back from Europe after a 2.5k mile trip - mostly cruising at 80mph and with the MPG indicator showing 32.8 - awesome! OK, some issues, parking brake cables seized, auxiliary power sockets gone dead and CD player died. Found that the cable ends had fossilised - probably because of non use - and fitted a pair of cables along with some new brake shoes, now ace again. The power sockets and CD player are on my to do list. My gut feeling is that this car will be capable of breezing past 250,00 miles without major problems and that is based on over 50 years of motoring in every thing from Austin sevens to modern Jags, and even Fords. Sorry no actual stats, just a feeling that tells you when you have a superbly made modern masterpiece of engineering. Oh by the way, anybody got a spare £60k? cos I'd buy a new RX tomorrow!
  2. Thanks PCM they (JAPEX) didn't reply after my initial request and no luck with any UK supplier. The cables are available in The US for a 2006 RX 400h but of course the US cars are LHD. Anybody know whether the rear parking brake cables are the same for LH and RH drive? I would have thought so because the yoke that they attach to is central but a positive answer from an expert would be nice before I spend around 100 $
  3. Hi abecketts, Had this problem with several cars although not noticed it in the Lexus as the big red thing in the sky is still sleeping in The UK. Got this tip from a police BMW motorway Cop and it works. Get a black bath towel, cheap in Tescos, and folded in two and spread over the dashboard top it cures the problem. You may find it slides about on cornering and needs weighting down with something up near the windscreen or you can use stick on valcro patches, available in Halfords, to anchor it more proffesionally or Lexus like. Cheers RXbod
  4. Update. Rock Auto have replied stating that these parts are not listed for UK market cars so I guess that's it. I'll just have to bite the bullet and pay the Lexus OEM price! Thanks for looking anyway folks
  5. Hi everybody, Just bought my first Lexus and am mightily impressed. Always driven SUV type vehicles, a couple of Shoguns , a Terrano, a Big Horn and most recently an X trail. Oh and My wife had a Range Rover a few years back. Early days yet but the RX seems in a different league, so smooth and so economic. I don't tow, just need loads of room in the back for the Dog and a vehicle that can negotiate rough tracks and the occasional field at Horsy events - the RX seems perfect for that and dashing through Europe on annual trips - the latter I am really excited about! Anyway, looking forward to reading the forum and making a contribution where I can. My background is engineering and main hobby is classic Car ownership and tinkering - not scared of getting my hands dirty, although hopefully won't have to do that with a Lexus. Will I?
  6. Just acquired a 2005 RX 400h - awesome drive - but it has a few issues. Main one is seized parking brake cables, tried freeing them off with penetration spray to no avail, so need new cables. Lexus main stealer has quoted £104 per cable! so I have looked on line. Rock Auto need about £33 each inclusive of shipping and tax which is very "encouraging" Rock Auto state that the cables are for RX 400H US/Canada spec. so would value members input before ordering. Anybody used these parts before? Is the quality OK and will they fit the UK spec RX400h ? Thanks in advance for response, appreciate it.
