  1. I am enjoying my "new" car, GS 430. It is very quick and the good thing is the power it has when you want to overtake on the motorway. It is also very silent and have to be sure that the engine has started when you turn the key.

I have satnav( touch screen) on it and Lexus says it is going to cost me 150 pounds to update the nav to 2009 map. Can I get this map anywhere else or I have to go with Lexus? is there also a "live map" where you can subscribe to get live updates for traffic and congestion with the Lexus satnav?

Does the gs430 2001 has a belt or a chain?

I am also planning to get the Bluetooth kit and the ipod kit installed and can anyone give me any advice on where to get it please?

    thank you.

    To hurl a spanner ...

I can't believe you're asking us to pick your gf's car?! Have you asked her which she'd like and if it suits her needs?

430s rarer and 300s are 9 a penny. Both expensive when new, both worth pocket money secondhand and neither are cheap to run.

Get the one that suits her driving style and needs.

    I'm considering replacing my girlfriend's IS300 with a Mk2 GS300 or GS430.

    - Prices seem fairly similar.

    - I know the 3.0 and like the engine as it's supersmooth and super reliable

    - Fuel consumption is not really important (she only does about 3-4000 miles per year)

    - Performance is not really important either. She doesn't use it and if I want performance, I use my car(s)

Any advice on which one to go for?

Are they both as reliable ? (reliability is imperative !)

    Are the GS430's better spec'ed than the GS300 ?

    Thanks for your opinions.

  2. I found that rear wheel driven cars are better in the snow than the front wheel driven ones. We get a lot of snow in Canada and what is important is the proper tires. The 4x4 does not help much if the tires are no good. A good set of winter tires and then you put a bit of ballast in the boot and there you go. All you have to do is point your front end and the car will push it in the direction you want to go.

  3. What type of chains or cables can be used for Lexus 1998 GS300. I was told by Big-O tire person that chains would rubb and or damage srear Struts if chains were used on my GS300. The Big-O store did not sell snow chains.

Can anyone give me correct imformation on this subject. I live in and area where we do get seasonal snow, New Mexico. This year we have had abot 48" total inches, averaging 12" to 16" per snow day(s).

Can anyone help me with this. Much appreciated.

I live in Canada and we get a lot of snow too and we do not use chains at all. It is much better to get proper winter tires and if it is allowed in New Mexico to use studded tires.

  4. I am having the same dilema now. I had a LS 400 1994 a few years back and had to sell it as I went abroad for my new job. I am back now and planning to buy a Lexus. Because of my current situation my wife would also have to drive my car usually and she feels a LS400 is too big and would prefer a GS300. The GS 300 I test drove(used car) was not very smooth. The LS 400 was the best car I ever had and that includes a BMW 730. I would appreciate if you could let me know what your decision was? Was it the LS400 or the GS300 and the technical reason if there was any?

    Thank you.

I have a GS300 with 62K miles, 96P reg, mostly main dealer service. A local garage has an LS400 with 92K miles, 95N reg, full dealer service history, Metallic champagne, £5990. I have two questions - is it worth moving up to LS? If the answer is yes, what is the most that I should pay him to make the swap? Any thoughts from my knowledgeable co-members would be gratefully received.

  5. Thanks. I drove the car but found that the drive was rougher than my current BMW 5 series. This was the first time I drove a GS300. Previously I had a LS400 1994 which probably was one of the best cars I ever drove(better than the BMW 7 series).Whats the drive of a GS300 like? Is it supposes to be smooth or a bit hard?

I also read a post here that Toyota recommends to buy a newer car with more mileage than an older car with less mileage. Any comments on this would also be much appreciated.

No it will be just run in at that mileage :D .As long as it has a good service history previous mots ,bills etc all should be fine .check the rad for leaks ,make sure it brakes nice and straight as they do go through discs,if its the sport model check alloys for warping other than that they are bullit proof

this thread makes good reading as well http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...opic=14638&st=0
