  1. Morning all,

I was washing the car this morning and noticed, for the first time, some “hazy” patches on the roof of the car. We bought it new in November 2017.

You can just about see them in the photos - most seem to be in a line along the centre of the roof aligned to the GPS aerial.

The car has only ever been washed by hand, never parked under trees and has had no paint repairs. As far as I can recall, we’ve always washed off bird poop swiftly. And the pattern looks too straight for that.

I’m aware that the paint warranty is only 3 years but I still think I should approach the dealer as to my mind, there’s a strong chance that this is some sort of defect.

    What do you think?

  2. This pictures look very nice indeed.

Halving owned the car for 3.5 years, my two bugbears remain. The infotainment and the gearbox. If the RAV4 is anything to go by, the gearbox has been sorted for this platform and so bodes well for the next NX. And the infotainment can now be ignored due to the inclusion of CarPlay (yes, I know there’s an aftermarket solution too).

    So, looking good!

  3. I reckon it’ll have the updated and slightly more powerful hybrid power train from the RAV4 which the journos seem to rate more than the old one (which was the NX has to this day) as well as the PHEV option which also seems to be a very well regarded newcomer. The latter has a total output of 302bhp but some very heavy batteries to drag up the motorway when the electrons have been used up.

I wonder how Lexus marketing will square that when they've been selling the idea that self-charging is superior to the better options of plug-in hybrid or full electric. 🤔

To be honest, Toyota did the same and have just launched the RAV4 PHEV and no-one’s batted and eyelid. It’s a natural progression.

    Hello,

My wife picked up her lovely NX 300h Premier in metallic black (Graphite?) yesterday afternoon from Lexus Woodford. MY17 but then the financial and extras incentives from the excellent dealer team was difficult to ignore. And the 17/18 differences are few and irrelevant to a couple of middle-aged party goers! :wink3:

Couldn't be more pleased after about 100 miles in it so far, at 44mpg including a shed load of traffic coming home in the rush hour from Woodford. Loving so far:

    • It looks the dog's danglies.
    • The MPG. Was expecting late 30s but there's time to destroy that yet.
    • The gadgets. Especially the 360 camera. The alloys might survive a certain person's "touch parking" strategy.
    • The stereo. Oh my giddy aunt, what a sound. The best bit thus far.
    • The serenity. Smooth and easy to drive. It really encourages a more laid back approach.
    • It's not a diesel. And that's from a family whose every car since 1994 has been a diesel.
    • It's not German or a JLR product. Which makes it different and "not one of the sheep" in image-conscious Shenfield.
    • The headlights. They turn night into day, even compared to the xenon lights on an Audi.

We haven't even begun to explore the gadgets yet so will definitely be back with some questions for you Lexus geniuses very soon!

    Cheers

    Simon

Well, 3 years on from this post.....

The car’s had it’s MOT, had covered about 37k miles and has been absolutely faultless in operation. The only thing that has needed attention was the very beginning of corrosion near the centre caps of all 4 alloy wheels. I can only assume that a screwdriver had been used (at the dealer - the only place the wheels have come off) to prize off the caps. They were replaced at 35 months without question.

Apart from that, we really do think we made an excellent choice 3 years ago. I go a new VW Golf recently - the quality feels poor compared to the three year old Lexus. There’s “something” that feels well engineered and solid about the Lexus. A great start to what will probably be a very long relationship.

Anyone on here actually purchased and fitted one of these?

If so, was it fairly straightforward and was any import duty payable?

Just picked up my brand new Lexus NX200h today.

Drive from dealer (in Hatfield) to home was about 15 miles

didn't go on motorway or A1,

Car indicated an mpg of 46.2mpg, far better than I expected and better than the 37.6 showing on Lexus website

    Don't you mean 300h? 😀

Don't forget to take around 10% off for the over-optimistic mpg computer. But still good. Anything approaching a real 40mpg is excellent.

My fuel light came on a few days ago and the countdown to empty was monitored. I wanted to try premium unleaded fuel, so let it go as far as I dare. When the 'Refuel now' warning came on I headed for the garage.

My maths calculations was telling me that at 40mpg I should get just short of 500 miles from a full to empty tank and I had only done 400 miles. At the garage on a level surface I managed to squeeze in 47.3 litres. I could not get any more in! As the tank is supposed to hold 56 litres I potentially had another 8 litres spare.

So in future will I trust my maths, or the car display? A physcological battle between me and the car will ensue!

I've always thought that the range indicator is hugely pessimistic. I've never managed to get more than 48 litres in despite running well past zero in many occasions. I admit to not having looked it up but I thought that the tank capacity was 50 litres, based on the car's behaviour?

My  nx300h 69 reg ,  all driving in the city ,408miles now, but below 25mpg.  What is wrong with my car?

I'd give it another couple of thousand miles to run in before worrying about fuel consumption.

But ours has never been that low - city driving tends to give mid to late 30's.

And don't forget it's winter. Batteries don't like the cold and the engine will fire up more often - especially from a cold start - which murders fuel consumption.

  10. I got a Golf GTD on a lease as a substitute for a company car this summer. I use it for work and long drives up North on the motorway and I get within 5% of the new WLTP figure. In town it gets nowhere near.

We use the NX locally where we can and we pretty much get the new WLTP figure, but not on the motorway.

Each drive train has its strengths. Although everywhere, the Lexus is the most relaxing drive by a HUGE margin. And with the electric motor, it's way quicker and smoother off the mark in town compared to the Golf with its emissions strangled engine and hesitant auto gearbox.

There was an anomoly in the quoted figures in the NX brochures last year - if you compare the two, one was c. 57mpg and the current brochure reads c.37mpg. The latter seems very accurate - I think the former was a mistake. Which figure are you working to?

I wonder if this is the EU NEDC figure (the older, wildly optimistic regime) vs the new WLTP figures for 2019 and onwards? WLTP mpg figures are much closer to real world experiences as they're actually derived from road-based testing.

With the latter, I'd also imagine that it would be easier to get close to the figures in a hybrid where you have a slightly higher element of town and A-road driving where the NX seems to be at its best in terms of mpg.

This is where I purchased it from (there are two versions depending if you have sat nav installed on your Lexus or not).

They had a $100 discount when I ordered (it was $499)

    Costs:
    £436 = ($499 in GBP)
    £110 = Import Duty
    £135 = Installation Charge

    £681

Lexus Newcastle only do authorised Lexus work but they recommended the Auto Electricians they use for outsourced work.

Thanks. I've just found it on the UK site, looks really good.

Is it the actual CarPlay mirroring or identical phone mirroring and you see all icons on screen that are on your phone?

Can you control the phone functions through the Lexus screen with the touchpad/mouse?

And did you have to buy the extra cable as well as the core unit?

    And......are you happy with it?

    Thanks!!

  13. Well, we've had ours just over two years from new now and the average tends to be 37/38 displayed. That's from about 32k miles in that two year period.

That is massively skewed to motorway driving, not the best scenario for fuel consumption, I'll admit.

On A roads, N roads in France and urban driving it easily beats 40mpg, our best tankful being 46mpg in France away from the autoroute.

I find it makes no difference whatsover in Eco/Normal/Sport, so I leave it in Normal.

  14. Geoff, I don't imagine that you'll damage either the Garmin or the car by using the aux connector but I would imagine that nothing will happen. It's possible that you may get to hear the satnav audio through the car system if you selected the aux input on the audio screen, but you probably wouldn't then be able to listen to anything else.

As a guess, I'd say the Garmin's Bluetooth capability is so that you can use it in a car that doesn't have it and connect to a phone for handsfree use. You could try and pair it and seen what happens - again, I can't imagine how it would break anything.

  15. I've just acquired a new Golf (the NX is Mrs EG's car) with apple Car Play and Android Auto. Leaving aside the fact that the Golf's interface is in a different league to the NX's (albeit I'm not a touchscreen fan), being able to use something like Waze or Google Maps for free makes a mockery of the general lack of smartphone mirroring in any UK Lexus except for the refreshed RX just launched. Hopefully our next Lexus will have caught up and have this feature.

I've only used the Golf's native satnav once and it too knocks the Lexus maps out of the park - but I'm sure the legitimate updates are just as expensive.

Yes you can its in the settings on the speedo not the media display. You can turn it right down, I can't remember what it's called but it's obvious when you get there. Mine is down to the lowest and its good.

Is this only on the 2018 model? I had a trawl through mine (2017 Premier) - no cigar. Unless it's my searching skills.

Found the option to turn off the tailgate opening entirely though, so not an entirely lost 10 minutes.

  17. We'll be going down the Cross Climates route in the next couple of months. We go to the Alps 2 or 3 times a winter. Historically, I've always had a second set of wheels with winters on but this time I'm going to avoid the hassle. The CCs are properly winter certified and have excellent reviews. I also want to avoid the likelihood of minor damage from the fitters every time they remove/fit wheels. Our Lexus dealer is too far away (and pretty much in London) to use them every time for this.

It means taking our factory fitted summer tyres off early. I'm amazed at how slowly they're wearing - 17k on them and the fronts look about half worn. Astonishing.

  18. In terms of obvious omissions on the car - yep agree, wiper on reverse. Also a heated windscreen wouldn't have been too much to ask? Now that Ford's patent has expired everything from a Golf upwards seems to have them and I want one!

And dealers. Audi - ignored. 20 minutes and not even a "Hello". Volvo - lovely service but they couldn't supply a petrol XC60 to drive. And the hybrid was £58k!!!!
