  1. My wife had a 1.8 petrol automatic Verso in 2015. Smooth and quiet, but fuel economy comparable to a RX450h! I have a friend who had the 1.6d (BMW engine) and he sold it early due to lack of power and issues with the engine, so I would go for the 2.0l diesel.

Fuel is a highly visible cost, but depreciation and garage costs much less visible. Sometimes marginal fuel savings can be quickly negated by these larger "hidden" costs.

  2. The RX is more than fast enough for my needs, and I've never felt short. However keep in mind, although labelled AWD, it's really FWD. The majority of the power when accelerating hard will go to the front wheels as it has a physical connection to the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). The rear axle is an electric motor that helps out. In short if you accelerate hard off in wet slippery conditions, expect the front wheels to break traction. The rear axle will give you, at slower speeds, a hand push out of a muddy field.

If you are a fast driver I think you are going to be disappointed with the driving dynamics. It's a heavy car, with weight placed high. It will get up to speed, but it's not the sort of car that wants to be hustled down a road. Capable, but not a drivers car. It's at home making progress and wafting around, not racing around. If you want to drive fast you'd be better served by an estate car etc.

Tempted to put GEOLANDAR CV G058 on for the summer and get a proper set of winters for the winter as I am not sure these perform as well on the snow as anticipated but they look good for wet and dry grip.

I’ve only had them a couple of months (so summer use) and so far I am happy with them with no real compromise over a summer.  No winter testing yet. Having on previous cars run two sets of alloys one with summer and winter, I expect that the winter performance won’t be as good as dedicated tyre.

  4. So the 20” Yokohama Geolanders where fitted to my RX450h today.

You should remember I am comparing old worn Bridgestone Duellers with new Yokohama Geolanders. It’s hardly a fair comparison. On other cars I’ve fitted Michelin Cross Climates as I prefer an all round tyre, rather than one more focused for summer. I needed a tyre that can cope with living a rural location, the occasional muddy field and farm track, and the British winter countryside without too much of a compromise on the motorway and town. Noise, comfort and safety are important to me, not Nürburgring track times!

I’ve only done a dozen or so miles, but initially I am really impressed. I was concerned that the Duellers are rated at 69db and the Geolanders are 71db, but to me the Geolanders are quieter. Perhaps tyres get noisier with wear, but I am impressed with their quietness. The ride is a better, less minor road vibration. I had thought the car needed a geometry check as I wasn’t happy with the steering response, but that’s now all resolved. Again this could be due to worn tyres. Overall I am impressed, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. They’re marked with mud and snow, and deeply grooved and sipped, but not the three peaks symbol ( a more demanding criteria for snow).

Initially, very happy with the purchase and happy to recommend.

    Hi all

i am considering buying the rx450h takumi pack Lexus but I asked the sales guy if Lexus do a retractable tow bar option and he said they did but now I find out they only do a detachable tow bar.

Am I correct that Lexus do not offer a retractable electronic tow bar option?

It's only detachable not retractable. Best to get it fitted from new, otherwise it's very expensive.

    Hi Nigel,

I believe you have removed the fuse for the panoramic roof and i hoped you could tell me where it is located.  I thought I had found it under the bonnet but it was the fuse for the roof blind only, that would have been too easy!

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Brian

If my memory serves me correctly...

Look under the passenger glove compartment there is fuse box, and it's cleared marked a S/Roof.

Or you could do as I did on my journey a couple of weeks ago, just put some electrical tape over the moon roof button to remind you not to press it.

  7. I've regular use a roof bars and a box with my RX450h with panaromic with no issues. I always remove the fuse for the sunroof so I can't accidentally open it as the roof bars could obstruct. I am also very careful with loading the bars and box so as not hit the glass, and not to overload the roofbox. I've not had any issues, and I am aware of other who do the same. I've taken the risk and had no issues, but it's your risk.

I've just fitted the new Yokahoma Geolander CV508 to my series 4,
.I'll report back once I've driven them for a while. We have Cross Climates on my wife's Fiat 500 and I had them on my Series 3 RX450h. Hoping that they will be comparable.

I would be very interested to hear how you get on. Are these just for winter or do you intend to have them on all year?

I don't really fancy buying and storing a set of 20" tyres and rims!
