Lol I don't have much spare time at moment but sometimes you can go overkill! When I was in my 20s I developed a 32 step procedure to valet the car but I was slightly obsessive with it! Lol

I can see why some people get ocd with these things!

It's a workout itself to do it and you need time to rest afterwards 🤣

Yes definitely hard work, I’m 53, so it’s getting harder, but once a car has been professionally detailed, and coated, it would just be a waste of money, if I went back to the hand wash places, as I will be back to square one, with swirl marks, I confess I don’t do it weekly, probably every 3 weeks or so, and depending on the weather forecast. Yes definitely a work out.

Ditto..   It's never been an issue for me either

Peter do you prefer the Mercedes hold system or the Lexus one, I ask as I was at first sceptical about the Lexus one, being used to the one on my Mercedes, but after having driven my father’s Lexus a few times, I appreciate the Lexus one more, as once you switch it on, you don’t have to press the brake pedal for it to function.

    Lexus

  3.  As as I have carpro uk ceramic coating on my blue Mercedes, I use carpro lift snow foam, and carpro reload shampoo, then once in a while as a top up carpro elixir detailer. Gtech window cleaner, and gtech tyre dressing. Interior  Nappa leather dashboard and door cards, just give it a wipe over with a microfibre cloth, no dressing whatsoever. Takes me approximately 3 hours though😥 that includes setting up, and putting things away, but gives me great satisfaction.

I don't know of any car/system that turns off the brake lights and whilst I agree with what the Highway Code says (as a matter of courtesy), it only says should and not must.

I've been driving for over 40 years and can honestly say that I've never been dazzled by brake lights when in a queue or stood at traffic lights, not even the modern LED ones.

Me neither to be honest, when behind any vehicle 99% of them  have the brake lights on, and have it has never bothered me in the slightest.

  5. My Mercedes has the brake hold function, it also keeps the brake lights on, haven’t checked my father’s NX if it does the same, I’m sure other will tell you if it does or not.

  6. Would you mind telling me how one gets a cracked windscreen, as my father who has an NX, and his insurance is due a renewal soon, and on the comparison website two company’s with a price difference of £70, the lower one is without windscreen cover and the higher one has, he was mentioning that in over 50 years of driving he has never had to replace a windscreen, so he is considering doing without the cover, but I am thinking these modern ones has camera and whatnot, and it would be sods law that if he doesn’t have the cover, then at some point he could indeed get a crack, and require changing, at huge cost.

Hmm well test drove a new CX-5 at lunch. The guy gave me plenty of time and had a route in mind with various twisty roads and dual carriageways along with some town centre driving.

Difficult choice between the two. There certainly isn't a right/wrong option. Just going to stick my thoughts here, it may help some people in a similar position, but also it's good to just get things down.

    Lexus NX
    Pros
Slightly older model so done the main bit of depreciating.
Lower overall price (works out ~£5k cheaper)
Extended warranty is a great price
    Loads of features built in
Hybrid which works well for shorter journeys
    Panoramic sunroof
    Premium feeling interior

    Cons
Trackpad to control infotainment can feel a little sensitive
Boot isn't the biggest due to sloping rear
Incurs the £340 tax premium for another 3 years
    Needs retrofit for Apple carplay
Didn't get a brilliant test drive. Wouldn't want to mess other dealers around too much though by just trying a similar car locally

    Mazda CX-5
    Pros
Some great features such as HUD
Great sized boot and well thought out
    Premium feeling interior
    Well laid out infotainment system
Brand new car so choice of colour/spec/warranty etc

    Cons
Auto box felt a little delayed. A few times i put my foot down and there was a delay, then a shove.
No wireless phone charger - Not a huge issue, but it'd be nice
    Initial cost + depreciation cost
Thin steering wheel wasn't as comfy

As mentioned, i don't think i could go wrong with either car. I've certainly ruled out the Hyundai Tucson i think and not seen anything else within budget which feels as good as either the above.

Trackpad can be adjusted to slow, as I did on my father’s NX, as I found it too quick/sensitive even on the medium setting.

  8. Hi my father just purchased a NX300h 2018 11k miles, the prices at main dealers were around 28k mark, saw one at a non Lexus dealer priced at 26.5k, got it in the end for 26k, but was hard work getting £500 off, at main dealers it was almost impossible. Are the prices for the above vehicle over inflated at the moment, or are they the going rates. I’m surprised how high prices are for the NX, or is that the norm.

Section 7 on the link below shows the option for locking/unlocking bleeps, typically earlier Lexus models had a simple “volume control” mounted under the driver’s side kick pad to adjust the level or turn if off.

Hi thanks for that, the car is booked in for a free health check on Thursday, will ask the dealer to program if it’s possible.

I totally agree with what Ed says. Ownership is much more than mpg. I had a very economical Octavia estate but the Turbo went. All the savings on fuel I made that year were lost. Emissions are now having a very big bearing on the ownership of cars. Modern diesels can have DPF issues which can cost a lot of money to rectify, along with the problems being experienced by Adblue users. As far as I am concerned the only way forward, for now, is a hybrid. Even petrol cars having emission issues with engine management lights coming on. The writing is on the wall, even if others refuse to admit it. My next vehicle will probably be a Lexus or Toyota hybrid. You pays your money you takes your chance!

Hi guys a new member on here, I have a 2017 E350d V6, and am an active member on the Mercedes forum (sorry🙁), but have just persuaded my elderly retired parents to purchase NX300h Luxury 2018, but there are plenty of owners on the Mercedes forum with owners having issue with Nox Sensors, and adblue and dpf, so what spacewagon52 says is correct, so factoring that, and also the noise of a diesel car, (unless it’s a V6 of course), then if the mpg of a hybrid and a diesel is more a less the same, then hybrid would be a better choice. Also in London a residents permit for a diesel car also has a added supplement, and diesel also being more expensive the petrol. Low mileage drivers should probably not get a diesel, due to the dpf and adblue issue, my retired father does around 3k miles a year, this was the reason I told him to go for the NX, rather then anything else.

  11. Hi Vladimir, thanks for the kind words, being truthful, I am absolutely happy with my V6 E class, by as my father is retired, and he spends the winter months between December and March in India, his yearly mileage is approximately 3k, so I will have plenty of opportunity to drive  the Lexus, I really have the best of both worlds, so to speak. For me it’s like having two cars.

This is my E Class, hope members don’t mind me posting a non Lexus picture

  12. Hi All,

I have persuaded my 78 year old father to purchase a NX300h Luxury 2018, they previously had a Mercedes B Class, so suv is ideal for my  elderly parents, comfortable and the ease of getting in and out. I have a Mercedes E350d 2017, so yes the Lexus Is different compared to this, but for them at their age it’s ideal premium suv.

Have been reading up on post in the NX site, to familiarise myself to the car, so I can set it all up for my father, and any issues that arises, i at least have some knowledge on dealing with it for him.

I have recommended to him to take out a 3 year service plan, which comes with 3 free mots, at a cost £905, I think that is great value, especially compared to my Mercedes service plan, which is £1200, for 3 service, without the added mot’s.

I wanted the grey colour, so did my father.

  13. Hi All,

My father has just bought a NX300h 2018 in grey, so I have been reading up on topics to gain knowledge on this car on his behalf, I have a Mercedes E350d 2017, so not familiar with the Lexus, but did recommend the NX to him.

I have noticed that the one beep and two beeps doesn’t happen when locking and unlocking, and there is nothing in the door lock menu to enable this feature, but on a you tube video it shows that there should be this setting in the door lock menu, if not then the dealer can enable this feature. Is the you tuber correct, and others who have this model can you confirm that their cars beeps when locking and unlocking.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Shahid
