  1. This is a great post, a good diversion into fantasyland. Now where is the lotto form? The IS-F is a work of art. Will it come to Britain, I wonder and if so, will Brown tax it off the road? This will hound the M3 and M5 to extinction. For poorer mortals, I wish they would stick a 350 into the current IS. Only thing I do not like is the quad exhaust pipes.

  2. Another benefit of LOC - you will learn more about your car here than anywhere else. This can save you a fortune, as many members have more knowledge about Lexi than some of the dealers. If there is something about ur car that u are unsure of, just pop a question here. chances are someone else has been there before you. Good luck.

  3. Congrats on new car. The M/M is great - the phone utility is fantastic, no fiddling with settings. You can also send your phonebook from mobile to the MM system and dial using the touch screen - cool. CD player can play anything (incl MP3). My DVD playback not working, but I picked up the possible reason why on this board and will have it seen to next service. You will have to change your name now from Audi_al!! I notice the road noise too, but I have 19" wheels, which I guess is to blame. Good luck and please post niggles here, as the answers help the rest of us that may come across similar problems.

  4. I notice that the JD Power and similar reliability surveys still use the IS200 as the benchmark for reliability. Lexus has well deserved the No 1 spot for superior reliability with the IS200. My question is, what are drivers' impressions of the IS 250 or 220d? Will it go the distance as did the IS200? I bought the IS250 sport/mm a month ago (second hand) with no probs so far. Coming to the new IS later on than most, I wonder if others who previously drove the IS 200/300 believe that the new IS will be as reliable as the older model. Though happy with the IS250, having had two of the IS200s, I am not certain that the new car is as well built, though I am not certain either that its not, as I have driven less than 1000 miles.

By the way, how do I post a pic of my galloping maggot (its name) onto the site?

  5. The IS250 has a six cylinder V6 petrol engine. The 220D is the only second generation IS that has a four cyclinder diesel engine. My 250 returned circa 40 mpg @75 mph compared to your E46 330i's 30 mpg @ 80 mph :whistling:

My IS250 SE-L was one year old last Saturday. It has about 7,500 on the clock, most of which has been local, urban and rural motoring. The overall average for that year, based upon actual written records of all petrol in and all miles done, is pretty much precisely 30 m.p.g.

On the occasional long motorway journey with cruise set at 70 m.p.h I get indicated tank averages of up to 44 m.p.g. but the computer is always optimistic and the real figures based upon petrol in and miles done were more like 39 m.p.g. Still pretty good IMHO.

Please forgive a stupid question, but where on the IS250 can I find the MPG figure? (model is250 sport multimedia). On a mix of urban/mway driving I am estimating 30mgp average but that's a crude guess based on filling the tank/remembering the mileage!

  6. Thanks for advice guys. I bought it for the asking price from a dealer who benefitted from handing it over with a half tank of fuel, no discount etc....!

It looks/drives well, except it does not feel like a car that has had its 40k service, and the DVD playback does not work.

(when in neutral with parking brake up).

Is it me, or did the old is200 feel more powerful?

    thanks

  7. Aaaaagh!!!!

I am watching the launch of the new IS live on the internet.

The front looks too much like the Volvo S40.

The kink on the rear passenger door side-window looks awful. It is clear the designer wants the car to look like the new BMW-3 series from the side, but sorry, BMW do a better job, design wise.

The rear end is slightly better.

In the end, why does Lexus do this? Lexus does not need to shadow the design of its competitors. The quality and reliability are legendary, but as an avid IS supporter, my first reaction is one of disappointment.

In going for a low slung front to give the impression of a powerful stance from a distance, Lexus designers have left far too much metalwork between the rear wheelarch and bottom of the rear passenger window. A hint of the new Mercedes 4 door coupe which is based on the E-class.

Overall, a disappointment. If BMW get their act together and learn how to build a reliable car, the Lexus IS will be wiped out by the new BMW3.

    Pity

  8. I bought my IS200 in Ireland (2000) and for the past 3 years I have used it in Bosnia. In summer 2003 the highest temperature on the in-car thermometer showed 47c and two weeks ago, it hit the lowest at -21c. For several weeks we have had heave snow and routine -5c to -20c temps. Yet, as the mercedes, VW and other German cars parked around me failed to start or operate, the lexus has not even had a puncture. It started every time. The roads are poor here, single lane, fast and slow, mountainous, often broken and poorly surfaced. Its the only lexus in Bosnia, and locals think its a supercar because its indestructability.

Question is, what next? The new GS looks OK, not great, but is it likely to be as reliable? Why has Lexus Austria website had pics of the new GS and specs for months, and Lexus UK only for a few weeks?

Finally, which do you think is better? 20K for a new IS or the same money for a 4 year old LS?
