.....but according to Lexus UK, this did not effect RX models destined for EU Countries nor the UK.  How can that be given there's no difference to RX models, only to the standards by which each country operates for safety?

The answer it seems is that issues were limited to some "batches"  with the anti collision/BSM equipment and on pedestrian safety testing, so the article wasn't being fully honest as not all vehicles nor vehicle years of those models were affected.  I was assured that all models being imported into the UK are fully compliant and that there is no issues with the electronic safety aids for UK customers.

But this affected loads of Toyota models hence the huge financial hit. I wonder how much we're actually told? For example United Health Care own PKB being promoted via the NHS. In February in the USA they reported a data breach possibly affecting up to a third of all Americans! But no mention of the UK?

  2.

This hasn't received much attention other than a 15B hit to Toyota value

    From Fortune magazine

"Through an internal investigation prompted by a regulator mandate, Toyota found it had not performed safety tests as certification required in five cases related to vehicles including the Crown, Corolla, and the Yaris Cross. In one case involving the Lexus RX, the company had submitted falsified data to meet safety standards and submitted it for certification."

  3. Good morning 😊

Can anyone reccomend a decent key case? I use one but it's rather bulky. In winter not a problem as you tend to have lots of pockets but come the summer that's different. Needs : 1 x Lexus key, 2 x house keys.

    Thanks

The video was interesting but I like to look at the comments as well. It seemed a bit butt clinching to use steel wool or wire wool as we call it but the comments seem to be favourable. 000 or 0000 grade. Not sure if that's sold here or not. I was wondering if using the soap pads that we use for pans etc would work. Glass is hydrophobic but the rainx is supposed to make it bead off faster.

    0000 no coarser 🙂

Ive seen a lot of threads on this topic.
Ive just purchased a new 12v starter battery for our RX450h 2019 from Lexus. In fact its badged as a Toyota the Part number is L28800-YZZZA for the sum of £121.99 in Vat.
You can for this yourself from within the boot. However please note:
If the boot is a power boot it will not shut after changing the 12v battery, without manually applying pressure on the boot lid and closing ,manually. The auto open options both on the key and within the car will not operate as you will have an yellow warning on the dash “PKSB” Parking Support Break Function none operational (car symbol with a star above tailgate and a triangular object behind the tailgate).

If this happens then close the boot manually with care and take the car for a 2/5min drive and it will clear which will re-enable all the boot operational functions.

You may have other personal preferences in the car set-up to also re-set to default however simply re-set as you prefer. Alternatively try to keep a 12v supply to the vehicle while you change the 12v Battery.

Ohh additionally i read that Lexus only offer a 1yr warranty, however on purchase i was advised it has 3yrs.

    Hope this helps.

Great tip, lexus parts direct are also competitive

Thanks , True but the price for the next service of approx £700 has made me think twice!

As always depends on ones attitude towards risk. I pay £54 pm for an extended warranty plus cover which I believe to be an affordable "insurance like" cover. March 2025 will tell me how good my bet was. The major service is a big pill to swallow but iridium plugs won't need another change for years so £1300 ish will give you cover for say two years unless something untowards happens in year two. Irrespective the HHC is a must have.

Had my 10year old Rx450h now for a year, so lexus warranty now finished.

Absolutely faultless for 7000 miles except for a type pressure sensor failing so very pleased with it now I’ve got used to it.

On 64000 miles now so servicing myself , have changed oil / filter ,front and rear transmission fluids etc. which were suprisingly easy.

Really just leaving a spark plug change which does not look too easy.

I would be grateful for any tips from people who’ve successfully done it.

    Thanks

Extended Warranty Plus is still available to you. And the £59 hybrid check covers your Battery for one year.

Of course getting customers on to PCP or HP plans is a good earner for dealers.  So it’s prevalent industry wide.

When I was buying my Lexus I made it clear that I didn’t require any financing. However, that didn’t stop a staff member elbowing the sales rep aside to ask if he could introduce me to their Purchase Plan.  I said he could do that provided he clearly understood that I wasn’t going to use it

So we then had a perfectly affable fifteen minutes or so - right up to the point where he tried to close the sale and I said ‘No’.  His attitude then became distinctly icy and I had to remind him that I had made my position very clear from the start.

I haven’t seen him again and I accept that it can be a tough way to make a living.  My criticism is not that he tried, but that he was somewhat unpleasant when he failed - as he had been warned would happen.  Every other member of staff I’ve encountered has been exemplary.

Sack the salesman I say 👏, what a waste of everyone's time and money! Yet another example of demonstrating misguided language claiming you are an entity referred to as a "customer" when in fact you are an impediment to their goals or a problem in other words!

    Hi folks.

Got a mate with a 1.8 CT on an 11 plate with pushing 100k on it.  He’s had it a long time but for the last couple of years it’s started using about 2 litres per 1000 miles of proper 0/20 oil.  No leaks or smoke.  Before I delve into it, is this a common issue on this engine?  A search is bringing up anything but useful information.

Take a look at Terraclean, I had my XKR done a few years ago and it definitely lowered my emissions for the MOT.

    Hi Phil.

Can you tell me a little more please about the rear trailing arms issue you had and just what was wrong..

Was it the bushings that needed changing as if they changed them under warranty that is good to know.

Yes Brian, when I bought the car from Lexus Newcastle driving it back there was a noise from the rear bit like old bed springs! Derby identified it as delamination of bushes in the rear trailing arm assembly a very expensive fix that Newcastle should have covered under dealer warranty. After some backwards and forwards between Derby and Newcastle someone covered the cost not sure who but it was not me 😎

For the 10 year plus extended warranty to remain valid the car must be serviced by a Lexus dealer according to the service schedule (annually or 10k miles whichever comes first). If a service is skipped then the warranty will become invalid. Also the service includes the hybrid health check and this only lasts one year or 10k miles whichever comes first, although this could be renewed annually by having it done separately to the service for around £70 - but the invalidiy of the extended warranty would still be an issue.

Quite correct Phil, had I needed a full service I would not have bothered but intermediate is acceptable. I have paid for a HHC last week which means that I have one in hand for 25/26. As this will be the 15th year I don't think Extended plus will be available so my decisions will be made for me.

I couldn't agree more with you Phil, a full-blown service is in my view simply not necessary, and I have to say my Lexus dealer agreed with me. In theory, and according to age, it should have had a 60K service with just under 11k on the clock! Last time around we agreed an intermediate service, especially so because it had a full service at something like 5K miles followed by 2 intermediate services. In reality, it has had 6 oil changes over 11k miles, new filter each time, new air filters twice etc. I'll make a judgement call come July this year, but this car has had far more services than is necessary.

Totally agree with you Brian, alongside the sensational Relax iniative it's time Lexus /Toyota introduced a service interval more attuned to today's ideals of, sustainability, waste reduction, reduced cost of consumption etc etc

  14. Well it's been almost 3 years since I bought my RX and I have to say it's been a joy to own. It's been covered by a 3 year extended warranty and service package by Lexus Derby who have been absolutely fine. The warranty has been called upon three times, internal movement sensor, air con condenser and rear trailing arms. This more than justified the warranty investment. So based on this experience I have bought a one year Extended Plus Warranty payable in ten installments admin via TWG as usual. But at 93k and 13 years old it seems a a sensible risk as it represents £45 a month cost of ownership which I can well live with. But I have held back on renewing a service agreement as it offered an intermediate followed by a full? I just couldn't see the justication for a full service after say 3000 miles, throwing away iridium plugs for example! I welcome LOC thoughts?

The UK is in a recession as someone else has posted so I’m not going to get anywhere near to the settlement figure.

had phoned Lexus finance last year and they told me I could hand the car back penalty free after the halfway point (time) of the agreement, realise now he meant halfway through the value.

got a visa to emigrate that’ll expire in August of this year, won’t reach the halfway point of paying the car off until June 2025.

with the private sale option only going to get worse I’ve got the two options of giving Lexus around 5k which I sorely need or abandoning the long held desire to go and live abroad and stay in the UK for life.

yes read the small print etc but this is the first car I’ve bought on PCP so wasn’t familiar with how it all worked but being misadvised by that halfwit made me think I was in the clear so I applied for the visa.

    Absolutely gutted.

sob story aside appreciate the comments and kind words about the car lol.

You may also look at martyn lewia and current chat about car interest payments being bigger than PPI!

I was at an auction some years ago and there was a mint 3 year old Aston Martin Vantage. I spoke to a dealer about it and they said they were going to bid for it up to £ 45k - very low price as a very risky buy as it didn’t have a V5. I watched the auction and the bids stalled at £ 48k and then someone on the internet bought for £ 49k. Saw the dealer a few weeks later and he said he was so wrong about the car. The reason the car didn’t have a V5 was that the personal plate had been taken off and DVLA hadn’t yet issued a replacement V5. The buyer on the internet had somehow (police contact maybe) found out that the personal plate and car were registered to Buckingham Palace and he sold the car within a week for £ 80k !

I put a personal plate on a new BMW and the dealer gave me more (allegedly) to leave it on when I px’d it - he said it made him smile and looked forward to selling it - RU 69 BOB - apparently younger people read it to mean a different thing to older people !

Just one more thought please. My daughter will shortly reach a monumental birthday one I personally thought I would never see as a callow youth but clearly did and am still here many years on! But what to buy her that's memorable and not sit in a drawer alongside the rest of watches, jewellery  expensive pens etc?

But a plate  now that fits the bill in all sorts of ways , can't be lost or stolen, very personal and memorable every day .

Better still it may even appreciate in value and can be passed on out side of IHT win win

For those who have the patience this short 5 min video was taken by Phil Walker Car Sales Ltd of Sheffield just after I sold my LS460 to him a few years back.  He retired not long after and spent 40 years selling cars but loved the LS460.  I was so proud to own this car in this colour combination.  This was my very first Lexus and I stuck with Lexus ever since. Towards the end of the video he shows the car with the bonnet up and that is what this post is really about.   He sold the car 5 days after he posted the video.

In my opinion Lexus set out to impress by having the cleanest look of any car I have ever seen when the bonnet was opened.   A damp cloth was all it took to keep it looking like new.  My current car the LS500h has a similar look but not like a LS460 and certainly most cars today make it very difficult to keep an engine bay looking like new or at least clean and for someone as anal as me that's a hard thing to overcome.    OCD has always been an issue for me but the first time I opened the bonnet of a LS460 I thought "now this is what I'm talking about" and how much time  I would save cleaning.    The ES300h I owned before my LS500 took a lot of time to keep clean and it still looked like a plumber's nightmare.

If there is a smarter, clutter free, more streamlined under bonnet look than a LS460 be sure to let me know.

  18. More ho ho ho;read recently if you still have any crackers left 😎

A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel after a large chess tournament.

Rather than going straight to their rooms, the group stayed together in the lobby discussing the day’s events and their recent victories.

After an hour, the manager of the hotel entered the lobby and asked them to disperse.

    “But why?” they asked.

    The manager answered,

“Because I can’t stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.”

My son lives in Australia and has an Australian amazon account. I live in the UK and have both an Australian amazon account (for use when I visit him) and my UK account. Today he sent me a $600au amazon gift card by email. When I clicked on the tab 'add this gift card to your account' it went into my Australian account (I didn't see an option to put it into my UK account) so now I can't use it to buy the Christmas present it was for. I have had a live chat with amazon and they told me I can't transfer it to my UK account and my son won't be able to cancel it because it is now in my account. I have tried to buy the present using my Australian account but it can't be posted to the UK and it would cost to much to have it posted over here if I had it sent to my sons address. It appears I'm stuck in no mans land. Can anyone come up with any suggestions???

This is an interesting one, I can buy from the US site with no problem. I think it's worthwhile to ask for resolution ideas from amazon. On the first enquiry you went through scripted first lines probably in the Philippines kindly ask your situation be escalated. Bearing in mind I suspect amazon are wary of any forms of money laundering even if way below £10k threshold

    Boring -  MOI !!!

    Hankies at the ready:-

    Here goes:-

For some strange reason I find people don't like me very much. At least that's what my wife tells me, and she should know.

My areas of conversation are limited to my knowledge of the following topics .

    1 Wine

2 Motorbikes ( all of them - the older the better )

    3 Wine ( Mostly Bourgogne )

4 Opera (Mostly Wagner - Oh No! )

    5 Wine

I find that people don't listen to or understand what I am saying and tend to broadcast their own information about rubbish topics that are of no interest, such as; their holidays or their operations or their dead friends.

Is that because I am boring? Or just plain annoying?     Answers on a postcard please to:

The Xenophobia and Misanthropism Society, Preston Town Hall.

BTW -  Notice there was no Lexus in the list😉

Shouldn't that be wine with an h? 😅, Merry Christmas to one and all and may 2024 give us many more opportunities to be thankful for what you have 🍷
