  1. I have a IS250 convertible, 2010 and Lexus has told me it is unable to update my satnav. However if you have Gen6 8HDD satnav, as posted earlier, you can get a 2020 hard drive from the firm below: https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/lexus-gen6-x2808hddx29-sat-nav-map-update-europe-2019-2020-1087-p.asp I emailed them to ask what is involved in replacing the old one and they came back to me the next day with helpful info: “In order to install this update you need to remove your old hard drive from the head unit and replace it with the new one you ordered from us. Please find the attached photos of how to remove your hard drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIcwVnj88VU They also sent me some photos on how to remove the hard drive from the unit (below): I thought that was very good of them. I will purchase the hard drive from them, but I am awaiting confirmation from Lexus that my system is indeed the Gen6 8HDD (it is certainly not a DVD as I bought that and there is no DVD installed - anyone want to buy a Lexus satnav DVD 2018?).

  3. For information. My convertible came with the compressor etc and appropriate moulded tray under the boot carpet. I got a space saver from an IS250 from eBay for £40 (and yet it does fit as I needed to use it when a wheel was refurbished), then I found a second hand moulded tray for a compressor from a breakers (in Holland!) for £50. I put the space save into the tray and drew around it, then, using a jigsaw and Stanley knife, I cut the raised bit out leaving the moulded area where part of a wheel would fit (obvious when you look at it). I then put the ‘new’ tray back, put the space saver in (perfect fit!) and secured the wheel to the floor using a new wheel bolt also from eBay. Eh voila! One space saver secured in the boot. To add to it, the tool pouch and wheel brace also went in there as well. Result. You can get the ‘proper’ space saver moulded tray that they have in the US from Lexus UK, but they are £620 including VAT! Part number 64779-51360-A0 (although this might be for the ivory colour). You can also get them from the US, quoting that part number for about the same in dollars and from a company in Japan called Megazip for $454 plus about $80 postage. So now you know!
  4. I can now see what the update might be a tad expensive - this appears to be the official Lexus manual! https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10111274-9999.pdf
  5. Hi Declan. I think you are spot on with the satnav specification as per: https://www.lexus-mapupdates.eu/Shop/Index However I take your point about checking with the dealer. Ironically it went for a service last Friday and I didn’t ask as I thought it had the DVD system and I already had the DVD.
  6. I’ve found a number of hard drives which would give me updated maps to early 2020s for around £70 which seems, to me, to be worth it. However fitting seems to be complicated. Has anyone done this before?
  7. Hi Declan. Found some info on this, so will research! https://www.satnavishop.co.uk/lexus-gen6-x2808hddx29-sat-nav-map-update-europe-2019-2020-1087-p.asp
  8. PS Declan. You seem to have the same cars as I do!
  9. Hi Declan. Thanks for that. Can you give me any links to the people offering the updates so that I can do a bit if research on them?
  10. Hi Vlad. Thanks for your advice, but alas there is no ‘settings’ button on the satnav. I attach two photos of the left and right hand side of the screen, and the screen itself. Having looked at the screen info on the satnav, it appears that it is something to do with ‘Gracenote’ whatever that is, but I can’t see anything on screen which shows me how to find out whether there is a DVD or not.
  11. I know this is a while ago, but are you talking about the official Lexus wind deflector or an aftermarket one, as per ones on EBay? The ones on EBay show that you have to drill a hole in the plugs to fit, so personally I’d buy two new plugs and drill them and save the originals.
  12. Thanks Neil. Unfortunately mine doesn’t have a ‘Menu’ button on the left (or right!). Here’s a photo of the left and right of the screen plus the screen itself. It could well be that the convertible has a different system to the saloon for some reason (not uncommon - the saloon has a space saver tyre and the convertible foam and a pump, and you can’t fit a spare into the moulded tray under the boot carpet - and, guess what, the moulded tray from the saloon for the wheel won’t fit the convertible! I have managed to get a spare wheel by finding a used moulded tray for the convertible and attacking it with a Stanley knife to allow a space saver to fit under the carpet- now at least I can throw away the foam! Anyway, I digress…..). I bought the DVD from the Satnavshop, who are usually pretty reliable (I updated my NX with them) and they list it as being compatible with the convertible. The answer is out there somewhere……
  13. I have a IS250C, 2010 which I have just bought, whose satnav is 2009/10 and I want to update it. I know, get a Garmin, use your phone, it’s a lot more efficient, etc etc. However I still like built in satnav. I looked through the LOC posts and presumed that mine had the DVD system so got the latest DVD (2018), took off the front panel and there was a DVD slot but I couldn’t see a way of getting the old one out. So I then started delving and find that maybe I don't have the DVD system as it does not come upon the ‘Map Data’. What does come up is ‘Data: 2009 - 2010 Ver. 1’ and ‘Gracenote (CDDB): ver. 01727’. Can anyone explain what I can do to update it? I don’t particularly want to take it to a dealer. I attach two photos, one off the screen and one of the ‘slot’ behind the panel. Thanks for your help.

  15. Another option of course, is to try and find a second hand moulded tray (on eBay or similar) and adapt it to fit round a space saver but still allow the cover to fit. That way, one retains the original moulded tray which can be put back if desired. It’s all falling into place 😃
  16. I wonder if any UK cars were fitted with a space saver? Which leads me to wonder if there are any moulded trays to the boot area in the UK which are shaped for a spare wheel rather than a compressor. I might speak to my friendly dealer as they are usually pretty helpful
  17. Thanks for that Declan. Just to clarify for my purposes! If I’ve interpreted this correctly, there are two parts in the boot space; what I would call the main cover (carpet/mat) and the plastic moulted tray which houses the compressor etc. If you take the moulded tray out, the space saver fits in there OK with a bolt and wing nut but the cover (carpet/mat) will not go back properly because presumably it is a bit too small as it should fit in the lip of the moulded tray, now removed. So you just made a new cover (carpet/mat) a little bit bigger than the one removed and it fitted the space and covered the whole area where the (new) spare wheel is. Sorry to be dense but just wanted to clarify although presumably all will be clear once I get a car….. Unfortunately I’m a bit fussy and only want one in Mica Red with cream leather (which funnily enough is the same colour as my NX - boring or what? 😄). Missed one recently which was a 2009 with 13k miles (mind you pretty expensive) and passed on another with 62k which didn’t seem to have been looked after very well. Luckily its winter so there’s time .
  18. Also following on from my earlier post, does a space saver from a ‘normal’ IS250 fit the C?
  19. Just picked this up. I am in the process of buying a IS250Cwith the dreaded puncture repair kit but will want to get a space saver as soon as I have completed the purchase. The boot tray is molded so it looks like it will house a space saver, but I see Bilal says it does not fit cleanly. What modifications need to be done to make it fit and does that compromise the (already small) boot space? Many thanks. Malcolm
