    Do you have access to your service book or manual. Under oil/top up there might be a small section explaining how much is acceptable to lose every 1000 miles.

    I've had more than one car now (at least 2 were Subarus 3.0L Spec B petrol) that came with a little card explaining that I could lose x amount over 1000 miles. Hence a good idea keeping an eye on the levels and also investigating how much oil loss is acceptable.

    Might be it's a few 100ml of oil short so at certain angles/times it's sending the low oil signals up. Hope you get it sorted (I know I'd be tempted to check the oil and if at the low mark/tolerance level when cold, to just top it up by a smidgen).

     

    *Smidgen being 200 to 300ml.

    I checked the dipstick this morning and yeh it's low so will top up a litre 🙂

    I guess it can be an oil level sensor fault. Take a picture and try to chase Lexus for warranty repair:)

     

    I asked Lexus about this issue and they told me that if nothing is on display when the car was with them then no fault... 

    Yes first time it was disappeared in a few seconds but today it took at least 5 minutes to disappear.

    I will check the engine oil level tomorrow before starting the engine and will chase it with the local Lexus.

    Two weeks ago I got a message on the dash that the engine oil is low it was like a prompt and then vanished and I didn't pay any attention but today I got this message again and was there for longer time that the engine oil is low, now two and half months to go for my annual service and I don't drive it a lot so kinda confuse what's happening? has anyone had this thing too? any advice is sincerely appreciated 🙂

    I've been looking into this, I believe the Lexus list of affected models is correct and therefore the RC F isn't vulnerable - it is different to the RC. Whilst it does have CAN bus connected headlights, they are on a different CAN bus from the Smart Key/Certification ECU and therefore you cannot inject signals to fool it into thinking the key has unlocked the vehicle.

    Some initial thinking was there was a vulnerability on either the body ECU or gateway ECU which is allowing communication between two buses but all the listed affected vehicles have the headlight ECU directly connected to the same bus as the vehicle's Smart Key/Certification ECU which then unlocks the doors and communicates with the security ECU to turn off the alarm.

    Certainly this is the case up to MY18 models, I've not seen diagrams for MY19 onwards yet but I doubt it was changed.

    Agree, as with 5 attempts on my car none of them could open the car despite the fact I have an 18 carbon edition one. RCF models should be fine!

    2018 carbon package, only once as couldn't steal it they did a nasty scratch from the passenger side to the fuel tank very nasty one the other 4 times just they unlodge the bumper screws and as they couldn't steal left it that way.

    I don't know mate about the pre 08/17 list but mine is 2018 so...

    Unless you don't mind the approx £1000 ferry return to Santander or Bilbao - both great towns to stay for a couple of nights.

Stopping and lunch options are aplenty and better than the autoroute, though to be fair French services aren't bad. Also, when touring in my Alvis, stressful at 100km/h, or TR4, happy enough at 130 km/h but too bloody noisy, the autoroutes are just unpleasant, despite being typically quiet when I use them. North to South no other sensible option unless you are very flush with time and happy to overnight.

    Having tried various options I generally use Apple Maps but as far as I'm aware, they all have an 'avoid tolls option' . From Calais to where you're visiting would take around 3 hours more if you avoid the autoroutes (probably difficult to do completely) but saves a chunk of wad. Only you can decide the cost/benefit of the reduced journey time. The Ulys navigation app and ViaMichelin will give you péage costs.

    Thanks for the link, the Google Maps app has an option to turn off the toll meaning it will divert you from the routes which have tolls. I was wondering if it actually works as some below mentioned the speed camera option will automatically turn off in the app once we enter France. 

    Have you used any app that has a toll-off option?

I was flashed in kind of stupid place also - so it was unlimited speed where I was doing like 230-240, then on long downhill there was a sign for 130, I noticed the sign and let-off (I never brake, only let off and let the car slow down), then 100m later another sign 110 and 25m later bunch of speed cameras. So when I let off it dropped to maybe 180 before the speed cameras. Then probably another 200m later it is unlimited speed again. So looked literally like deliberate speed trap for sole purpose of flashing people.

    Not sure what were the fines in Germany back in 2016 (I know since then they have increased them), but I can't imagine it would be small for 70 over. 

    Unbelievable they set up people for speed traps to grab some cash.

But the fines were 3 years ago and I have acquired the car 6 months ago, so I was good to go. And that was the same trip when I got flashed in France twice and also once in Germany and never got any fines from either.

    Either change the car or put different plate on it. 

    Lucky escape lol well best is to drive sensibly and not risking a fine when there are speeding cameras.

Which is kind of double edge sword - so you don't have to pay them, but if you go back few years later and you have several big fines they may stop you and impound the car. But it has to be many and big fines for them to bother, they won't be chasing you for 1 fine for 12 Euros. 

    That could be an advantage of Brexit that we shouldn't bother paying🤣

    And this is not some sort of "stereotype" from Top Gear or something - they really do not care about cosmetics of the car, they certainly would not be able to comprehend "detailing".

On the positive side (depending on your perspective) you will never get French fines. I have been flashed few times last year and haven't received anything (not sure why, to be honest as I wasn't going that fast, I think once 77 in 70). Also in my previous car on my way out of France and into Belgium I have forgotten I am not in Germany yet and definitely been flashed twice for speed (this was in like 2016) and never got any fines either.  

    That is quite good way of looking at it - because in France they don't have modified cars they are actually quite amused of seeing them. And unless something is dangerous or ridiculous it is more of positive attention, not in a way of trying to punish you (even if they could, which for most mods they can't). 

    Glad to know you didn't get any fines via post but are you saying you were flashed twice for using a navigator or speed? 🙂

    I heard a neat summary from an expat that explained why the French are so keen on having lots of rules. It means they can feel good about themselves and their independent spirit when they break a law. They also get a thrill of righteous indignation when someone else breaks the same law.

    Leaving Belgium, the police attention was high due to the event we were at and we had no issues.

    Bar the obvious (speeding and being an ASBO in built up areas), which I'm assuming you don't, you'll be fine, trust me.

    Germany also not an issue, it is more relaxed than France in a sense that you can certify mod on your car, rather than needed national certification of each mod for each car model. Not sure about Switzerland, but again - the strictest country in Europe is France when it comes to car modifications, it only get's better after that.

    Yes - France does not allow unauthorised/uncertified modifications. Down to things like wheels - you just can't put aftermarket wheels on car unless they are specifically model certified. The way it is dealt with is via similar process as MOT in UK i.e. if you take modified car without certification it will simply fail. However, when it comes to foreign cars France would rely on country of origin to inspect the cars. So if you car has MOT in UK, then it is good to go - it is none of French business what is modified on your car, it is not for them that are certifying it. 

    As long as your car is somewhat road legal they not going to pick on modification. By "somewhat" I mean no stupid camber, no flames shooting out of the bonnet and similar. For them to take action your car would have to be obviously unsafe for public roads.

    In short their rules do not apply for cars registered in UK and just visiting, expect of things like tyre thread depth which you have to comply when visiting. My assumption would be that exhaust should not exceed certain noise levels as well, but possibility of you being pulled over for that is non-existent... unless you stop in front of police and start revving the engine.

    I reckon going to Paris will be problematic?

    I doubt that you'll be wanting Sport+ when on the autoroute as you won't need the additional responsiveness and the sound might get a bit tiresome at 130k+ hour after hour. In towns, normal mode, or even heaven forbid granny mode if congested. Up in the hills on some 'interesting' roads Sport+ would be fun. The only potential issue there is not scaring cyclists (this is taken very seriously and a requirement to leave at least 1.5m clear when passing) and you may find a lot of them on the interesting roads.

    I haven't been over that way in a few years but some Departements have a non-autoroute speed limit of 80 km/h. Not where I am thankfully, though a bit further south it applies, I'm lucky as I'm allowed to roll at 90 km/h. Things can get really exciting! I was caught speeding in my 1947 Alvis once 🤣

    Thanks, yes I will drive sensibly and can I use the Google map App for navigation I heard French police won't like Apps that show speed cameras? Or it's just a fib.

    I believe similar rules are applied in the UK who, allegedly, also have roadside noise tests from time to time. French aggravation is definitely more aggravating so best avoided.

    If the vehicle isn't silly and obviously loud, driven sensibly then, if it was me, I'd enjoy a great blast down to the Auvergne and search out some interesting routes for when you're there. YMMV.

    The spec of my car attracts lots of attention regardless of the exhaust anyway, yes it is loud and I don't like revving on streets and all that but yeh on the motorway Sport+ mode and paddle shifters do give me shivers 😄 and I do enjoy it honestly!

    On daily basis I drive on normal mode which is okay for me or my ears are used to it now 🤣
