  1. MY24 NX have the new security so insurance rates are down with the better companies. Earlier years and RX have gone up, particularly in London and SE where many are being stolen with both CANBUS and key cloning. DM reported Lexus as most stolen make so not surprising that insurance takes fright, particularly with the RX being most stolen car.

    1. Apart from Lexus being responsible for the design flaw that allows the RX to top the stolen charts. Which if they PUBLICLY fixed then thieves would be deterred / unable to steal, quid pro quo reducing the risk, then premiums would follow suit. So Lexus absolutely have a major influence on insurance premiums

    2. All insurance premiums are based on risk (driver / age / location / security flaws / etc) the main thing affecting rx gen4 is canbus. Rx gen 5 is encrypted, removing this risk from the calculation, hence the lower premiums.

But you are correct, they will soon be economically uninsurable, and therefore worthless.

So very much in Lexus’ interest to recall ALL gen4 and upgrade. Correct THEIR mistake.

  3. Interesting that the DM article placed Lexus as the most stolen brand as well as the RX as the most stolen car. The NX is not on the list but few MY23 sold and MY24 all had only one key while the new key software was brought in. I understand that the CANBUS routing is not as exposed as the RX.

Also of note is the RAV4 in the top 10. When I changed from my RAV4 to MY24NX 450h+, I actually got an insurance rebate from NFU.

I spend 6months of the year in EU but on a gated community with regular security patrols (next door has a Ferrari and Bentley!)

The Daily Mail now have an excellent article, using DVLA data to rank cars with the number stolen vs the numbers registered. Ie in percentage terms, rather than just the highest numbers.

The Lexus RX is number 1 on the list, with *1 in 46* of all those registered stolen last year!

Interesting that the NX is not even in that top 10.

    The RAV4 is.

Lexus is also the most stolen brand in 2023.

If the RX is 1 in 46 across the whole of Britain, what will it be in just Greater London and SE?

It would be particularly interesting to see this breakdown by Model Year to see if the new keys and software have had an effect. An analysis the Lexus UK could easily do if they really cared about their customers.

  5. I also did not get any EU safety kit but had one from previous car. Important to note that it must be accessible within the car. If you have luggage, then under the boot would be illegal, certainly in Spain. Also soon needed is a LED flasher that can be placed on the roof in place of the yellow triangles. That, at least is less trouble than having the warning triangles under your feet.  Some English speaking Garda run an excellent website advising U.K. drivers https://n332.es/tag/warning-triangles/

  6. Just received my second key recall. It suggests I call my Lexus centre to order the key. They also supplied a Lexus Directory.

it has my dealer on it. You are welcome to try the number they publish. It just leads to a telephone test. What hope do we have if Lexus UK are publishing incorrect information in their own Directory?

After numerous weeks of the Lexus Link+ app reporting that all the doors were closed but unlocked, today it's started to work properly! What's changed, there hasn't been an app update?

No sign of App update, still same for both iOS and Android, but it is giving the correct info. Even Fuel range is same as car (but in km, marked as mi) Very useful for those of us in Europe! EV range is still in mi. Someone needs to understand that you cannot just Add mi and km 😉 , but I’m happy with that!
As app versions are still same, I assume someone with some sense is now looking at the Lexus data that feeds the App. 🙂 🙂 Keep up the good work!

Thank you Bill.  That would appear to be the same version I have had for a few weeks.

It may be that Lexus are changing their end of the software/data and that requires a new download and reconnect of the apps. Possibly even the car is changed. Both iOS and Android versions stopped working, would not accept passwords, until I contacted Lexus U.K. and then deleted both apps and reinstalled with a password change of my Lexus account.

I lost my car keys and do not have a spare as it was not available because of chip shortage in June 23 when I purchased car new. This is now a big problem as spare key now available but cannot be paired. Car has already off the road for a week I have been informed by Lexus that is likely to be another 2 weeks before problem is sorted.Has anyone else had this problem and did it take this long to resolve?

The single key was supplied with a numbered tag. This was supposed to allow a replacement key to be available quickly.
