  1. 40% not realistic, it would open the floodgates for any other public service. The firemen do not want their conditions of work altered which governs the shift patterns owing to the fact that it would interfere with their second jobs.

I feel sorry for the army backing up with out of date equipment which does not do justice to their professional attitude and also the public will suffer as a result.

  2. I agree Supercharged IS200. Most motorists saw you in their mirror and slowed down . A warning was given if the incident of speeding did not appear to endanger anyone or anything and if they did'nt heed the warning next time they were booked. This was all in the days ( 1970's) well before speed cameras where the British principles of fair play prevailed. I am not talking about incidents in the middle of the night but during the daytime when pedestrians including children were around. Sorry to say its a different ball game today with the dreaded speed cameras with all the money going into the police coffers.

  3. Thanks Supercharged IS200 I feel better for that reply. I can add that when I was serving I had a few speeders mainly BMWs . They were followed and were not using their mirrors otherwise they would have seen the Police Volvo immediately. They were doing 55-65mph in a 30 zone. They were NOT let off!!

  4. Thanks for your input.

I did know the Construction and Use regs as years ago I did the Police Advanced Driving course at Maidstone and spent 7 years as an area car driver on emergency response.

I used the term' draconian' in relation to the way the police dealt with the incident. I consider a word of warning to the night duty nurse would have been sufficient rather than a £40 ticket which hard up nurses can ill afford to pay!

  5. In Hampshire last week a nurse going on night duty was flagged down by a wpc in a police car and given a £40 fixed penalty ticket for having her fog lights on when it was a clear night.

Have any Lexus owners experienced any such draconian police methods of so called traffic control?

  6. Lexus Southampton have top marks from me in being helpful and very professional.

It was a pleasure changing over cars and even though I had a Belgium Celica purchased in Holland to part exchange everything went with the minimum of stress.

I will certainly return to this branch at a later date.

  7. When I attended the Beaulieu meet I was quite embarassed but thankful when Lexus owners pointed out to me that all my 'directional tyres; were pointing the wrong way. I had changed my wheels and had been unaware that the arrow on the tyre must point towards the direction of travel.

After the meet I quickly changed them around and they are now correct.

  8. Good to see Clarkson back on the Tv screen . The format has to be tested but it is an interesting programme.

I would like to see the Lexus range mentioned more. Has Clarkson ever made any observations on Lexus? I know what he thinks about Rover, Ford and Vauxhall but then they are not in the Premier League. :excl:

  9. Congrats

This is a little tip. I had just acquired my IS 200 SE when in rainy weather I had to do an emergency stop at 9mph. The ADS apparently comes on above 10mph and the heavy car's 4 wheels locked and I gently glided into the car in front. Luckily no damage was caused but its made me think. Happy motoring !

  10. I once had a red Celica in 2000 and the colour hit me so much that sometimes I felt like wearing shades.

For my Lexus I settled for Kensington Green. Ref the red colour it was however:

easy to clean and to touch up stone chips compared with the Kensington Green which looks great when polished but shows every dust mark and cannot be touched up. I am interested in seeing a red Lexus.

  11. Look in the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Staff using computers must be given periodic breaks from screen work. Rest areas must offer protection to non-smokers from discomfort caused by tobacco smoke. Where food may become contaminated in the work place there must be a rest area. Staff using VDU's must be given training and free eye tests every 10 years. and free specs when they are to be used only for VDU work.

  12. I have been slowly getting there. Three years ago I was running a 1.6 Nissan Primera . It was reliable but certainly lacked image( or the wrong type). I then crossed over to Holland and brought back a red Toyota Celica. Great car but no room in the back and on retirement I was required to give more people lifts. It was then that I spied the Lexus 1S 200 SE range at the local dealer. The rest is history and my part exhange meant that after 12 mths motoring I got what I paid for it.
