….wow ! this is exciting - why doe’s all the action happen at the end  of the adventure ?

Steve’s FW 190 attack approach has failed !

think he may have forgot to take the safety’s off as he came in range, duh 😳 ! I never fired a shot, officer, we saw him spiralling down to The English Channel with his prop stationery - perhap’s he did not take on enough shell v-fuel before he took off - at pace ?

look out ! 😲 there’s an me-109 coming in at 3’o clock - I can clearly read ‘ boomer54’ painted on the engine cowling ! pilot look’s very determined - doe’s he not know he has lost the war to sell my year 2000 Lexus LS 400 ?

….why I never registered as a Limited Company, Stephen !

    🔴   loss of control

    🔴   higher set-up cost’s

    🔴   increased legal responsibilitie’s

    🔴   more complex accounting procedure’s

    🔴   personal financial liability

    🔴   lack of flexibility

I traded as ‘Lifestyle’ - no wish to protect brand. all my ‘book’s - hand entrie’s. my, chartered, accountant only charged me £500+pa - he had deregistered from vat listing.

sad, Stephen, did you not check your oil level before take-off to attack me ? looks, to me, like your Daimler-Benz 605-d engine has seized up - just as you came in to range, too ☹️. fear not, Mac, (?) - the raf vosper rescue launch will pick you up from The Channel after you have baled out - be quick though -those me’s are pig’s without power !

You are a bit like my old wing commander. Upside down in a Lincolnshire ditch with your plane in one field and your head in the next. By that I mean your list shows a lack of knowledge that is financially fatal.

My reputation  precedes me having always been known for my penchant for 'ol bangas' regardless of creed and colour, or thats the evil rumour my brother spread.

…..Gang, going to return to the pension topic to really hammer home the need for you to look after yourself, and other’s, and save, while you still can when you, finally, retire !

retire - today, at 66 ( him, her, other ) and you will receive a State Pensionn of £221 per week ! 😲

Gang, that is a pittance compared to what you contribute over a working lifetime to The Taxman, albeit tax free !

    £221 per week = £44 per working day - but your retired ! 😲. (£884 per month).

    ….for 20+ year’s, as a self employed, commission only, Direct Salesman (double glazing, consevatorie’s, used car’s and, latterly - mobility product’s + no serious self qualification’s ) I was earning more than £884 per………day ! ( gross - before tax ☹️ ).

my first 20+ year’s were paye (pay as you earn ie: The Taxman deduct’s his commission before you receive the net amount ☹️ ).

….but the paye position’s were secure, well, as long as I behaved and my Employer existed in business .

my last position (paye) was a senior manager for a major, Southern based, brewer.

the associated benefit’s of senior management ?

excellent salary (taxed) + bonuse’s, generous final salary pension (2/3rd’s of my final salary, as pension, before retiring - stayed for only 8 year’s ☹️). BUPA medical cover for family, generous life assurance - no cost, stock option’s, flexible hour’s, prestige company car (bmw 5 serie’s on order), daily lunch allowance, access to Company Chauffeur Hub if required (for company or own social event’s), drink’s allowance (don’t drink - but friend’s and family, did), select only the best hotel’s when required. a secretary + admin support personnel for my Southern Division.

    - - - so why leave a secure position to fly solo ?

🔴 1.     because my then Sale’s Director was a t****r and one day I told him so at a group meeting and walked out…..(sad, my new bmw was to be delivered to my home the next week ☹️)…..‘rebellious nature and defiant attitude - remember that post ?

    🔴  2.     alway’s felt, I was a Turkey - just running with the herd and conforming !

attended an interview for a double glazing contractor whose client was a large Southern energy supplier.

dg manager sent me out, on trial, to a pm customer home appointment with a dg sample, some admin paperwork + order form and finance application form.

customer had expressed interest in 2 new dg window’s only.

customer visit took me  2 hour’s and a result of an order for the entire house - windows and door’s @ £ 7.000 on finance over 5 year’s, all done and dusted !

returned to the office - dg manager delighted and tapped out some figures into his desk calculator….

the sale of the dg window’s and door’s + finance commission came to c £ 650….

    2 hour’s easy, but persuasive, work for c £650 😲 ( + the future of 2 appointment’s every day, thereafter + alway’s home for 6pm))……….eat your out, paye ! I’m done being a Turkey with a max of 6’ altitude, anymore… !

….for 20+ year’s, I flew with the Eagle’s at 10 - 12 thousand feet - never looked back, never regretted my decision just wish I had made the decision to fly solo, earlier !

ok, not for everyone, I know ! self employed and commission only is a gamble and risky decision. no commission = no food = no mortgage repayment’s = family hungry = possibly homeless’ness ! 😲

make a success of your chosen target market, though…………...you will be convulsing in laughter as you dance to the Bank to pay-in your Commission Cheque (gross of tax) - which, incidentally, are alway’s paid weekly.

hmrc used to love me ! my accountant, ran out of tax avoidance allowance’s to reduce my tax liabilitie’s (because my only overhead was my home) - The Taxman had a field day, twice a year, skimming of his tax on all my profit ! ☹️.

don’t try this at home, Gang - self employement - lose, it will break you, succeed……🥳💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷💷

….she, him, other, sadly, is wasted on me, Malcolm ! ☹️.

I just don’t do the mileage anymore, ( more time spent cleaning than driving ! ), so difficult to justify ! ☹️. (11k in 3 year’s).

your right, the W123 doe’s not come close - a distant, but in it’s day, leading edge technology - better precision assembled than a Rolls - Royce !

    anthony

    ….used to own a very rare 1957 Roll’s - Canardly ! 😲

would roll down one hill and canardly get up the next one………! 🤭

Well the secret is ! It isn't the miles ,it's the pleasure in driving them. As long as I get 'high' driving my SC a couple of thousand a year I will happily smile come Insurance/ road tax time.

A lot of things change when you have taken that close brush to the hereafter. What follows becomes so much more precious.

  5. Great blue sky day for a car show so i went to the one at Lytham Hall. Surprised at the size of the turnout. Some stonkingly beautiful cars on show not least a first class restore of a Karman Ghia. Once the owner had stopped complimenting me on my Northern Soul T shirt I had the pleasure of hearing about is 30 year ownership of the the car. LHD import from California. Full base metal upwards restoration with exceedingly nice attention to the internal seating and carpeting. The latter edged in leather to match the seats. Very nice.

However, despite the showing of some rare beasts there was an even rarer beast not to be seen anywhere. I mention this because if you desire to be one of a kind on show you could do worse than turn up in your SC 430. I was in mine, but only parked in the woods.

I will post up some pics of the cars later when I get a chance.

I have purchased a 2008 SC430. I have not yet heard from the Club. Do you send a membership card or regular updates on events etc ?

    Regards

    Julian

A good lead in is post up some pics of the car you bought. You are sure to get a few other owners engaging. There is one annual meetup event I know of and it is coming up soon. I imagine someone will post up the actual date and venue if asked.

I'm not sure what the 'Scotland the Brave' reference is for? I'm 50% Scottish and 50% English.

The forum rules are laid out so that everyone can follow them surely? Would you like a forum that was full of spam and needless posts? These are the forum rules - not mine. We don't need nearly 100 posts when someone is selling a car do we? When I sold items on this forum recently, I followed advice from the selling section and a moderator was also really helpful in providing guidance.

I know you are attached to this thread because of your shared interest in the LS400 so if you really enjoy Anthony's comments I'm sure you could exchange email / phone number to continue your conversations. After all, once Anthony's car is sold, we are likely never to hear from him again.

As for telling me to 'chill', I'm very relaxed thanks! 😀

I think Malc in his way was saying the thread (at least for him) had become more about a nice bit of banter between likeminds and perhaps less about selling a car. "Chill" simply a word encouraging towards that viewpoint.

However , you are not wrong, that this sort of interaction may be better suited to say The Lounge.

Certainly, I am equally guilty of not staying on topic at times (rare (cough)).

    your Leader at 7 - see what I mean about the ear’s ? 😲

the eagle badge ? The League of Friend’s - a saving’s plan for Charity, at school.

when I was young my Mum used to encourage me to save my pocket money and put it into a grey saving’s box on the wall - I was 14 when I realised it was an electricity meter ! 😃 🙄

Yup, parents you can't live with them and you (fill in the blanks as to your particular viewpoint on them).

I was actually at the enlistment office clutching my birth certificate in my hand for the first time in my life before  knew I had spent 18 years celebrating the wrong birth date ! In truth it is now and forever going to be unknown as to which day is the correct one 13th or 14th May ! Taking the upside approach I have felt it reasonable for the last 50 ish years to celebrate twice  as compensation for the mental anguish suffered in not knowing my real point of origin (sic) :withstupid:

Shout out to you. Above us all you have put that SC to the use it deserves and was designed for.

If I am lucky I would hope to emulate at some point.

  12. Three score and ten on Monday so, no.

I could also apply half a lifetime of Clinical Psychology to your post, but will not.

The fact is you come over has positive and frankly that is good enough so let's keep the focus there.

Malc and I have a history of banter and the 'joke' was for him.
