Continuing my crusade against motoring journalists who don't know how a car works, I see Auto Express also defines a CVT as a belt or chain and pulleys system and lumps in the Lexus IS 300H and Toyota Prius in this explanation.

I happened across this review of the impressive LS500H in a new online magazine Motor 1. The writer puts in a bit about how the drive system in this no doubt well-engineered car works . “Behind the scenes, there is a pulley system, with cones at each pulley, all connected by a chain belt. Both cones can move closer together or further away, always finding the perfect ratio that balances speed and fuel efficiency.” The writer must have Googled “CVT”
