  1. Hi All,

I am on to my next job on my SC430 to do list…having almost fixed the roof leak….

Both of my front safety belts feel cold and deep, almost wet when I put them on! I’m guessing this in not normal, so does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Thank you for any help or info.

    Philip

  2. Having read and re-read as many posts I could both from here and from America, I plucked up the courage to have a go at fixing the leak. I have attached some photos of what I did. I did clean up the silicon before putting all the tape on, the tape was only on there to allow the silicon to dry. I have checked it once since and it’s 95% better 😎 maybe I should have another check tonight?

I also took some trim off to see if I could find any other source to the leak.

  3. Hi All,

I am looking for wisdom and advice please...

I have had tell tale signs of a leak in the boot, water of the cover that sits under the roof when the roof is in the boot (Please see photos)

The boot liner is wet right above where the third break light sits and I have read that this is a problem area for roof leaks, and you need to take off the boot cover, take off the brake light and re-seal and put everything back together.

So how do I get the clips off? (Please see photo) Do I just try and pull them off? Then what do I seal the brake light with and where do I seal it? All around the edge, or just at the back?

Thank you in  advance for any help or ideas.

    Philip

    Hi Phil H

Welcome to Lexus Owners Club and for help you have come to the right place!

If you are buying from a Lexus dealer or an independent garage you would, of course have some comeback depending on the problem.

If you don't feel confident to appraise the vehicle you are looking at then perhaps using the AA or an independent inspector would be a wise move.

You could ask the seller if they would mind if the nearest Lexus dealership did a healthcheck before you make a decision.

Many people believe that a full Lexus service history is a must to ensure its pedigree. I reckon it is certainly desirable but a strong regular history shows its been looked after.

You could also consider are its tyres all the same reputable brand, also is there a sticker or entry in the service book which confirms its had cambelt change.

Checks like, are all dash warning lights working and do they all go out when it is started up.

Check the roof operation to affirm the mechanism and all the motors are working correctly.

Look for signs of water ingress into the passenger cabin or boot.

Does the sat nav and head unit all work properly.

Corrosion can also be an issue depending how it has been used and looked after

Despite all the above, they are a fantastic car and I have enjoyed every minute I have owned one!

    Kind regards, Anthony

Hi Antony. In answer to your questions...

Full Lexus service history  ---- The car has been serviced every year at Lexus main dealer apart from the last two years.

There a sticker or entry in the service book which confirms its had cambelt change ---- There is a sticker - 2016 from memory.

Checks like, are all dash warning lights working and do they all go out when it is started up ----- No lights at all on start up.

Check the roof operation to affirm the mechanism and all the motors are working correctly ---- All good thankfully. If it didn't work well, I would not have bought it. I had problems with my IS250C roof.

Look for signs of water ingress into the passenger cabin or boot --- I have got a leak in the boot, will be starting a new chat on that very soon.

Does the sat nav and head unit all work properly --- All good, though I will be looking to replace it with a more modern unit.

Corrosion can also be an issue depending how it has been used and looked after ---  A few spots on the roof.

Despite all the above, they are a fantastic car and I have enjoyed every minute I have owned one! --- I am loving every minute of it and enjoy it so much more than the John Cooper works convertible that I had before it.

Thank you for you help and questions.

    Hi Philip

Yes it looks a beautiful car, so much that they must be women! I know mine is contrary so that would fit (but don't tell the Mrs).

Don't worry about asking questions we have all done that and some like me never stop! 😆

There is a UK handbook on for sale on ebay but it appears to be in poor condition and its £30!. Perhaps one of the company's who advertise they are breaking SC's have a handbook pack, may be worth messaging them.

    Regards, Anthony

Thanks Antony. I can find out what I need from on line manuals, but it would be nice to have a real paper one.

So….my first question is…what are the two brown lines in the middle of the front windscreen for? They go from top to bottom of the screen.

    Looks a nice car Philip.

You need to do something with those peashooters😉😉

They don’t look original so doubt original tips would fit on them🤔🤔

I can live with the “peashooters” for the time being…. 😂🤣 I might wait till I have to do something with the exhaust then sort it all out.

    It is beautiful Philip.

What sort of warranty did the Seller give you ?

I only got one month. He’s a small dealer. The car has been serviced every year, all at Lexus but the last two. I have about 6 years of receipts for all worked carried out. I just need to keep at eye on the expansion tank and or radiator, in the next month, as that’s my only concern. The car has 119,000 miles which I am told is nothing for these cars. It’s an 06 on the cheaper tax!

it’s booked into Lexus Hatfield for a free health check next Monday.

  8. I have been to see the car. Great service history, serviced every year, main dealer until 2021. Everything I tried worked, a part from the electric aerial. Coolant level was below minimum! I looked underneath the car and it looked ok. On the short test drive, it drove ok. Body work was good, a part from a large number of stone chips on the bonnet!

I need to decide today as to whether I buy it or walk a way from it.

  9. Sorry but I have another question, though I think I know the answer….

I have found an SC430, 2006 so I need to see if it’s cheap tax. It has full service history, all Lexus a part from the last two services.

My question is…the car has 119,000 miles on it. Can these engines cope with high miles if well looked after. Do I need to make sure that the cam belt and water pump have been done? If not how much would that cost?

Anything else to look out for?

Thanks in advance for your help and answers. I am hoping to go and see the car this week.

    Kind regards

    Philip

  10. Hi all. I am thinking of buying an sc430, but would like to ask about roof reliability. A few years ago I had an IS250C and had a number of roof problems, roof not opening or refusing to close for two or three different reasons. Which has LED to me being nervous about buying an older Lexus convertible.

Anything else that I need to look for?

Thank you for any advice and replies

    Philip

  11. Hi Ahmed,

I have had similar problems. I fond that it was a sensor that was playing up. A good garage should be able to track down the sensor and replace it.

I also found that one of the arms that lifts the roof, that some of the teeth on two of the gogs had broken, and then I got the same error message. See page one of this topic and you will see some of the things that happened to my car.

Having the same issue. Here in California

Top goes down then won't go up. Did anybody replace the switch? I ordered one from ebay but I don't think I can install myself

Hi Aaron, In the end it was a small motor and gog part, with a broken off tooth. Managed to get the whole arm replacement from a breakers and fitted it myself, it all seems good to me now. Hope that helps
