Have chased up dealership regarding my order and delivery date, after waiting 10 days for a response to a call. All of a suddenly my order is now showing on "My Lexus" and the delivery time moved to September.

Initial order was placed  on 14th Jan 2022. Does it seem like my order may have been forgotten about?

Mine didn’t show up for about a month on the app and then went into build. I did notice a time lag between the mobile app and the website page as well. hopefully if in build now then they have the parts to get it finished and delivered sooner. I am assuming it only goes into build when they have all the parts to complete it?

We all seem pretty clued up on here, but many people don’t even think about ongoing costs like tax, and with low attractive PCP deals, most people on average salaries can afford a £40k car at £250-300 a month. I think the tax should be in line with 40% tax code at just over £50k

out of interest how many of us was informed about tax implication’s during the sales process. I knew and brought it up in conversation myself.

Although, saying most people on average salary is probably a bit too much, especially with every other bill having gone up this year. I will amend to most people on a medium to high salary.

I'm afraid, this latest trend to fix tax thresholds is yet another way of maximising the tax take. When the £40k threshold was set a few years ago I can remember many saying it would only affect high value cars ergo wealthy buyers, but here we are, and it's affecting many more with every possibility it will soon become the majority of buyers.

Chris, I'm a little confused, if you placed an order (and presumably paid a deposit) on 19/12/21 wouldn't this guarantee you getting the car at the agreed price at the time of the order? Or am I missing something here?

Price you pay should be the same as your order date, but you pay tax from list price at date of registration. I think is the issue

    On a £ 40k car! Disgraceful!

I picked up my base-model ES from the dealer and the tank was full to the brim. I would not expect anything less.

Snap, mine was full to top, and when it went back in for a slight fix (replaced a bit of the chrome trim around window) they topped it up again

I see they've added another £1,500 onto the price of a Premium Edition - it's now £39,255. Add on special metallic, then subtract VED and First Registration Fee, and it comes in around £39,950; just below the higher VED threshold.

Just looked at price list and if you have ordered with sonic paint then the premium is actually over £40k, wonder if the dealership would give a bigger discount to cover the extra expense, rather than have cancelled orders?

This week's Auto Express has a mini (2 page) report on the 2022 ES with F-Sport Takumi package. They have given it 3.5 stars out of 5.

Main criticism is the performance and associated engine noise. The infotainment also gets negative comments although Lexus reliability is acknowledged.

Each to their own but it will not spoil the enjoyment of my 2021 Premium Pack model.

Can’t work out why they still complain about the infotainment, it now has a touchscreen, it’s large at eye level and includes apple/android. Plus it has proper buttons and a twisty column control

I was recently perusing a brochure for the ES and came across a mention of a safety feature called "Curve Speed Control" (or maybe "Reduction" - I am translating from memory), which, as far as I could understand, slows the car down automatically when you are approaching a curve too fast.  I know of systems with acoustic warnings to this effect, but not of one that overrides the driver's judgment.  Has any ES owner experience of the feature, or is it something completely new?

I have a feeling it only works when under cruise control, but I haven’t experienced or tried it out

That’s a big jump, list price is now £3k more than when the 22 model went on sale 6 months ago. I see the NX has a similar rise, now over £40k with metallic on a base model.

FWIW, I have been able to plug in my phone and then actually store the phone in the 2-way opening cubby. It doesn’t “bite” the cable when closed. I use a cable which is just long enough to allow me to route it from the left side of the shifter and also not obstruct the touch pad.

I keep the phone on the charging pad (if plugged in, the wireless charging doesn’t kick in)

The worst part of plugging the phone and then storing it in the narrow phone storage next to the USB socket was that the phone and cable twists would rattle. With this arrangement of being able to store the phone in the 2-way opening cubby, the rattling is pretty much eliminated.

My Iphone with chunky protective case fits snug in the gap and I am using a short 4” long usb cable, so no rattles or wires in the way on my side, just annoying that the wireless charging pad is pretty much redundant without the wireless connect to the stereo. I think the new NX is fully wireless and looks really nice, obviously with the ES it’s been a facelift and a fix rather than a new design.

My AA Wireless adapter arrived yesterday, and as I'm not allowed to do anything remotely fun when I return from work, I had to wait until I could sneak out this morning whilst the current Mrs Mincey was still asleep to install it. Installation was a breeze - zap a QR code on the back of the packaging, install the AA Wireless app, plug the dongle thing into a USB port, connect and boom! Job done.

When I returned to Betsy after the first test drive, AA asked me to unlock my phone to use it, which was annoying as I was expecting a seamless experience, but I have an idea that it hadn't set itself up fully. After rebooting Betsy, AA did start on its own and Spotify burst into action as expected. I've plugged it into a USB port in the back so that I can now close the front USB cover/compartment. It is rare that anyone travels in Betsy's passenger seat. Hell will have frozen over if anyone ever travels in the back.

TL-DR: AA Wireless works, owner happy.

Interesting that it works off the rear USB, I thought only the front one was for data and the rears were simply power

Tend to agree about Mesa Red fits the lines of the ES perfectly. Has to be the best colour selection. Sadly for me the Mrs has a superstition that red cars are bad luck so was forced down the route of Graphite Black which is going to be a never ending task to keep clean.

I had the same worry, the graphite looks amazing when perfectly clean, dealer had one in the showroom under the spotlights and I was very tempted. My fav colour is the F sport blue but unfortunately not available on other models.

Plus my last several cars have all been blue, silver and black; I had always wanted a soul red Mazda but that option on my old gt sport 6 put my company car £2 a month over my limit, the Mesa is close enough

curious, Edgware Rd offered me a quote via car wow, but it was a lot more than £31598, in fact they wasnt even my cheapest quote, almost £1500 more than they quoted you !!

When I ordered mine in October, I too got matched with Edgware who were offering £32.6 at the time. Guess it depends on time of month etc

Sorry I do not know about the part ex, but not sure why it would differ. Looks like prices have moved slightly from when I bought it last year. As Carwow prices are dynamic and update constantly. If I log in these are the offers as of today:Carwow.thumb.JPG.2bdc772a1328a187d87cdb6b7a1fbbee.JPG

Wow, it is now about £1500 cheaper than when I got mine back in October, and it has had a price rise this year as well

I also got mine price matched through Carwow

No access to track the vehicle sadly, online or mobile. The registered email address shows 0 vehicles listed. I queried this and was advised 'you can only track when the build has started'. Dealership is Stephen Eagell franchise also but at Cambridge. Interesting how you got phone calls every other week, have had nothing of the sort.

Thought it might be, they have most of the Lexus dealerships in this area, the head office is Milton Keynes so maybe mine is worried about being mystery shopped, I had an Avensis as a company car many years ago and the local Toyota was also very accommodating
your right about the app, it only works well once the car is in production.

Perhaps unlucky by not having the best dealer, perhaps also I am expecting too much. As this is the first Lexus ordered and switching from another manufacturer maybe the expectations were too high? Was expecting the dealer to be responsive and provide a level of service that is premium in terms of customer service and any change to delivery dates would be informed ASAP. Only found out about the changes to dates so far by me chasing them. Sorry to say that the Lexus brand is not held in such high esteem as it was in November 2021 when the order was placed. Also the lack of spare wheel on the ES has been a further disappointment and Lexus UK have put in writing for me that they do not support adding a spare wheel is it would not then be UK spec. Every other car owned before has always had the option of having a spare wheel if it is not standard. Certainly the experience so far as removed any positivity around purchasing a new car! Even as I type this message the dealer has not responded. Things can only improve as it cannot get much worse....

That’s terrible, which dealership are you using? I can’t praise my local Stephen Eagell high enough. From first contact through to hand over, spoke to my sales guy every other week, sales manager came in during the hand over and the site manager emailed me as I was driving home.

out of interest are you using the app, both mobile and online.

I have just had an email saying my new world has been shipped , just asking if anyone knows roughly how long it takes once shipped to get to the dealer for collection? Thanks

From memory, shipping is 6-8 weeks depending on weather and then it takes 2-3 weeks once landed to arrive ready for collection. So 2 months hopefully for you. I think, roughly

Go for the premium pack which gets about 90% of a Takumi spec.  I bought a premium edition but only to keep the purchase below £40K and the premium edition has good spec but nothing like a premium pack option.

Leather, ventilated front seats, leg extension to driver's seat, seat memory, rear blinds on rear doors and rear screen, wood leather steering wheel, wood veneers, triple LED headlights to name some of the items not on a Premium Edition.   My first ES was the base model with a  Premium pack which was £3500 and still kept the cost below £40K back in 2019.

Sorry, for once I don’t agree (personally) £4.5k for the extras you mention plus the extra VED really doesn’t seem worth it to me. The standard fake leather is lovely already. cooled seats are an asset for several days a year but not a necessity, extended seat base and extra adjustment is great if you have back problems and drive a lot of miles, wood veneer is not needed, triple LED is a bit gimmicky really the standard lights seem perfect to me and the way they light up the direction your steering works really well. Now if you were getting the ML stereo as well then it might be worth the extra.
