  1. Well guys thanks for all the replies most helpful.

I took Scudneys advice and used Heeley Alden to replace my front shocks with KYBs, very good family friendly service I think I will use them next time.

I also had the MOT retest done today all sorted happy days again ;)

  2. Hi there,

I got my MOT done today and it failed for the very first time in 10 years of ownership. :eerrrmm:

    Failed on 2 things :

    1) Front nearside shock absorber leaking

    2) Wipers not cleaning screen effectively.

I had only changed the wipers less than 6 months ago as my previous Bosch were getting noisy.

Anyway they quoted my £158 for Part +VAT+ labour to do 1 shock absorber, about £90 for labour, does this seem a good price.

I got 10 days to get the retest done so need to get it sorted soon.

How easy is it to do this DIY as I could not find any previous posts, I've got spanners galore but no compression clamps.

Also should both be done at the same time?

I'm tempted to get this checked at another garage as they could not show me the leak as it was off the ramp when I came to collect.

Anyone know a good reliable garage in Northampton?

  3. I had the same problem when I purchased my RX400. I thought it was the headphones itself but Lexus Bolton sent me a new set, these did not work either.

I visited Lexus MK and they basically taped over one of the leds and this worked, it doesn't look great but it works. You may need try this on your door pillars and see if this works. Good luck :geek:

  4. Lexus Bristol have quoted £333 for the timing belt to be changed and £357 for major service (80,000) this week - so there not far off. Ring around local good rep garages for a service. The cam belt wont need doing on your car until 60,000 miles or 6 years whatever comes first.

Its every 100k or 6 years

I know it says 100,000 miles or 6 years in the vehicle service book but I think you'll find from previous posts on the subject that Lexus now recommend changing the cam belt at 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first

mishman, might be worth contacting JEM who are just up the road from you ....they might be cheaper than Lexus for a timing belt change

Called them this morning around £390 cambelt + oil service. Thanks for the tip car going in next week see how it goes.

Did you get your cambelt and oil service done ok mishman? Would be interested in your thoughts of JEM and whether you'd recommend them?

Had the above work carried out needed a few extras done coolant, tensioner + additional belts. Unfortunately my offside caliper was also siezed this added on another £370. Work was done well, can`t be certain my caliper was siezed as I brought it back home. Otherwise the service would be around £520 + caliper = £890. Still cheaper than Lexus I guess. Was given a YAris courtesy car for 2 days quite pleasant.

  6. :crying: Just got a quote for 40k service which includes cam-belt change from Lexus @Edgware.

    £845

this seems extortionate for a is200 2001 sport you think they would try to entice you back with cheaper servicing now the new model has been around a while.

  7. Posted earlier by accident my post should read...

I get that too but it is intermittent and veers towards right. I checked braking on Friday coming home from work (windows open, music off) but there was no discernible noises coming from anywhere in particular. Coming into work today upon braking, judder of steering wheel and veering to right slowly

I am due to get brake pads/discs changed on front which hopefully should resolve - I need to get them changed anyway.

Was driving the other day, took it passed 65mph and the steering wheel started vibrating. The car also pulls slightly to the left. I`m wondering whether I have sticky or siezed calipers as the car hardly gets driven much during the week. the brakes seem to be fine. Car is Lexus is200 sport 2001.

Both brake pads and discs were replaced last Oct.

  9. Can anyone tell me what baby car seat they use in their IS200  . Mine is a 2001 sport model that I don`t know if has an ISOFIX connection.

    Rgds

I've got the maxi Cosi Isofix too - great piece of kit.

Mine's 2001 too so you should/might have isofix. I have a label on the rear seat behind the passenger saying "isofix" - have a peek....

I`ve not got Isofix, would the maxi cosi still fit?

  10. Hi all,

Just had my is200 sport for a week now, absolute gem . Was offered a service plan by the main dealer £570 for 2 years which will cover a 40k & 50k service. Is this worth it or am I better of going to a local garage in edgware north London & which one.

    Cheers
