  1. Hi All I wondered if any of your service your own cars and if so how difficult you found it with the Lexus RX450 model. I am not fussed about a service history book with stamps as don't plan to sell it but I would like to try avoid spending close to £350-400 on a full service if I can do a lot of it myself, such as air filter changes, oil changes etc. Spark plugs may be harder but YouTube seems to have videos for it all. Has anyone done the usual jobs to their cars and any advice / feedback?
  2. Hey all an update: checking tyre pressures was good advice. They were all around 38-39 PSI. I’ve brought them all down to 35 which definitely has helped a lot. It doesn’t feel as rigid anymore and seems to absorb much better. however cannot get around the crashy ride. Driving thru any uneven surface where it slightly divots causes this loud crash like noise which feels very fragile.
  3. Thanks guys - any otther feedback from from anyone about the general post? cheers
  4. Thanks - I will look into that. Is there a setting to check it on the 2011 model via the info panel / digital screen?
  5. I recently purchased a 2011 RX450 with 110k miles. The car appears faultless and been well looked after. I am very pleased with the cabin quality and comfort + the seat which is like a giant arm chair. However - I am quite unimpressed with the ride quality / firmness of the ride + rattling. I have the SE-I version so cannot change the suspension settings. I have some observations and wondering if there is anything I can do: 1. The car has 19inch wheels and the only time it ever feels smooth to drive is on a motorway. Other than that I seem to feel every pothole and tiny deviation in the ground. It's almost a bit embarrassing with passengers in the car as the vehicle looks like it should be able to comfortably absorb different terrains 2. Along with the harsh ride is the incessant rattling /creaking general noises from the rear of the cabin. Some of it was parcel shelf related, but even after trying to minimise that noise, there always seems to be random creaks, groans, rattles coming from various places. 3. There is definitely a feeling going over uneven roads of the car swaying left to the right a bit (rolling) I am just wondering if there is anything I can do or if others have noticed the above especially with ride quality. Maybe you don't notice it. For some reason, now its in my head and I cannot not notice it. It's a shame because I love absolutely everything about the car but really struggling with the ride quality at times. Thanks
  6. Picked up a 2011 RX450. Trying to understand in more detail how this battery works. 1. Sometimes when I am driving under 20mph I see on the dashboard the battery with a line to the wheels meaning the battery is working. Then sometimes it will just switch and the wheel will be charging the battery even if I have not changed my speed. It seems to be continuosly changing between these two modes. 2. The battery logo always seems to be about a third on the dashboard. How do I get this battery logo to full? 3. Is it possible to set it so you are always in electric mode when driving slowly so that I rarely use the fuel? A question on general understanding: If I am always driving around towns or in traffic at slow speeds does it mean I can go whole jouneys almost never using the fuel? If so why can't mpg get much beyond the 30 people claim. Thanks!
  7. Appreciate all your replies above. I spent hours cleaning the car today and tomorrow I shall try to find all the sources of rattling. The car is super comfortable to be in and I am happy with the purchase however I did think the ride would be a bit smoother. I do not drive SUV much and just assumed as it is a big car that I would not feel as many bumps on the road but I was surprised to find the drive quite firm. So all the comfort I get from being in the seating position is negated by the bumpy roads and harshness of the drive in certain areas. Do you guys agree with this? Sorry I do not see a way to reply to your individual posts so I assume I just write this as a new comment 🙂
  8. @royoftherovers No - just off a used car dealer. Car seems to be in good knick and has a partial service history most of which is Lexus, some of which is not. Thanks for welcoming me
  9. Hey all - I joined the Lexus club - purchasing a beautiful black RX450 from 2011 with cream interior and pano roof! I have some initial thoughts and questions please. If you know any answers please just answer what you can. Thank you very much! 1. The leather seats have got really worn out and cracked everywhere leaving long black scar like lines. It looks like this is an issue many lexus owner have faced. Is there anything I can do to try fix this (Without changing the leather) 2. I've been really struggling to pair my phone so I cna make calls. When I go to pair it, it says "disconnecting you from audio bluetooth". So it seems there are two different bluetooths one for listening to audio like spotify another for phone connections. Is that right? 3. Does the UK sat-nav allow you to put full post codes in? For example I can go SW19 5 but then cannot get the final two letters for specific address. The satnav tech is pretty lame and I doubt I will use it much as it is so unintuitive but I guess it is an 11 year old car! 4. The car came with a large panoramic roof. I was surprised when the dealer told me it doesnt actually open, its just a fixed close pano roof for letting light in. I thought it would be able to open! 5. I am also a bit surprised the car does not have quick touch indicators. Need to get used to this (pressing them all the way down and up) 6. Although the car drives pretty smooth I did have to unhook and take the parcel shelf off and stow it away as it caused so much rattling in the vehicle it was crazy. Wondered if this was just maybe a loose bolt or they are always that noisy on bumpy roads. Seems strange for a luxury car to make so much rickety noise on unsmooth roads.
