  1. I just did an experiment.  I used the working fob to open the car, then put it at the back of the house, out of range. Then I got in the car with the non responsive one and tried to start the car.  The car said 'Key not detected', but when I put it by the power button, it started.  Got back out and couldn't lock the car with it.

Holding down the open button for thirty seconds didn't work unfortunately.

engine problem - unlikely, spark plugs may need to be replaced
Incorrect tire pressure. unbalanced wheels, as written above.
there may also be wear on the suspension or steering, and vibration can also be transmitted to the steering wheel

It exactly matches the feel/sound of engine when accelerating from slow speeds and pulling off.

I haven't got a clue what it could be.

I don't know what it could be.

I'm going to get the wheels balanced and a four wheel alignment to see if that makes any difference.

You may find this hard to believe but unless specifically requested the slide pins are generally not removed and re-greased during a dealer brake service. This often results in the Lexus seized calliper problem which I strongly suspect is the cause here.

The only specific parts of a brake calliper alone that can seize are the pistons and the pad slides as these are the only moving parts in it, the only other moving parts are the slide pins…. the usual cause.

I have never heard of any 4 pot callipers seizing up the reason probably being that these do not have slide pins.

Do you have any other symptoms like juddering brakes or pulling to one side?

Wow! My local guy would clean and regrease as a matter of course when doing a brake service on my cars.

Looks more like the pad is at fault.

Who fitted the pads and discs?

Main dealers, when I bought the car in December.

The thing is, that soon after I bought the car I was looking through all the service print outs and noticed that the service they did just before I bought the car  said there was very uneven wear between the two rear sets of pads. 2mm/7mm iirc.  They only replaced the discs and pads. The service sheet stated possible caliper fault, but they didn't replace it.  I contacted their service department and they said that 'calipers were within tolerance.'

I'm just being very aware, that the further it gets from me having purchased the car, the harder it'll be to get them to replace it if it is faulty.

  5. I know the steering is speed and angle sensitive, but it just seems too heavy, for example, at 15mph on roundabouts, the difference is big, even running 39 psi.  It doesn't lighten up until the steering is totally straight.

They said that they would have automatically checked the alignment and wouldn't be itemised on the bill, so fair enough.

  6. I's a Gen IV.  The dealership replaced trailing arms before I bought it to get it through the MOT, but there is no evidence of them doing an alignment.  The tyres are more worn on the edges.  I've got a copy of their internal invoice and it doesn't state that it's been done.  Perhaps it was OK but I'm going to speak to the sevice manager today as their own workshop recommended a caliper replacement two years ago with the previous owner but they didn't get it done, just replaced the discs and pads.  It had pads again the last service due to uneven wear with a comment suggesting a caliper fault yet it wasn't replaced.

This dealership was great a few years ago when I used them last, but the new owners have spoilt the Lexus experience for me.
