After LV saying they won’t renew my 2026 RX450h I have just renewed through Money Supermarket at Churchill for next month at £715. Thats with 9 years no claims and parked in the road outside my house so I am well pleased. Bizarrely I tried going to Churchill direct and it was £200 more.  I also tried Ageas but they wanted £1800 for the same cover.
There just seems to be no logic for the wide range of pricing out there.

When the comparison sites first appeared, I found myself hunting through all those small print pdf files to establish what, exactly, I'd be covered for. What I found was that the cover being offered on the comparison site was less comprehensive that the insurer's own direct website. Basically, to look competitive and appear in the top results, something had to give. Most people don't read the small print so they got away with it. I have no idea whether they operate in the same (underhand) way now but I have better things to do with my time than read all the small print so I no longer use the comparison sites. Maybe I'm losing out; maybe the companies behave more ethically these days; but then again, maybe pigs really do fly!

Another crazy, tunnel vision decision by LV insurance. My wife has a 19 year old Honda Jazz that she's insured with LV for as long as we can remember. Its value is so low, what's the likelihood of it being stolen? She received an email today as follows.       Thank you for choosing to insure your HONDA JAZZ SE AUTO with LV= over the past year. We’re writing to you to let you know that, unfortunately, we’ve had to make some changes to our underwriting approach for your vehicle type. Over the past year, there’s been a rise in thefts of the HONDA JAZZ SE AUTO. As a result, we’ve seen a large increase in the number and cost of claims we’ve received for these types of vehicles and have made the difficult decision to stop insuring them. This means at your next renewal date on 11 June 2024, we won’t be able to offer you a renewal price. We will send a letter confirming this again in advance of your renewal date, the letter will explain that this is due to a change in our underwriting criteria. Please rest assured this won’t class as your insurance being declined, cancelled or voided, and you won’t need to declare it to other insurers. We never want to leave our customers in the difficult situation of having to find cover. However, we feel that continuing to cover certain vehicles would create a greater overall detriment to our customers by increasing pricing overall.

It's not just cars. LV won't insure my house because I have oil central heating! They have become very picky lately; acting like a start-up that only wants low risk business. I won't use them for this reason but, in fairness, I have always been happy with their travel insurance.

  3. Hopefully all will be well now but do keep an eye on the communication icon. I found that I had to reconnect every trip until I did the reset. I didn't find it necessary to press the power button as you describe.

If you do need to go down the reset route, your journey data may not appear straight away. It did for me but it took a few days before it reliably appeared for a friend.

  4. My understanding is that, as you say, the traction Battery retains about 30% of its charge. There are good reasons for this but 30% does seem on the conservative side to me. I would prefer the app showed the percentage of usable charge; 100% when fully charged and 0% when there was no usable range left but it's not a big deal.

Same is true of the dash display; if I can't have/use the last 30%, then don't show it. True of the fuel tank too; if it's full to the top, I want to see all the bars in the green and for the number of bars to reduce proportionally until the tank is empty. Then I can be clear and know that if it gets to one remaining bar, I need to start looking for a petrol station. Toyota/Lexus conservatism is annoying here; as another thread has shown, owners have found that there is often still a significant amount of fuel left in reserve when the dash would have you believe that the car is in imminent danger of running out of fuel and being stranded.

Estimates on the dash display and the app cannot be calculated in the same way. My dash has been showing an EV range of between 71km and 73km for weeks now whereas the app has been gradually creeping up by 0.2 or so without a/c and 0.3 with a/c over the same period. However, to be honest, I just let the car get on with it; if the fuel looks low, I top it up, if the Battery needs charging, I charge it - a bit like the olden days before we had these fancy apps! I know that if I drive gently, I get more mpg or Battery miles, if I drive more aggressively my £ doesn't take me as far and I don't need an app (or a home smart meter) to tell me that.

I contacted Lexus and made the appointment for dashcam but they told me only front cam can be installed in NX 350h and they won’t install rear one as it interferes with Dab!!? Any suggestions pls? Should I cancel the appointment and try somewhere else than Lexus?

I've got front and rear cam's and not had any interference. I do recall a thread a year or so ago where some people did have a problem (if I've remembered correctly). That some have had a problem and others haven't could be because some took the wiring down the near-side and others took it down the off-side maybe.

  6. I hope you will keep an eye on us over here in NX world, you have been a great contributor since I've been a member of LOC. Big smile for you on your decision; I'm sure you'll be just as happy, if not happier, with your RX as with the great NX (but probably just as frustrated with the app! 😉 ). How long are you expecting delivery to take? What was it about the RX that convinced you to change?

The suggestion from my dealer was to use one of the bolts at the top of the suspension strut for the earth connection. He acknowledged that this wasn't the official point but is 'what they used'. This is a lot closer than Point D but I admit that I haven't tried my NoCo leads to see if they are long enough.

My NoCo leads are very short and wouldn't reach the official earth point but they do reach the dealer suggested point for a jump start.

For Steppy and others, I wouldn't necessarily use this for a charger and I certainly wouldn't be loosening a suspension nut to create a more permanent connection. I agree with Colin that paint may interfere with a good connection. The dealer did point out another bolt on the bodywork (around the headlight area) that can be used but I wasn't paying close attention to its location and I don't have a photo; however, this could be an alternative, albeit subject to the same caveat about paint.

  8. Bear in mind that I am no expert and have no inside knowledge so I can only tell you what I think - You've guessed it, disclaimer coming up! I bear no responsibility for what may happen to your system. Of course, everything should be recoverable. In my case, I felt obliged to take some risk as my dealer is 160 miles away. Remember, I'm using an Android phone.

If you have Lexus Link Plus version 2.5.2 installed and it was working okay before you did the OTA Navigation Services and Voice Services update, I would leave that alone to start with. If the following doesn't get you going, I would "Clear cache" in the app (from the phone's Settings\Apps\Storage) and try again. If it still didn't work, I would also then "Clear storage" (same place) and try again. Only if the problems persisted would I: clear both caches, delete and reinstall the app. If Lexus Link Plus wasn't working okay before the OTA update; personally, I'd go straight for the reinstall.

Now for the scary bit (only because I don't really understand why this works). With the car in Ready mode, in the car Settings, go to Info & Security and press Reset, heed the warning that this will delete your profile. Your personal Info, Bluetooth, etc should be gone, if not, try a reset again. I think I also pressed the Reset option in the Personal Info section as well. Be patient, the car seems a bit slow to respond sometimes; I think it may have to connect with Lexus servers. This delay, and my impatience, may be the reason that I ended up doing 3 resets, I just didn't wait long enough for the first Reset to register.

Next I went back to Info & Security. This time, the screen was different, it had 3 agreement options (Not Agree, Agree with Multimedia, Agree with Multimedia and Voice, - or something like that) instead of the two agreement options seen hitherto. Also, the displayed QR code was different, denser, than I had seen before. I scanned the QR code and almost instantly was taken to the next screen. My app was now showing the mileage, charge state, location, last recorded journey, etc as expected.

I then went through the Infotainment Settings screens from top to bottom. I found some of my preferences needed to be set again (such as linking my key, pairing with my phone) but others were remembered, presumably stored along with my account info at Lexus.

Touch wood, several on/off cycles and a couple of journeys later, and all seems to be well and the connection arrows have remained blue (connected) since performing the above.

Hope this helps and works for you. Good Luck!

  9. After days of frustration since doing the OTA update to Navigation Services and Voice Services and having to give my agreement before every journey, I am now finally up and running. I complicated things for myself by deciding that now would also be a good time to change from the original Lexus Link app (which I was very happy with) to the Lexus Link Plus app (see the "App Version Please" thread if you're interested in the details) but I got there in the end.

    In summary:

I deleted the phone apps and their cache. I forced Lexus Link Plus v2.5.2 onto my phone.

I reset the settings in the Infotainment screen.  I had to do this 3 times! On the third time, a different QR code was displayed and there was a third option to agree to (previously only 2 agreement options were showing).

After completing all the options, I now have a car that doesn't need my agreement every time I get into it (ie the connectivity arrows are staying blue and not greyed out) and the app is showing the trip data and the car's location for the last two journeys. Unfortunately, I no longer seem able to download my Trips history; either from the app or from the portal. Anybody know if this is possible?

  10. Thanks guys, that's what I thought was the correct version. To explain what's going on for me:

I did the car software update last week but have been having the same problem as many (neatly summarised by Mobeam about 30 minutes ago). Suggested fixes (such as turning on all Navigation options) haven't made any difference. I didn't try the reset option because I had happily been using the old Lexus Link app (with very few problems) and I thought there was a good chance that I would have a problem if I reset the car. However, yesterday, fed up with the nag screens and deciding that in order to give the car software the best chance of working, now seemed like a good time to upgrade to the Lexus Link Plus app. That's where my problems start ...

From within the old app, there is an option to upgrade to Lexus Link Plus but when I try this, the Play Store tells me that, "This item is not available in your country".

If I go directly to the Play Store from my phone, it tells me that the compatible app is called "Lexus" version 2.1.14 - so I decided to download and install it. However, when I try to connect to the car, at the "Add Vehicle" step, the app will not accept my VIN, either manually or scanned. I get the message, "We don't recognize the VIN you have entered. ..." I'm not surprised as I think that 2.1.14 is a US version of the app. I don't have VPN so that shouldn't be confusing things.

I found a way to force version 2.5.2 (called Lexus Link Plus) onto the phone. I started the connection process, logged into my Lexus account okay, accepted the permissions okay but when I got to the stage to connect to multimedia, I scan the QR code on the Infotainment screen and am greeted with the message, "You have a car model that supports a different version of the app." This is followed with a link to "Download Lexus Link". When I follow this link, it takes me to the Play Store "Lexus Link" version 4.22.0 - which is the name and latest version number for the original app. If I accept the recommendation, the app loads, I enter my registration number and am then greeted with, "Please use the new app. A different app is required for use with this vehicle".

If you have followed this far, you will see that I'm going round in circles! Certainly my head is spinning. I can only think to delete all the Lexus apps on my phone, clear the caches and do a Reset on the car but, before I do, has anybody else had a similar experience or got an alternative ideas? Thanks.

  11. Would somebody who has a working version of the Lexus Link Plus app (Android) please advise me what version they have. Thanks.

My phone, tablet and car don't agree and I cannot get anything to work and, in trying, my original Lexus Link app (which I was happily continuing to use) has now stopped working. I'll explain more later, when I've worked out what the heck is going on.
