  1. I've had an occasional problem with loss of power when accelerating hard in 2nd gear for some time now, but it's only every few weeks, so I haven't bothered about it. Yesterday the engine appeared to be "mis-firing" when climbing a hill in 6th at around 60mph. I don't think a diesel can "mis-fire" as such, can it ? I'm going to use a diesel injector cleaner as a first step.

Climbing a hill at 60 MPH in 6th, you must be joking, what were the engine revs ?, my car doesn't like 6th until at least 80 MPH on the level or down hill :crybaby:

  2. Inspect the VRV for an open circuit.

Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.

    Resistance:

    11.1 to 12.5 Ω at 20°C (68°F)

    Inspect VRV operation.

Check that air flows from port E to G.

Apply battery voltage across the terminals.

Check that air flows from port E to the filter.

    Hi Fonserg

thanks for the info., but what is the item, is it supposed to be running and what's it for ?

Is it causing any more damage if I don't get it sorted?

    thanks again nottonto

  3. Hi

there's a small black plastic component on the top of my engine above the turbo, it looks like some kind of pump as it has two small diameter rubber pipes onto it, one on a fitting marked "out" and one on "vac", I presume it's a vacuum pump for something, there's quite a few small diameter pipes leading about the engine, the reason I'm asking is that recently I have noticed it running when I come to a stop with the engine running, I've only recently noticed it so I'm worried something is happening that shouldn't be.

    could anyone please enlighten me?

    thanks in anticipation nottonto

  4. Hi everyone/anyone

I have a 58 plate 220D with 30000 miles on the clock, just out of warranty by 2 months.

The engine has started making a whirring noise when it's warmed-up, when it started a few weeks ago I wasn't concerned because I thought it was the electric fan running to cool the engine but when I checked the fans weren't running. It isn't noticeable when driving, only when I stop and the car is on tick-over.

The noise seems to be coming from the top of the engine above the turbo, there are a few components fitted to the top of the engine but I don't know what they are.

I'm now a bit worried in case I'm doing any damage if I drive the car, there aren't any extra indicator lights on the dash.

Does anyone know what it might be ?

    Any help gratefully received

  5. The passenger side was the difficult part. The washer tank gets in the way and it's a pain to get a screw driver in there to undo the clip.

But generally once off it's the same process to get back on. Fairly simple bar the one setback.

I tried doing mine the other day but it kept blowing the fuse. It was Micro Red 10 Fuse. When I contacted the LED company about this they said its a common problem and basically I need to replace the fuse with a greater strength one like a 20! Did anyone else have to do this?

    Hi

I think the "LED company" are telling you porkies, LED bulbs use less power so if anything you could reduce the fuse size, are you sure you haven't trapped a wire or something similar ?

  6. The fogs are coloured inside the lenses......you'll have to go thru the painfull process of removing the foglight clusters (by peeling back the inner wheel arch liner and going in thru the back). Then separate the lens from the cluster by the oven method....

Then rub the inside of the lens down with progressively finer wet n dry paper until you've removed the yellow film.

Interesting tho.....in the US, they have clear fogs on the IS300 and are all clamouring for our yellow tinted fogs!

Get yourself a HID kit and replace it with the fogs. Like so:

You might be able to remove the yellow film using paint stripper,it worked for me

  7. Hi everyone

sorry to come back to this topic but I've searched all the other posts and replies to no avail.

my remote locking has suddenly stopped working,I've checked the doors are all shut, the ignition lock clicks when the key is removed,I don't think the ecu want re-programming as the remote locking sometimes works,my car has been parked in the same place without trouble for 3 yrs.so I don't think its interference.I've read all I can find on this site but nobody seems to have come-up with an answer to my problem, help please, has anyone got anything new to try?

    :duh:

  8. I have a T reg (99) IS 200 with 74k on the clock and it judders when i pull away in first gear and can somethimes be difficult to get into gear.

    Is this a common problem?

Does this mean i need to repalce my clutch?

If so does anyone know any good garages in North London / Hertfordshire?

    Thanks

Hi it seems that most IS200's do it,especially on low revs, give it some more revs for a smoother blast-off B)

  9. Hi, I wonder if anyone has had this problem with is200 audio unit...I get sound after switching on cd/radio,but after about 5 minutes the system mutes itself, there is still power to the unit as the cd counter is still going up or radio station is still showing but no sound at all, turn off unit and leave for a couple of minutes, try again and sound is back, but only lasts a minute or so, then mutes again !!!!! driving me nuts ......Help..

Sounds like you have a faulty solder on a circuitboard, when it's cold you got a connetion, but as the temprature rises the component rises from the circuitboard and make the sound dissapear. .. but it's just an idea.. :)

    Hi

do you know that the radio/cd is guaranteed for 5 yrs?

Take it to your lical dealer.
