Hi all,
I noticed that the driver side door marker light wasn't lighting when i got my IS this week. I got a bulb ready and popped the light out of the door only to find it's not actually conected to any wiring!!!! One of the receipts the previous owner handed over was for a job that their local Toyota dealer had done relating to the drivers interior door handle cable being replaced so i assume they've dissed the cabling to the light when they've had the door card off and forgot to re-attach it afterwards.
I've seen the posts regarding removing the door cards but they seem to relate to the upper door card. How do you remove the bottom section of door card?? If it's a pain in the backside i'll just put up with that light not working but thought i'd give it a go if it wasn't too hard.

Well typically me i changed my mind again just before i ordered the plates and went for a slightly different size.... In the end i went for 510mm wide by 140mm high. Slightly narrower than a standard plate but it just fills the space nicely all round.
And here they are attached yesterday after putting the reg transfer through.

lol i love digging up an old thread......
I have one of my washer jets that is not fully retracting when used.... It stays out about 4mm or 5mm. If you touch it and push a little it drops down. So i'm assuming as said above it might just need a little lubrication but how do you go about this???
Do you pull the washer up out of the bumper to grease it then push it back down??? Just wanted to ask as i'm afraid to do that in case i break it etc....

heres a snip from the mag
Other items – such as headlamp
bulb and unit incompatibility,
headlamp levelling devices and
illegal engine ‘chipping’ – will need
further thought before we can get
a workable solution for MOT
stations.
in other words we dont have a clue how we can inforce this!!!
Yeah that's what i thought myself..... People seem to be getting in a bit of a flap about it when it's still only in the early stages / brain storming area. :)

The best & most long running one for me was something people got for my last car, the Fabia vRS.
Somebody realised that the front splitter from the Leon Cupra R fitted the vRS's bumper with a couple of small 5 minutes alterations. The front splitter was a grand total of £25 or so to buy brand new from any Seat dealer but there was a company selling them on eBay for somewhere in the region of £40 plus about £7 or £8 postage!!!!!
They sold loads of them too when you checked the items sold figure too!!!!

Info from a thread on my other forum Briskoda.......
There are to be some changes to the MOT test from 1st January 2012 which are being introduced in response to European Commission Directive 2010/48/EU of the 5th July 2010 and which will effect those with aftermarket HID headlights and remapped ECUs:
4.1.4 Compliance with requirements:
(a) Lamp, emitted colour, position or intensity not in accordance with the requirements
B Products on lens or light source which obviously reduce light intensity or change emitted colour
(c Light source and lamp not compatible
4.1.5. Levelling devices (where mandatory):
(a) Device not operating.
B Manual device cannot be operated from driver’s seat.
4.1.6 Headlamp cleaning device (where mandatory):
Device not operating.
For anyone with a remap, section 6.1.9 may be relevant.
6.1.9 Engine performance:
(a) Control unit illegal modified.
B Illegal engine modification.
(by 'illegal', it is assumed that they mean changed/programmed differently from OEM specifications)
There will also be a new check on the general condition of the wiring:
4.11. Electrical wiring
(a) Wiring insecure or not adequately secured.
B Wiring deteriorated.
(c Damaged or deteriorated insulation
and on the function of airbag and seat belt pre-tensioner systems:
7.1.4. Safety belt Pre-tensioners:
Pre-tensioner obviously missing or not suitable with the vehicle.
7.1.5. Airbag:
(a) Airbags obviously missing or not suitable with the vehicle.
B Airbag obviously non-operative.
7.1.6. SRS Systems:
SRS MIL indicates any kind of failure of the system.
Some debate on another forum as to the definition of 'illegal engine modification' (undeclared re-map?) and
how the checks are made.
Bit more info on this........
For the true explanation for these changes, see page 8-9 "The Future of the MOT test" in the latest edition (No 48) of Vosa magazine 'Matters of testing'...... CLICKY

Sorry this took a while, just measured my rear plate and it's 12.5cm high - not sure what standard plate size is but I think this is only maybe 1 or 1.5cm bigger?
Cheers for that.... Is it the standard width?

Cheers for that that's exactly what i wanted. :winky: I have a two sets of the PY21W's that i've just taken off the current car that i'm trading in for the IS300 so i just need to get one pair of bulbs.

Apologies for digging up an old thread but i don't suppose you have a picture of what your custom sized plate looks like on the back have you.
I'm wanting to order a set of plates from Demon Plates but wanted to see what the size you ordered looks like when fitted to the back of the car.
Steve doesn't really come on here any more so thought I'd help out. I have the intermediate size plate, I remember when I bought the IS there were three sizes that dealers seemed to fit, a standard plate, a large plate (that almost fills the gap) and a medium sized plate (which is the one I have). Not sure on it's exact size but I'll measure it for you and let you know. Here's a pic:
Oooops I've just notices he's Banned..... :duh:
Your plate looks just about right It'd be much appreciated having the size. :winky:

I'm about to order some silver vision indicator bulbs for my 2004 IS300 but have some conflicting information as to the bulb types....
I found a list of bulb types used in the IS on here and that gives the front indicators as being a '582' and the rear indicators as being a '581'.
I've then been on Powerbulbs.com where i've always got my car bulbs from in the past and that says that both front and rear are a PY21W bulb.
Can someone please confirm which is right so i can get them ordered ready for when i pick the car up next week.
Cheers
Dave.

You're right that their "standard" custom plates aren't the right size. But if you phone up DemonPlates they'll be happy to make you up whatever size of plates you like.
The size that I got made for the rear is 510 x 150mm. This is slightly narrower than the gap and slightly shorter, but a fair bit taller than the standard plates. Looks fine to me.

Hi all,
Just a quick favour from anybody who has the larger rear number plate on their IS200 or 300. I'm just about to order my plates to put on the car when i get it and wanted to go for the larger sized rear plate that the IS'2 seem to have rather than a standard size rear plate.
Could someone have a measure of theirs and tell me if it's 535mm x 152mm in size.
Thanks alot.

The Millers Ecomax is about £13 from Halfords and will cover about 10 refills. That's £1.30 per tank so not exactly a fortune. Even a very small improvement would be worthwhile at today's fuel costs.
My point entirely. :D
When you consider the premium fuel costs around 4p or 5p a litre more and it's a 70 litre tank you would probably be putting, what, 60 litres in on an average fill up??? That's an extra £3 or so per tank where as the Millers style stuff does the same thing but for less than half the cost.
As i say i didn't realise Millers had got this new stuff out so will give it a try after i've done a couple of tanks without it on the IS when i get it. :)
Cheers
Dave.

I'm just going on the fact that without the millers sport 4 in my current car (and others in the owners club) the car does around 460-480 miles to a tank. With the millers sport 4 added the engine seems to run smoother (agreed this could all be in the mind) and more importantly i get approx 500-520 miles from a tank. There have been similar tests on the Briskoda forum which have actually had positive results for this product.
Before anybody says anything this wasn't a straight one tank after the other test but was built up over a couple of months and the two comparison tanks were done under very near equal conditions (Only difference would be the weather)..... My drive to work is approx 25 miles each way all motorway except approx a mile at each end. Cruise was used on each journey set to the same speed and there were no traffic issues on any of the journeys (all were clear runs at either 10pm or 6am). Also both tanks were used solely with this journey over and over again, the car wasn't used for other purposes during the periods in question.
The stuff in question is only the equivelent of putting super unleaded or diesel in the car rather than normal unleaded or diesel. It just works out cheaper than paying the extra at the pump. It turns out i've answered my own question in the end as upon looking at the Millers website for this post it appears they have just launched a new product for all petrol engines and another for all diesel engines rather than the older product that was designed mainly for the VAG euroIV PD engines. I'll get hold of some and have an experiment with the IS300 when i get her. :winky:
I guess the VAG PD engine users are just a lucky bunch. (Myself included as we will still have another Fabia vRS along with the Lexus).
Cheers
Dave.

So i take it from that, that there's nothing out there that works for these engines then?

Looking at getting some of these after last years dodgy weather. Living in a hilly city like Sheffield i was unable to even get the car off my side road a few times last year, (Wasn't an IS though). A colleague at work got some last year and he said they made the world of difference on his IS200. The day before it took him over an hour to get about a quarter of a mile down the road and back again but a couple of minutes the following day with the autosocks on when the roads were actually worse.
They may look daft but if it means me being able to get to work and back in the car rather than having to use my holidays or take an hour to two hour train journey and walk, (again like i had to do a couple of times last year), they'll do for me!!!!
Cheers
Dave.
