Apologies to resurrect a very old thread but my 2006 LS460 has recently started having this exact same issue as yours. Some excellent info from Peter in this thread but before I go chasing issues with time/money I am trying to get answers from UK owners who have actually cracked it. Did you manage to fix it or did it go away? Cheers

Hi, I never got to the bottom of it, but I sold the car a little over a year ago so I can't be of any help I'm afraid.

as an aside, come MOT time I'm thinking the TPMS light on is NOT an MOT Fail as it's only post 2012 that relates to  ......  no use right now tho', sorry

    That's interesting, thanks!

The car was taken to the garage and they were a bit stumped initially because their machine was showing all 5 wheels reporting pressures, temperatures etc but the car was still throwing a fault. They connected the OBD reader to it and the fault cleared itself. It was as if the reader told the car the pressures and the car was like "oh yeah, it's OK!" and it's been fine ever since.

    Many thanks.

  3. So my TPMS warning light came on the other day asking me to get it looked at by a dealer. Same thing happened about 1 year ago, had 4 TPMS batteries replaced (all, bar the spare) and all was well. This time it wasn't reporting any pressures, so I held in the reset light under the dash and it read pressures for all tyres except for the spare. After 30mins of driving (ish) the error light came back on.Friend of mine took the wheel away, used a checker and sure enough, Battery dead. He replaced the Battery and the wheel it back in the boot.

I have pressed the reset light, the dash says TPMS resetting....and then the error just comes straight back. Any thoughts as to why it won't go away? Does it need resetting with a diagnostics thing?

    Cheers.

Mine's a Ls400 so will probably be different size to yours !

    Just measure the existing ?

I generally go for the simplest cheapest functional rubbers these days as they will be ok for another year I'm sure

The last set of brilliant Lexus / Toyota Main Dealer supplied rubbers weren't of the same quality as in earlier times .  previously a set lasted 3/4 years and 30/40k miles ..  the last set I bought from the Main Dealer only lasted a year ...  they dumbed down on quality methinks but still, unjustifiably,  charged a huge premium quality price

Ah. Yeah I have measured them and they're 600mm/480mm (give or take) yet looking online that seems to be a rare combination to find!

  5. Interesting thread, I haven't read it all but I have an LS460. It's had a few minor issues but absolutely nothing remotely expensive. Only had it since November 2019 and it hasn't let me down (yet!). I read about the gearbox/radiator problem and had a new OEM radiator fitted out of precaution. Other than that, and general servicing I have had to replace 1 wheel bearing and I had to get the ride height sensors removed and thoroughly cleaned because at times the car was a bit "wonky" with its ride height, but that is now resolved and didn't require new parts.

Overall it has been a very good car. There is always a risk of bigger bills with more complex cars, but the additional performance over an LS400 is very significant, coupled with (slightly) better economy and more creature comforts available (especially now I have a GROM unit fitted - I have full Android integration) means that, for me, those risks are worth it. The way I see it, I bought the car outright, it isn't really depreciating, and the monthly payments on a new car lease deal would easily pay for any unexpected servicing costs on the LS460, and I am driving an LS460 instead of some dreary 1.4L diesel hatchback or whatever.

  6. Friend of mine runs a garage, I asked him for some new wiper blades, and when he went to fit them he said one was the right size and the other was too small, he didn't have a tape measure on him so asked me to measure mine. I have just done so and the driver's appears to be 600mm or so, and the passenger around 480mm. Yet, looking online, many appear to offer pairs of 600/400mm? What gives? Do people on here buy them individually, or as pairs? If pairs, where from!?

    Many thanks

  7. On both of my previous BMW 7 series there have been a "hidden" menu to access various bits of information when driving such as oil temperature, coolant temperature and various other things. I was just curious if there was something similar for the LS460? For the E65 745i I had to get the ignition on, press and hold the trip reset button for around 10 seconds and then enter the last few digits of the VIN if I recall.

    Many thanks!

  8. Thanks everyone. I'm not put off by the cost as such, if the system fails I'll almost certainly replace with the Lexus air set up as it left the factory. I was just curious as to whether it is worth changing it just to refresh the car, but I think I'll leave the money in the bank should it fail in the future.

I can't say I've noticed a particularly bouncy ride and it recently had a service and MOT and nothing got picked up there so assume all is well.....?!

  9. Obviously traditional springs and dampers degrade over time and are not as good as when new. Is the same true of air suspension, and is it to the same sort of extent as a traditional set up? I have heard some people say that the degradation is minimal and only if it becomes an issue with regards to wheel alignment is it a problem, otherwise it isn't far off how it was when it left the factory.....but when it does fail, it properly fails! Only reason I ask if that I am half tempted to spend some cash on the car and was wondering whether a suspension rebuild was something remotely worthwhile, but I've been told not to bother until it fails. I remember when I had an old BMW 745i (2004 car) I had all the springs and dampers changed, as well as bushes, control arms etc) after 2 struts were leaking (I decided I may as well do the whole lot) and the difference was pretty significant, but so was the difference to my bank balance  Or should I just keep saving the cash for when a rainy day does come for the car?

    Cheers!

First generation direct injection engines use an aluminium for the fuel lines/rails/pumps that can corrode when in contact with high concentrations of Ethanol. It causes a gel to form and pitting of the metal. Later vehicles use a different grade/coated aluminium.

Water in the fuel can avoid this, however the fuel suppliers have to keep the concentration of water in E10 fuel at low levels to avoid other problems.

Thanks for your reply. It seems, for now, E5 fuel is a little tricky to find, but I managed to put in 53L of E5 97 yesterday, and from a full tank it was only a similar amount of E10, so should be quite diluted by now.

  11. Does anyone know if there are tangible benefits into running RON97 or 99 fuel on the '460 vs regular 95? Or is the car not "clever" enough to make use of it? I drove 290 miles in the LS460 today (what a magnificent motorway car!!) and despite pressing on at times the economy wasn't too bad at all. Managed to put in 53 litres of RON97 (Tesco were out of Momentum 99) so that will certainly dilute the E10 95 that was in there from last Friday.

I have been doing a lot of short trips in the car lately so it was a real pleasure to give it a proper run out. It is probably the best long-distance car I have ever been in or driven.
