  1. Hi Adomas I used a OEM Toyota/Lexus oil from Germany its made by Mannol their type 7709. Hope this is of use to you Cheers Ken
  2. Hi The car is a 2006 model and I tend to drive straight off ie no warm up,however this problem has only been there for about three weeks. Before that there was no problem Cheers Ken
  3. Hi guys Looks like an oil change is on the cards, thanks for your input. Just a quick question some one suggested diconnecting the battery to make the car "relearn" itself? Any thoughts on this ?? Cheers Ken
  4. Hi I appear to be having a small gearbox problem and could do with some advise. The following only occurs in the first half a mile of a cold start, the car will pull away from start normally and drive with no problems, however braking when I approach the first speed bump from my house or any other reason to slow right down, reapplying the power causes the gearbox to "scrabble" for a gear selecting 1st, then 2nd, before decding on 3rd this all happens in about 1-1.5 seconds, the car then carries on as mormal with no more indications of any fault (gear change silky smooth) Anybody got any clues, have been thinking about changing the oil,but not sure as this seems to be a grey area ? Cheers Ken
  5. Hi guys Just want to pick your brains (again)...just back from a visit to my local Lexus dealer, who as part of their service routine gave the car the once over. all they could find was one of the two rear exhaust boxes had a slight hole in it. They did give me a quote for replacement, but me being me I was wondering if any of you know a cheaper source than Lexus for the part........the car is a 2006 GS300 and the part appears to be a "Y" shaped section with two silencer boxes at the rear, looks its all one piece from the middle of the car...........I can find after market exhausts up to 2005 but nothing later, anybody got any ideas. P.S I have looked at stainless and am unsure, Cheers Ken
  6. Hi Michael Tried your method, it worked will use next time I do rear/hand brake. Cheers Ken
  7. Hi guys I know your going to think "idiot", thats simple ....but being a newby to Lexus, I am not up to speed on the ways of the car. Question one.......In order to adjust the handbrake, you obviously need the car in neutral and the handbrake off....simple you say!!...So I set the car in the aforementioned set up and try and get out of the car, the alarm starts emitting a low volume "screech" which will not stop until you either put car in park or put H/B on,........So.is there a secret to this maintenance operation ????(my previous car had special maintenance settings) Question two.....Having put up with the noise for half an hour managed to check and adjust H/B at the wheel, but still not happy with the amount of travel at pedal, so I have searched at the pedal, and under the car(as far as I can) and cannot find any other adjustment points........are there any, if so where are they located??? Cheers Ken
  8. Hi Carl Thanks for your comments, backing up Steves answer, I suspect I will have the initial problems with the staff as you describe, after all this is in the wilds of Cheshire. Off to apply for the card now, wish me luck, and I will report back. Cheers Ken
  9. Hi Steve Thanks for clearing up what at first sight appeared to be a problem, Cheers Ken
  10. Hi Let me start with an apology as I am sure somebody will tell me this is in the wrong section or something. Anyway, here we go, I was considering the gold membership and looking at the various discounts it has attached to it, worthwhile I thought?. Happened to be in Halfords later that day and asked the assistant how the 15% discount worked.....the initial blank stare said it all...........we only do one discount he said and that is for a cycle club, are you sure I queried ?...enter second assistant who verified that the cycle club is the only discount they give. Question, this a standard Halfords store in Congleton Cheshire and they are not aware of the discount scheme. Are some stores exempt from the discount scheme, if so which ones ? Cheers Ken
  11. Hi Guys Thanks for all your inputs, as of this morning (17/05/16) the problem seems to have resolved itself, with both mirrors dipping right down (have tried it several times to make sure) . Must have had some little Japanese electrical gremlin ? Regards Ken
  12. Hi John Thanks for that, does not sound like a very good security system if some one can drive you car away, a beeper and red light would not deter a thief, not that I ever get out and leave the engine running, it was a question from the wife .........so basically the answer appears to be ...yes you can !! Cheers Ken
  13. Hi Guys Having a spot of bother with the tilting mirrors when reversing. The drivers mirror does not tilt down far enough, I thought it was sticking, but with reverse selected I can manually lower the mirror so I know it not sticking........Question...can the mirrors be programmed as to how far they tilt ? if so,how do you do it ? Also a question posed by the wife ? If I exit the car with the key in my pocket and leave the engine running and someone else drives the car away ,will the car shut down/stop when it realises the key is not present? Cheers Ken
  14. Hi Guys A quick update, changed oil using OEM Toyota/Lexus oil , new filter ...................problem gone ! Me thinks somebody used the wrong oil ??.....Never trust a Merc garage !! Cheers Ken
  15. Hi Rob My thoughts were straying towards VVT. the car had just been serviced before I bought it, however when I rang the garage to find out what oil hed been used so that I could top up with same, after some hesitation the guy said "I will ring you back" it took six hours and he quoted what oil it should take not what they had used ?. So long story short...I am going to do an oil and filter change then I at least know whats in the sump and hopefully it may help/cure the problem. P.S Using OEM Toyota/Lexus oil 5w-30, unless anybody knows something better? Cheers Ken
  16. Hi Got a little problem was wondering if anybody else had come across it. If you start the car from cold (overnight standing) rev the ngine there is no unusual noise. However if you drive off and ask the car to pull hard (I have to, I live in a valley) there is a low note knocking noise, something like a big end noise but could be tappets or piston slap. It only lasts for about a mile after that it goes away and does not appear until next cold start. Anybody got any thoughts........the car is a 2006 GS300 with 133,000 miles on the clock. Cheers Ken
  17. Hi Phil Yes it is and its also water-tight.........thankfully Ken
  18. Hi Just thought I would add a quick update on my problem, after lot of detective work found the fuse, checked OK. Decided to check the motor, found it disconnected and the drive for the roof all chewed up. Had a look at cost of replacement.....Ouch!......looks like the roof will be out of action for some time. Ken
  19. Hi Mike Thanks for the welcome, hopefully as you say someone will know the answer. As suggested I have read the rules and as for any questions .....I wil only give name, rank and serial number !!! Regards Ken
  20. Hi Im a new boy to Lexus ownership and to this site, I was hoping that some of you guys could please point me in the right direction to a cure for a small problem I have with the car The car is a 2006 GS300 and the moon roof is dead ie when you press any button for the roof nothing happens, question where are the fuses for the roof ?,I understand there are more than one but the owners manual seems very vague about them So, fuse numbers and location would be helpful, also any hints on the problem if not fuse, ie how do you remove the overhead light unit to access the motor? If this subject has already been covered on the forum I apologise and can you direct me to it Cheers Ken
