  1. Following several trips to the "doctor" I now run 37 front 35 rear on my SX. I was getting excessive outer wear on my front tyres which so far seems to have been cured by full geometry check (recommended ++) and this pressure combination. however as you say there are lots of opinions on the subject  :winky:

will it make any difference with yours being a Sportscross??

Would have thought not - only slightly more weight over the rear - which makes for even better handling :winky:

  2. Well done a bit of searching through the forum..

    http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...opics&hl=&st=50

There seems to be no concensus regarding tyre pressures.

Looked at both the maual and the door piller sticker.  Door piller advised 3 Bar, which I thought was a bit excessive, so I went got 2.6 f / 2.7 r (about 38 psi)

What do most stick in their IS300..

I have about 1000 miles or so to do in the next week and a bit, so didnt want to get it too wrong :)

  3. Took my Sportcross down to Watford today - and what a difference! Now that the geometry and wheel alignment has been sorted by a real enthusiast the car feels MUCH better. Tony took the best part of 2 hours to expertly get the right balance of geometry to both improve handling and reduce uneven tyre wear.

At my last service (9K miles ago) the dealer put on new front tyres and did a "full geometry". Yet there's already inner wear on both tyres. This has been sorted today so hopefully I'll get a decent life out of these tyres - so recouping the cost (and then some).

The big difference has come in the handling - the car "sits down" much better under acceleration and really flies round corners - sooooooooo much more fun - had a smile on my face all the way home :D

If you live anywhere near Watford or are just passing I'd recommend a visit.

  4. Also with pwr on with the Autobox,it should be Keener to downshift under part throttle.

    Cheers chips.

Those two buttons are only available on the auto box ............

Just make sure you hit the right one. When I first got my car I hit the wrong one when attempting a quick entry onto a dual carriageway - very embarassing :crybaby:

  5. My SX came with 215 front and 225 rear and the manual implies that's the correct combination.

So should I change to the same size, and will it improve the handling?

NO!... if your SX came with 215 front and 225 rear, We need to find out why before any advice is given, can you show the exact wording from the manual.

The manual says (page 273 onwards):

    Specifications (IS300) Tires and wheels (Type A) front 215/45ZR17 rear 225/45ZR17 (TypeB) 215/45ZR17 (Sedan:Type C) 205/55 R16 89V (Sportcross:Type C) 205/55 R16 89V

It then goes on (helpfully) to suggest that rotation of 215/225 combination is not a good idea. BTW my car is MY2002.

  6. The rear tyres on my Sportcross are in need of replacement - after some research on this site I've decided to get some P Zeros. But what will be the result of then having Bridgestone Potenzas on the front and P Zeros on the rear?

I hope it won't be a problem but am looking for an expert opinion.

The fronts were changed at the last service (8K miles ago) and having more grip on the front totally screwed the handling so I'm looking forward to redressing the balance. My plan is to replace the fronts with P Zeros when worn (although nearside is already showing neven wear on outer edge.

  7. I've been enjoying my IS300 SC for 3 months now and am well pleased with it in every way except for one:

An annoying groan/clonking noise that's coming from the rear of the car. It's only occasionally there, sometimes on cornering, sometimes accelerating or braking. To be honest in any other car I'd probably just put up with it, but the quality of the rest of the car kinda raises your expectations.

Any ideas? Could it just be the extra bulk of the "estate" flexing??

And before anyone asks - no there's nothing moving around in the boot :whistling:

  8. Hello everyone

Today I bought a 2002 IS300 Sportcross that I absolutely delighted with :D - what a car! A huge step up in class from my modded Saab 9-3.

Anyway I'd like to fit my Motorola V50 car kit into the Lexus and am looking for some help. I'm not at all bothered about it linking in with the radio (dealer advised that this often "messes up the electrics"). Can anyone tell me where to take a feed from - my guess would be somewhere behind the glovebox? And are there any mounting brackets available for the IS?

    Thanks in advance
