  1. thanks again guys (if I had a pound for every time the members have helped me on here) :D

Rest assured its all sorted, as they are way too short, so im not losing out in anyway.

But the other thing is can it be confirmed that the MK1 GS 300 is chrome under the black plastic before I attempt it, as I would hate to damage the grill as I have spent loads of time making the car look nice.

  2. Hi all, ive just been getting over a bug if anyone has missed me !

Anyway to cheer myself up I ordered a chrome grill convertion kit off eBay , but :crybaby: the lenghts of chrome I have for the slats either side of the Lexus badge are way to short, they are 138mm , my grill is 150mm.

Could anyone help me on this please , if they have had a kit could they measure the chrome strips for the longest slats. I tried to put mine on and it looks awful, though if I put them on the end slats they do look smart. I have emailed the place I bought them, but just wanted some more help if needed. I did check the delivery sheet as well and it is for my GS 300 94 so that bit is right. hope you can help :) i'm having a relapse now

  3. :) im going to order my grill tomorrow! at last, I got a little sidestepped because I bought a Lexus tax disc holder (its worth paying the money just to use it :P )

I have to say in all my years of motoring I have never had to much hassle pulling off the cheap and nasty holder in this car. It looked really tacky and I think must have popped my arm joint out  . I thought the rear sticker was a pain, but this thing was about a foot long by the time it came away from the screen.

The car is looking really smart now , ill take some more pictures as well, so when I pay my membership I'll post them.

Is a shiny alloy holder classed as a mod?:driving:

  4. UKPulse :D after reading your post it made my eyes light up  ,i'll tell you for why. When I had my old Merc (94 model) I phoned up mercedes for the info on fuel economy and price for parts etc, mainly because I am not that rich, so thought it would be wise just to get some general info on how much things cost to replace. The answer I was given was and I quote " because of the age of the car (as it is quite old sir) we do not keep any of the information on our computers, so I can not really help you sorry good bye" but before this I had to get past a stuck up old cow(sorry. if that bit gets cut here is a clue mooooooo!) who wouldnt even give me the time of day. it still gets me mad now  call me old fashioned but a little respect can go a long way

now on to the Lexus , and to be honest it was also the attitude of the dealership and the members on here that helped me make my mind up.

When I was thinking of getting the Lexus I phoned up the dealership in cambridge on help and prices, They couldnt do enough for me , and the lady I spoke to said, what age is your car sir that you are buying , I said 94 (expecting a lot of sniggering in the background but none came! :D ) she said to me would you like a brochure for it, I think we have one left in the archive. After a small wait she came back on the phone and said she had got a brochure and would post it to me, as it would be a nice thing to have with the car. Also if I ever need any advice just ring and they would see what they could do. So with the friendly welcome and help I got on here and the help from Lexus it swung it for me.

  5. hi, well its nearly time to start on my alloys :) , and I have a question :D . Ive read the car care section on scratches etc, but I have what can only be described as bubbles along the edge in a few areas. I think its corrosion, but what do I use to tackle them , would it be an abrasive wet and dry or a tiny file just to rub them down first . though i'm pretty handy renovating paint work, Im not sure what to use on these "bubbles". I think i would prefer to use a small file but I do need help on this. I have the paint already. picking up the rest tomorrow.

because the wheels have the problems spaced out Im going to spray the whole of the rims after I have done the prep on them, it will be easier for me .

Im just amazed at what a cracking car it , it has a lovely deep shine to it now, ive polished it four times now :D , in fact I just enjoy polishing it

  6. Thanks guys :D , hope you all had a nice bank holiday as well. I think a chrome grill does set the car off. though I wasnt sure about the bonnet badge (which is all now forgotten) I feel its a must on the chrome grill, so I have two mods to get so far

The headlight lids and the grill :)

Also over the weekend I stripped out the boot and found a new boot light bulb, and every stud that was missig but one :D.

Dare I say the the quality of the build on the things you dont usualy see are a lot better than the Merc, I thought so anyway. even the paint is a better quality.

Anyway when I get paid , ill sort out the membership and post the pictures on here for you.

  7. :D I saw on eBay a kit to make the grill of the GS chrome. For myself I thought the picture of it finished did look smart and sets the car off . The One on my car though in great condition cannot hide the fact that its been in the elements for 10 years . and the plastic looks a bit jaded. I know you can get things to spray or rub on, but its only temporary. So I thought maybe putting a chrome kit on it would be the answer. or shall I remove it rub it down and spray it the charcoal/black colour.

I have to admit I am very tempted to buy the kit though :)

let me know what you think :driving:

  8. Thanks Matthew! :D I missed that bit :duh: , that has really helped me out.

I'm going to do them next week , as im off for a week. I dont know what my neighbours will say when I start on the wheels  . Ever since I got the car I keep getting the odd comment when I wash it etc, some are a bit jealous, but I cant understand why its only something ive worked hard for and its older than the cars they have . Have to say though it really is looking the business, just needed a bit of TLC on the paint work.

Im going to wax it again Saturday

  9. Hi all :D, my GS came with a really nice set of allloy wheels. but around the edge on two (its only minor) they have a scuff on the edge. I have bought an exact colour match in spray but need a little advice again :)

If I put a finger smear of plastic body filler over the scuffs, and rub it down and just blow over the small area with the spray, could the effect of the plastic effect the wheel balance?

The reason I ask is I had a full set of brand new tyres fitted, and balanced. Ive never had alloys before so wasnt sure if doing this could knock the balance out. Apart from the minor problem on the edges the wheels are in excellent condition. if its a bad idea I wont do it.

  10. Well its all sorted, and no sticker  . I really cant fault them. Took the car in told to stick it on the ramp and it was done, no waiting or anything.

I spotted a couple of minor scratches when I got home on the bonnet, Just old ones that I had missed out, so thought I would deal with them. If I had a pound for everytime someone says "oh polishing it again I'll be rich :) " If I let a car get dirty I get remarks if I polish it I get remarks dont these saddos have nothing better to do than watch me all the time :)

It must be the Lexus I think :winky:

  11. Hi all, well I have to take my Gs to the garage wednesday (no charge for it). Its had all new rear brakes fitted, but for some reason over the last two days when I pulled on the park lever the brake light wouldnt go out on the dash , well not unless I pulled it in and out. But also today I stopped the car on a slope, pushed the park brake with my foot , but the car moved a little. Strange I thought, so I moved the gear into neutral .. and the car rolled forward. I phoned the garage today and they said to bring it down and they would do it while I wait. Ive never had this problem before so its a new experience for me. :D

    what can cause this?
