  1. I am having a small problem with the power steering on my IS200. The fault currently is too intermittent at the moment to bring to the attention of my Dealer but I wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem and found out what it was.

If I leave the car for a few hours with the front wheels anything but straight, when I restart teh car, after a few seconds there is a loud thump with a "vibration" transmitted through the steering coloum as the power steering pump "kicks in" This doesnt happen every time.

Alternatively when I start the car if I have to turn the wheels in teh first few seconds that the engine has been running the front wheels turn as if the tyres are on ice, ie there is no resistance. This has also happened twice when I was driving very slowly and turned on full lock into a parking space. When the car is running there is no problem. The steering fluid is fine and I can find no obvious leaks. I realise the car has speed sensative power steering but this doesnt seem right to me. Any thoughts???

  2. My 12 month old IS rattled in the mornings too, it was traced to theh wires/drain pipes from the sunroof, moving behind the trim on the A post.

As to comments re German cars, I have had 3 VWs and 2 Audis, the all rattled .......badly, in fact the IS is the best car in the ratle stakes I have owned in 12 years. I think it is getting to the stage where a rattle free car is a rarety, trim materials get cheaper steel gets thinner, is it any wonder?

  3. I have had Yokos on various cars before the IS. They are very soft and wear very quickly but the grip in the dry was fantastic. They also tend to be cheaper to fit. I have also had cars with Dunlop Sports. I have never been keen on these as I found the grip to be lacking. I am running Michelins at the moment which seem fine although they are noisier that the original Bridgestones the car came with from new

  4. I tried 35psi all round which is the higher speed rating, but found generally around town the fronts didnt "stick" as well as I would have liked, so I mixed and matched. At the moment 32psi in the front and 35psi in the back works well for me. My journey every day is a mix of A roads and Motorways and I rarely exceed 85 mph (no never officer) but if I drove at that speed for longer I would use 35psi all round.

  5. Mine are black, but can be sprayed body colour. Mine are made by Park Boy, and have a buzzer, lights and distance guage, overkill yes but with the reverse gear buzzer, the park buzzer and all the flashing lights its like a disco in there.

As I have said before I have used the Quanan system on my wifes car, and can honestly say it is a quality piece of kit, Dead easy to fit and to wire up. Works like a charm:cool:

  6. This is odd as since I had the new wheels my tyre wear is negligable! You will recall I scuffed the fronts out on mine in 10000 miles. When the new wheels were fitted the part worn rears were fitted to theh front and the new tyres on the back. In the last 4000 miles the fronts have worn 0.5mm Go figure. I now run with 32psi in the fronts and 35 psi in the rears, used to have 35psi all round. Dont know if that makes a difference

  7. For anyone who has time on their hands this weekend. A lot of postings refer to us "seeing"each other on the road and not knowing if that other IS is a members car.

Does anyone know how many IS 200/300s are on UK roads and how many members the club has, that should narrow down theh odds a bit.:?::lol::?:

  8. I have just renewed my Insurance, it came down to a toss up between Direct Line (cheapest) and Admiral ( loan car and for a small extra Premium a hire car so that if the car is for example stolen they will keep you on the road).

I went for Direct Line in the end as a loan car was not so important as I have the use of a second car if needs be and I am sure if the car is badly damaged Lexus might be persuaded to lend you a car whilst it was repairing your own, but I guess a lot would depend on your relationship with your dealer. I am sure thius is not guaranteed. If it is a 100% non fault accident then you can claim hire charges against the responsible party ( yes you guessed ,sounds like Lawyer talk, thats cause I am!!)

I didnt think Tescos provided a loan car whilst they repaired yours but I could be wrong. In the end Tesco was only £10 cheaper that Direct Line who were £40 cheaper than Admiral so I went in the middle. Thats really scientific isnt it!!

  9. Yup I had the exact same problem. First diagnosed as the pedal hitting the overmats, but I had "modified mats" apparently so that wasnt the problem??!!

I then had a new master cylinder fitted................ that didnt work, then they fitted a new clutch pedal assembly and that did the trick, so yes get it to your dealer. Tyhey didnt tell me what it was but I think it was a bearing on the pedal shaft or something

  10. I fitted chrome rings around my fog lights last week, and they have come unstuck!!! I have tried refitting using trim tape from Halfords but it is too thin. I really need to find 3M foam double sided acrylic tape to refix the rings but cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have a source or can recommend a supplier with an online shop (preferably)

    Thanks

  11. The best to get is something called an airflow Battery conditioner. You can get it from Demon Tweeks. It plugs to the mains and the car Battery and tops up the Battery as and when it calls for it.

It is safe and does not "overcharge" the Battery or degrade its condition. They cost about £40. A pal of mine uses one on his E Type which he only drives on high days and holidays. The Battery is always top notch when he needs the car.

    Check this:- http://www.unicornmotor.com/airflow__battery_conditioner.htm

  12. As I'm not really brilliant at this computer lark, can some one in simple words tell me how I add a photo to the left hand side of my postings I see I am supposed to add this to avatar (wasnt he in Lord of the Rings) How do I know if it is 150 pixels across as I dont want to be rude.
