Hello all. Had the car in for MOT inspection and it failed on front brakes not balanced, over 20% difference.

I changed the front calipers ,hoses and master cylinder. I took it back and it passed but there is still some imbalance, to much for my liking.

The rears are more or less identical on balance.

I used a vacuum blender with the peddle slightly pressed and removed ABS fuses as Tech stream advised.

Any ideas? Could there still be air in the system? Peddle feels firm so I think master cylinder is bled ok.

    I also bled rear brakes.

Wow, that's a lot of work, especially the master cylinder.  You didn't mention what I would consider easy things:  pads and discs.  What are they like?

What are the caliper slide pins like: sliding freely?

Had my 10year old Rx450h now for a year, so lexus warranty now finished.

Absolutely faultless for 7000 miles except for a type pressure sensor failing so very pleased with it now I’ve got used to it.

On 64000 miles now so servicing myself , have changed oil / filter ,front and rear transmission fluids etc. which were suprisingly easy.

Really just leaving a spark plug change which does not look too easy.

I would be grateful for any tips from people who’ve successfully done it.

    Thanks

What is the service interval for plugs and front & rear transmission fluid?

I'm quite relaxed about leaving the plugs longer if it is running well and fuel consumption is fine.  What's the worst that can happen?

  3. I ordered the update from satnavishop on Monday. The usb stick arrived on Wednesday.  The activation key arrived by email on Wednesday. I installed it on Wednesday afternoon. Full instructions were provided by satnavishop.

It was an absolute doddle! No more complicated than tuning the radio or setting up Bluetooth phone connection!

I would not hesitate to recommend satnavishop for future upgrades: great service and MUCH cheaper than the Lexus dealer.

Sorry for delay in replying. Previously I had aRx400 and like you say The disc player ( I believe it was 6) was in the boot. The 2013 Rx 450 uses the single cd unit

in the dash and takes the dealer about 2hours to load the full 5 discs.. Lexus Nottingham had to see my vehicle to ensure they ordered correct version, I do not think the usb stick option is

available on early Rx 450's. At least I was not offered it.

    Hope that helps

Do you have a usb socket in your centre arm rest?

  5. I went to my nearest Lexus dealer yesterday so they could examine my car and work out how to update the maps.  Here is what they told me:

    1) I need to buy a set of 5 discs + serial number.  The part code of this item is PZ445-HD334-0Z.  The discs are updated every 2 years. The latest discs were released in Apr 2022 and the next discs are due in Apr 2024.

    2) In order to install the maps, a passcode or activation code is needed, and this can only be obtained by someone with the relevant computer software (ie a dealer).

    3) The price for the latest discs Is £234.25, and they will install them for free.

    4) They openly told me to feel free to search for another supplier of the discs (at cheaper cost), but if I managed to buy them cheaper, I'd still need to go to the dealer to get them installed.   If I do this, they will charge me for half an hour of labour,  which is £90, but they would want the car for a whole day.

I have since searched the internet for this part code and found an interesting website here:  https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/toyota-gen7-11hdd-sat-nav-map-update-europe-2023-1030-p.asp

It seems to be offering everything needed, including activation code for £60.  I have sent them an enquiry to check it is what I need, and how to actually install  the update.

Has anybody here used this website, or any other 3rd party supplier of map updates?

  6. I have a double Z pattern, one from each side.  In fact, they were not level until yesterday.  I finally got around to adjusting the high one down, but I think it is now a little low.  I probably should have adjusted one up and one down to meet in the middle.

Since there are two dip beam headlights on each side, I suspect that one is the high side of the Z and the other is the low side.

When AFS is turned on, I think that only one part of the beam moves on corners.  This makes me think that only one of the two lights on each side of the car responds to the AFS system.

  7. Thanks a lot Colin.

From your photos, I can identify mine as LED.

Intrigued about the situation for driving abroad.  I noticed that you said they are "considered" flat, so need no correction.  I would say that on my old rx400h the beams were actually flat, but on my Rx450h,  they are definitely higher on the LHS.  The beam shape is flat in two steps:

Starting From the left it is flat, but then there is a step down to a lower level on the right.

Here the Lexus link with FAQs

Lexus Link Connected Services | Lexus Europe

Thanks for your reply.  There's a lot to take in from that page, but I don't know how much is relevant to a 2012 car.  The page says that it applies to the following cars:

Lexus Link Connected Services are available with the following Lexus cars:

    • Cars with OE DCM:

    • New UX (from October 2018 production on)
    • New ES (from October 2019 production on)

    • Cars with VC DCM:

    • New RX (from September 2019 production on)
    • New NX (from November 2019 production on)
  9. I have a couple of questions about the headlamps on my 2012 facelift RX450h:

    1) I don't know what sort of lights they are.  The handbook mentions discharge lights (if fitted), but I don't know if mine has them fitted.  How would I know if they are discharge lights?  If they are not discharge lights, would they be LEDs?

The appearance of the lights is that each side has two globe-shaped lights that illuminate for dipped beam.  The Main beam is clearly a halogen-type bulb that I can see in the inner-most reflectors.

    2) I know that AFS makes the dipped beams turn left and turn right on corners, but I wonder if it makes them automatically lift at higher speeds to illuminate the road further ahead.  Does anybody know?  I don't think I've noticed the beams do this.

    3) I am wondering if I need to do something to adjust the beams for driving in France.  The shape of the beams looks a bit like a Z shape, so they are higher at the left hand side.  I imagine that this means I have to do something, but I don't know what.  The handbook does not seem to mention it at all.
Do I need stick on beam deflectors?  Or is there another way to remove the kick up on the left hand side?
I gather from other discussions that AFS needs to be turned off in France. Why is this?  Is it illegal in France?

If anybody knows about these matters, I'd love to hear from you.

  10. Looks like I'm resurrecting this old thread!

Trying to get connected services to work on my 2012 rx450h facelift model and have some queries:

    1) my phone is an Android. A post higher up this thread suggests checking with Lexus to see if my phone is compatible,  but I can't find a relevant page on the Lexus site. Does anybody know where this is?

    2) There is mention above of a DUN app for mobile phones.  Is thus just for use on phones that are incompatible?  Or does the app serve any other purpose?

3)The car wanted to know a "dial number" (among other things).  Does this mean that when the car wants to access online data, the connected mobile phone makes a phone call? I'm on the Lebara network and when I called Lebara today for some support,  they couldn't give me a dial number. Does anybody know if a dial number is available for Lebara?

    4) is there an alternative way to connect my car to online services? For instance, is there a software update that introduces alternative functionality?

    5) Had anybody here ever had connected services working, or still using it now?

I'm almost certain that it's for the USA and not the UK/EU markets.

'Connected Services' does such things as automatically calling the emegrency services if you're involved in a collision and suchlike.

The set up screen for connected services requires the country to be picked from a list.  The list includes European countries,  including UK.

  12. When setting a destination on the navigation system on my 2012 facelifted rx450h, there is an option for "online search".

To make this work it seems from the manual that I need to set up something called "connected services".  To get this working, I need to enter some settings into the car for my mobile phone provider including the following:

Username, Password, APN, DNS1, DNS2, dial number and script.

My understanding of how this system works is that it uses Bluetooth to connect the car to the phone, then it uses the mobile data connection of my mobile phone provider.

Has anybody got this system working?

I had the maps (5 Discs) updated on my 2013 Rx450 in early June with latest version 10/2020 cost £205.

Where exactly do the discs go? I know that the rx400h had a CD disc in the boot for sat nav, but I thought that the rx450h had moved away from CDs.

Mine is a 2012 facelift rx450h and I "THINK" it has no CD for sat nav, and believe that the maps are updated with a usb stick.

The online manual seems to be saying that I can update the map myself

    1) purchase the map on the Lexus website

    2) download the map to my pc, then copy it to a usb stick.

    3) plug the usb stick into the car and copy it onto the car.

Trouble is, I'm getting stuck at step 1.  Lexus Cheltenham told me that they MUST SEE THE CAR in order to work out how it updates. This seems crazy: they must be able to check my vehicle details remotely to see what equipment it is fitted with! Then they will quote me for supply and install of map updates.
